Adam Gilchrist

He is a professional cricketer who believed in honesty. That is why whenever he knew he had been out, he walked without waiting for umpires decision. I wish him all the best in his life.

Gilly - Professional Cricketer with a Unprofessional team
by Dhananjaya R on Jan 29, 2008 03:55 PM

There might be a strong chance that Gilly might have retired due to Sydney incident as he is well aware that was the match which India should have won if the umpires haven't showed mercy on them. He himself might have felt ashamed of that incident. He was the person who use to go even before umpire declares him out if he knows that he is out. A professional cricketer but with a unprofessional team

Lessons for Indians !!!
by Srinivas on Jan 29, 2008 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

A simple catch dropped and Gilly decided it's time to call it quits !!!! I hope Indian players will take a leaf out of Gilly's retirement.
Senior cricketers especially who have played 8 to 10 years of cricket must follow suit. Why is souvrav is angry for being dropped? How's his fitness ? he has missed countless catches and still wants to stick to the team without any shame !!!

Even Sachin missed catches..do you think that is a criterion to drop a senior player from the team.If you are a good captain u shd field avg fielders in not so crucial positions...I Dhoni feels ganguly is an avg fielder and hence shd be dropped and if kumble thinks in the same way for the next test series as to Dhoni is a poor test sorer and a complete failure is it ok to drop him too?Ur reasoning going for a toss...

Real Reason why Gilly QUIT
by anant Sagar on Jan 29, 2008 05:07 AM  | Hide replies

I think its not the missed catch that changed his mind but the money involved in playing IPL. For an Australians players, the money IPL is offering for 6 weeks is equal to their 2 years income. Its hard to miss such an opportunity when you are nearing the end of your career. I think if IPL offer was not there, he would have waited for some more time.

Wrong friend. Gilly, Ponting and others are on about $1.5 - $2 million a year from the ACB. This does not take into account endorsements and other corporate earnings. The IPL will be good easy money but will not improve the Aussie cricketers financial fortunes all that much. Gilly owns property in and around Perth worth about $10 million (thats what we know about - most people of his ilk have companies or trusts to hold assets). The IPL money will he handy (fuel for the boat) but won't increase his subtantial wealth much.

Bollocks. Senior Australian cricketers get paid up to $2 million from the ACB annually (including bonuses for winning which is common). Add in endorsements and corporate stuff and some would be approaching annual income of $5 million. The IPL money is great for a couple weeks work playing the hit and giggle 20/20 with no consequences for losing but won't make much impact to the overwealth of the likes of Gilly, Hayden, Ponting etc
