CV Raman and Sir MV were knighted while India was still under the British Crown- MV (1915) was knighted even before CV Raman (1929).

Tagore, too, was knighted, but he renounced it as a mark of protest against the Jalianwallah Bagh massacre.

Am glad you mentioned Sir MV's name- what a great man he was!

WHAT ?
by Desi Bhai on Jan 22, 2008 08:09 PM

Let alone an Indian trying to serve the queen, why is India still in the commonwealth ?

It will be a slap on the face of billion plus Indians and their ancestors for an Indian passport holder to actually serve the queen of England.

We are speechless. It is very humbling for his fans as it must be for him. To be rewarded with the hightest honor in Britain that too by the exponents of the game is an incredible achievement. But there are still many shores to conquer for this little great man.Simply Superb. Hail Tendulkar!

Sir Sachin Tendulkar(S10)

The debate here is not ,whether sachin should be given
KNIGHTHOOD or not , rather it is , if our country dosent allow to have such a thing or if its against our culture, then we dont want (may be because of queens not ruling some bullshit etc ). but
Sachin deserves all awards no matter what it is
...if it is within our cultural limits ...

You are right vishy. At this juncture; people like Bal Thackeray & everybody else should stand up and ask Sachin not to accept the honor, since the honor reminds us of our colonial past & we being ruled by the Queen. What say?

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar... The one and only who can be called as the gem of India...

He should be given 'Bharat Ratna'...

Sir is not that great idea but if they are planning to give it to Sachin, no big deal!...

Dharti putra Sachin must be called as Bhart Ratna Sachin!

There is Bradman and there is Sachin and then rest of the world
by Arunava Chatterjee on Jan 22, 2008 12:56 PM

Sachin is the best batsman India has ever produced and probably there would none like him anymore. People stand as he comes out to bat out of respect everywhere in the world. Best bowlers in the world have nightmares of sachin smashing them - and thats the best accolade that any batsman can get.

I went to watch the Boxing Day test this year, and believe me there was no other batsman in either team who looked as elegant and comfortable out there. While Australian were using there brute strength and still not reaching the boundary, Sachin was creaming them without much effort.

It is day that I would never forget, his 62 in the first innings was delightful and made me proud of being an Indian. The standing ovation that he got from both Australians and Indians everytime he walked on to the pitch was heartening.

Hats of to you little genius. I wish you could play till you are 45.

Tendulkar is the greatest of this era: Allan Donald
by Ritwik Bhuyan on Jan 22, 2008 10:52 AM

Showering praise on Sachin Tendulkar, former South African pacer and England bowling coach Allan Donald said the Mumbaikar is the best batsman of present era and deserves to become the highest run-getter in Test cricket.
Allan Donald Donald said the veteran Indian willower, who became the third player to accumulate 11,000 Test runs during the second day's play of the second cricket Test against England, was the best in the business and could carry on for a few more years.

"In my era, I think he is the best player I have ever had the pleasure of playing against. He is something special, very freakish, and I think that what he has done for the game and his country has been absolutely phenomenal," Donald said while paying tribute to Tendulkar.

it will be indeed a great honour for Sachin which he richly desrves for the service to the nation. there is no doubt that he is the greatest cricketer India has produced and i think all Indian fans will rejoice when Sachin takes his right place formally with the ranks of Don, Sobers and Richards.
