gilchrist the trend setter
by . on Jan 27, 2008 11:21 PM  | Hide replies

he changed the definition of a wkt-keeper. he was thus a trend-setter in itself.
earlier, keepers were only required to give support to the main batsman like in the days of kirmani, more, etc. but after the emergence of gilchrist, it became clear that a keeper has to bat as well as (if not better than) other regular batsman.
but gilchrist didnt compromise on his keeping inspite being one of the best batsman.

Gilly- 4 short of 100
by Jomesh George on Jan 27, 2008 09:12 AM  | Hide replies

Gilchrist had to complete his 100 tests. He was just 4 short of it.But creating a world record in his last test is something amazing. Now my prayer is that he could do something superb with the bat too as this match is heading towards a boring draw his fireworks can do some excitement on it.He is the holder of many records in test cricket. Most dismissals by a keeper,2nd fastest century,2nd fastest double century, first one to complete 100 sixes and highest strike rate ever.Hats off to Gilly a rare gentleman in Australian Cricket.

Sad to see a great cricketing Hero saying Good Bye
by gagandeep gill on Jan 27, 2008 07:14 AM

Indeed, Adam Gilchrist was one of the great wicketkeeper Batsman in the world of Cricket who can demolish any bowling attack on his day. A treat to watch while batting and better than the regular pinch hitters like Shahid Afridi. Known for his aggression early in the innings, had set the foundation for most of wins of Australia. Want to wish a good luck for his personal life.

ausi innings analysis.
by . on Jan 26, 2008 11:48 PM

ausi innings analysis throughout the last decade. first 5 batsman scores say 200 runs but the last 5 batsman also scores around 200 runs.
this was the winning formula for ausi n gilchrist was the major contributor to take the tail with him.

the most lovable player among the ausi
by . on Jan 26, 2008 11:22 PM  | Hide replies

gilchrist. even his rivals n fans in ind hv respect for him. the exceptional gentleman among the ugly sledgers. his battng was a delight to watch. he used to shoulder all the responsibility to extend the ausi score even when he came in to bat at no. 7 n used to play innings with the help of no. 8, 9 and 10 batsman. great batsman n keeper.

it may lead to downslide for the ausi in future. during 2005 ashes loss by ausi, sourav commented that eng were lucky to win the series coz gilly was nt in good form.

Gilchrist was no gentleman, he was also a sledger, his so called Walks were timed to perfection & also dont forget he used a squash ball in his glove during the WC2007 final, still cant figure out how that was allowed!

Dude, come what may, Gilchrist was a magnificent player who entertained all. He's also one of the few Australians to have played without any controversies surrounding him. And above all, look at his records... superb. To call him 'no gentleman" is to make a fool of yourself.

To all Sachin Tendulkar Fans Trying To Justify His Greatness
by Joy Das on Jan 26, 2008 11:20 PM  | Hide replies

Any sensible person, with sum basic knowledge of Cricket acknowledges the fact that Sachin Tendulkar is a legend, the God of cricket, and it is a priviledge to watch him bat. And that is the reason why in the current Ind-Aus Series, in every match in every stadium, everytime he went to bat or was out, the entire stadium gave him a Standing Ovation. It is sad that there are bunch of losers in India only who instead of feeling proud of Sachin Tendulkar's achievement, try to criticise him with senseless arguments. It is a different matter that they themselves have never achieved anything in life or even walked inside a Cricket Stadium with a bat in hand, but still, donot hesitate to criticise a legend. But, again, not their fault. They are Fools. So, no point in trying to justify to them with facts and figures. U can't win, because they will first drag u down to their own standards, and then beat u with experience. Guess that's why it is never adviced to wrestle with a pig in the mud. U will just dirty ur cloths, whereas the Pig will actually enjoy it.

okie even if i reluctantly agree to u all that sachin hasnt performed under pressure

but again
opening innings in ODI...good start...n dissipating pressure from the outset.....doesnt that account to countering pressure??? how many times, with his good show top of d order,he has rubbed off any pressure from falling on the lower order

critics seem to b unidirectional in their arguements

even in this ongoing adelaide test, 156-4 was a bad situation on a batting paradise....he saved india from blushes...else by 4th day itself india might have gone down to innings defeat...perhaps

Thats is what I dont understand.. The best Indian Test player is Kumble. Dravid and LAxman has played better Test Cricket than Sachin, they have played more crcucial situtation.. When compared him in World Crciket there are better crciketers like LARA, Gilly, Hyden, Kallis, Pollock, Warne, Flintoff etc...To me he is just a hype.
I have seen ppl praise him, but he never plays crcucial inninhs. 11 ppl win matches, noot 1 person, but there were grts like Gilly, Lara, who were able to win matches. Example: Gillys 143 in the last inning Against Pak chasing 361. Laras 152 Vs Aus, he had played witjh 11th batsmen(Walsh) to win that match.
Can you Please tell me one such innings of Sachin, I would be really happy. Even in case of Dravid and Laxman, they have played such grt innings... I never seen Sachin ever play Crucial innings.

