What this defeat means !

This Srilankan victory who in the other hand did not complain about back to back matches like India did and many more victories for class teams playing against India in their true form in future will be always a big slap on Indian players anyways. For Indian players It's the result of an over hyped phenomenon.A few bunch of players who had played in flat pitches against meek or out of form teams or bowling attack suddenly become super stars, thats it.And all of a sudden if an opposition rises to their true form suddenly you can see the true colors of our over rated players.A true player or a genuine talent can be determined only in the long run after playing class teams and class bowling attacks or troubling class batsmen all over the world, in the long run in places like australia, windies or south africa not by the sponsor deal he makes, the ad he does the sun glasses he wears or the surname he has.We are here to play cricket, not to make bollywood movies. We need to go out and look for to find a genuine spinner like Mendis or Muralitharan, not winding up the same masala in Harbhajan and Kumble who is aged now and world beating class batsmen like young Laxman or Azharuddin or world record making Tendulkar and diving fielders.Dhoni has still a long way to go , he can't become like Ganguly or what ever overnight. Anyways it seems we are short of players who are genuine talent and can sustain in the long run. That will happen only if we radically transform from where we are,the

radically transform from where we are,the BCCI, the money and the sponsors, In setting up world class pitches and stadiums, training facilities or infrastructure and players with true physique, class and spirits no matter where, but from all parts of India.

Result: Sri Lanka won by 25 runs

'We cannot lose so many finals' - Ganguly

The first step to solving a problem is often to admit that it's there in the first place. And Sourav Ganguly did that after the Asia Cup final when he admitted that India's performances in grand finals bordered on the unacceptable. "I don't know what it is, but we're not doing something right," he said. "We cannot lose so many finals."

For Ganguly, it was a ninth loss - against a solitary win - in 13 finals under his stewardship, and he accepted that falling short yet again was a devastating blow.

Dhoni should respect seniors
by Nitesh jain on Jul 07, 2008 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

I think this is big slap on the face of MSD, who has always kept on barging on senior players like ganguly, tendulkar who were performing well and kept out Viru purposefully against australia in finals.

I really believe that team should be selected on the basis of performance and there are enough example of the same like Jayasuriya, hussey, hayden, misbah ul haq, kallis, styris, chanderpaul etc. who are still serving their country.

Further,Dhoni should learn to respect senior palyers who have given their life to serve the country, otherwise he will have to pay for his arrogance.
I can bet that Raina,Uttapha will get out in 7 out of 10 balls on moving track and dhoni does not stop praising them ridiculous.

Ajantha Mendis is not an ordinary bowler. Right now very few people know how to play him. Even our seniors would have fallen flat against him.

You are right. Slowly players around the world will know how to play him. Even bowlers like Irfan Pathan used to be nightmares for opposing batsmen. But today he is a nightmare for his own captain.

You day dreamers. Go check records of all our seniors in any final. It is pathetic. They have lost more finals than these juniors. Stop praising the useless senior chokers.

You seems to be jumping in the air without any logic or data behind it.
We have lost most of the final because we never had decent bowling attack who could restrict opposition be it 2003 WC final.Pls check the records you will find the answers yourself

You are right , the performance of some of our STAR YOUNGSTERS like Yuvraj, Rohit and Robin are not even worth mentioning. Yuvi is more of a burden , in the 6~7 years of his experience he is not even capable of cementing his place in the test team. He plays one good inning that ensures his place for next ten matches. I am not against seniors or youngsters , performnace should be the criteria come what may. But I definitely do not appreciate MSD rediculing the seniors, guess he has forgotten that he is also 27 and has a max of 3~4 years left in him.

Treat Ajantha Mendis like a seamer
by mar gaya on Jul 07, 2008 07:16 PM  | Hide replies

Mendis is not a spinner, he is more of a seamer. Our batsmen were clueless because they treated him to be like a spinner. It is difficult to predict seam movement. I think, eventually, our batsmen will find a way of dealing with him.

Ganguly or Dhoni. Indians lose the final.
by Cool Guy on Jul 07, 2008 06:44 PM  | Hide replies

No matter who our captain is! Ganguly or Dhoni! India always loses the final. All our great players falter in the final time & again. Our record since 1999 proves this.
Finals played: 22
Won: 2
Lost: 18
Draw: 2
And still we claim that we are catching up with the Aussies. Bull Shit!!!

Had India won all of us would have wanted to be a part of the sucess by celebrating but a loss by the team brings out extreme cribbing .Puhleez grow up.It is just a game .You win some you loose some that it.Moreover this team India is still "work in Progress" as someone in the media said yesterday. So please cut some slack.

accept we are not good enough
by deepak on Jul 07, 2008 06:28 PM  | Hide replies

we should accept that we do not have enough great players to win regularly. india have only produced 3 great players(sachin, dravid, kumble) and one great one day player in gangu in last 20 years or so.

a lot of people categrize yuvraj as a great player. the player who has not even cemented his place in test team, the player who has not even won a single odi for his team in last 2 years. marketing comapnies coupled with media is making average players like dhoni and yuvraj great players. a lot of money is riding on these young players. media is being used to make them god. remember when yuvraj failed miserablely in austrailia, he was kept in news by deepika matter. in ipl aussies proved they are the best. seven indians with great sides could not beat single 40 year old aussy with some very young players.

in australia we won because of sachin. we lost the one day series in india agais australia. we could beat a very weak pakistani team in india with great difficulty. we had to prepare a dusty pitch to draw the series agains south africa. we lost the kitply cup. we have lost the asia cup. and still these morons are paid 6-7 crore per month.

Hi Deepak,
u r 100% correct. Dhoni thinks that he can win matches without experience players. It is purely hight of T20 hangover. Luck never be always his side. If we analyise properly the defeat of asia cup is due to
01. After winning the toss, elected to field (no fool on the earth will take a hasty decision like MSD)
02. Absence of wall and master blaster (pakistan pitches are perfectly designed to wall)
03.Droping of Jaysuriya's catch by RPS (that too in finals and very crucial wicket)
04.Sehwag's irresponsible out and Gambhir should carry over atleast till 25 overs
05.on what grounds the idiot uttappa has been taken in the finals?

Hello Dhoni... now you have realised and bend your head in front of wall and master blaster. Pl.do not think u can win with in experience players like yuvaraj, pathan (both useless brohters), uttappa etc.,

Cool guy, give me the stats on YOUNGSTERS ?? Ok Seniors were no good , are youngsters better. I still remember two finals Australiasia Cup in 1996 and VB Series in 2008. In Semi and Final Sachin scored , India won. Can you give me a good example of a youngster ( except the Natwest Trophy in England)??