He has played Crciket for 20 Yrs, dont say when her played others failed, there should be atleast one instance.

Please go and refresh your memory. How may games did Lara win? About Flintoff, you must be joking. Except the Ashes in 2005, what did he do recently? If someone is able to perform consistently for 17 years then it means something. Lots of players have performed for 1 or 2 years but then they fade out. REgards Lara, check the records - out of 34 hundreds, only a handful were at time needed. even when he scored 400, the team did not win because he prolonged the innings to get to 400 which resulted in lot of time being used up. Dont criticize just for the sake of doing so. It is one thing that you may hate Sachin but dont bring your personal likes/dislikes here.

I don't think Lara prolonged the innings for his personal record.England followed on in that test but able to sustain in the 2nd innings in a pitch that didn't change even on 5th day.He was able to score with a strike rate better than 70 and didn't waste too many balls to reach the milestone. But I belive in place of Lara if Sachin was there the victory would be away in the match Lara made 153 and led WI to victory against Australia. He was running without partners throughout the innings and finally in co.of Walsh he scored the winning runs and what an amazing performance it was.I will rate it as the best ever performance in the history of test cricket,

Yes he did, in fact when England got away with the game there was a big debate on why the declaration by WI came so late in the 1st innings. But coming to the point of Lara, yes he did play a few innings that resulted in win but so did Sachin. They are different players and you just cannot compare them. Many times Sachin played a lone hand and many people dont realize that scoring runs when the team is 3 or 4 down with not much on the board is also playing under pressure. As a 19 year old Sachin scored a match saving 119 in Manchester on a seaming wicket when India were 68 for 4 in 2nd innings and took the score to 300 on the last day. If that is not playing then what is it? There are many more instances where he played a lone hand. If anyone has watched him score 169 on a bouncy wicket in SA when India were 4 down for less than 100, then they would not be making such ridiculous statements about Sachin.

absolutely 100% agree with Srini, sachin never played crucial chase.
u see all his 100s will be always 1st innings. and 2nd innings 100s also never be in chasing.

Makes me laugh out real loud..... :D

His hundreds in the first innings mean a lot to the bowlers in the two innings that they bowl, and second innings hundreds while chasing? C'mon!!! Rarely does India get a fourth innings target that they WANT to chase. This is ridiculous!! Why do you want to be so specific?

Tailenders might score 30-40 runs while chasing and their performance is praised. But why do you forget that if Sachin had not given his contribution earlier, the tail enders just would not even think about chasing. Whatever runs Sachin scores are 75% of the time crucial in deciding the morale level of the team - as is with any other member scoring runs not in the fourth innings.

Well I agree with you people, but what is that crucial sisituation?? If you try to analyse it if you have the sense or the knowledge of cricket, that situation occurs only when Sachin is out. So, people go 'n' try to gain some knowledge on ceicket and than post ur msgs, dont simply blog, do it with knowledge of the subject.

Xbox, Scoring in 2nd innings does not mean they are always under pressure? If you think that scoring runs on 1st innings is easier than in 2nd innings then stop watching cricket. Ask any one who has played any cricket that scoring on 1st day when the wicket is seaming is equally difficult.

Srini, u wanted just One Instance? Well, can't give you One.. It will be an Injustice to Sachin Tendulkar and maybe u will think it was just a fluke. So here are just a few of the numerous times Sachin Singlehandedly won matches for India.

Sharjah in 1998, when he scored 134 against Australia in the Final to win the Series for India. Entire Indian Batting Order had collapsed and he batted with Tailenders

Dhaka in 1998, when Sachin Tendulkar's led India to victory over Australia in the 3rd Wills International Cup quarter-final. He scored 141 from 128 balls with 13 4's and 3 6's.

Same Match he followed this up with 4/38 off 9.1 overs to gain his 30th Man of the Match award for his performance.

Hyderabad in 1999, when he scored 186* against New Zealand, in Hyderabad. Of course India Won and he was the Man of the Match.

These were few of the many matches that sachin Tendulkar won singlehanded as a batsman. Now, here is Sachin Tendulkar as a Bowler:

The Hero Cup where his bowling arm won India the semi-final against South Africa. The last over of that match was bowled by Tendulkar. No other bowler was willing to take the risk as South Africa needed six runs to win. Sachin Volunteered to do it. The batsmen at the crease, Brian McMillan could get only three runs and lost the match. India reached final.

In the final, Sachin again, in similar situation, bowled the last over against West Indies and led India to Victory.

Dil Maange More? Can Give Many More
