There is a long way to go.

Ishant Sharma was brilliant. There can be no doubt. What is to be seen , is if he can reproduce this kind of rhythm and accuracy in the coming matches. Remember Pathan in Pakistan ?? he was brilliant, but he hit the lows, came back a stronger man. RP Singh to me was very good, he has stepped up to being the spearhead overnight. All this bodes well for the Indian team in the bowling department. But there are still some questions to be answered in the batting department. Dravid did well to come back to form, but other than Tendulkar and VVS. I have yet to see a fluency in the much vaunted batting. My heart beats for India, but i am guarded. Anil is leading his men well I hope they deliver in the next match, this could be launch that India needs to go to the next level.

Time to have confidence in youngsters.
by Calspadeaspade on Jan 21, 2008 02:57 AM

Ishanth's performanace has shown the grit and talent of young Indians. Time to give chance to players like Badri and Raina before they get too old. We should bench Jaffer, Kartik and Yuvi and consider Badri. Raina and I heard there are a few more in Ishanth's age group.

Unlike the Sydney Test, Aussies played with only 11 members in Parth Test. Thats how and why they lost.

Ishant Sharma's spell was mesmerising
by ravi joshi on Jan 20, 2008 12:13 PM

I think Ishant sharma's spell in the morning was the highlight of the entire test match, it opened the floodgates for india when he got rid of ponting with that impeccable delivery, i have never seen an indian fast bowler dominating the opposition batsmen for a very long time, Ishant is a great find for india this shows that even we can produce good fast bowlers provided we have good pitches, Ishant was outstanding considering that he is 19 years old and on his first tour down under..congratulations to team india for a deserving win..

great win !!!
by Jimmy Thomas on Jan 20, 2008 09:55 AM  | Hide replies

hey guys, I know everybody is over the moon by india's win, especially coming at perth, which is considered the fastest pitch in the world..although in this case it was not that pacy or bouncy. still it had some bounce and something in it for the bowlers all the same. and the indian bowlers clearly bowled with more swing, and that was the difference. but i thought saurav's performance was very poor. I am not saying abt his batting, because that can happen, because he is playing attacking shots always, but his fielding was very poor. its not like he is 50 yrs old, look at hogg,he is 36 and still so quick and active. I think saurav should be told to quicken up, which is I am sure possible. did you see sachin running after a ball, like a teenager? I think jaffer has to go, so many chances wasted. I think we have to get harbhajan in, so that we can have 5 bowlers. i think bhajji can bat reasonably well. and finally, the aussies were gracious in defeat and we should appreciate that. it would have hurt them bad,but ponting was very gracious and said, india played better and won. so we should now stop australia bashing and behave like good cricket lovers, not just being blindly patriotic. my only regret is that, if the sydney test had been a draw, the score would have been 1-1, and a great final test in prospect. wht a pity, and here I wish bucknor and benson spoiled everything. I tell you wht..the biggest problem facing cricket right now is the standard of umpiring. technology please...

Australia v India is the Test rivalry of the decade. England popped up spectacularly in 2005 but only India have been able to match, fight and beat Australia over a sustained period.
In the last 10 years, the teams have met 21 times in Test cricket; the numbers now stand at 10-8 in Australia's favour. In the corresponding period Australia's record stands at 27-9 against England, 12-2 against Pakistan, 15-4 against South Africa and 9-1 against Sri Lanka. And India were the last team to humble Australia in a home Test.

I dont understand the need of saying "typical northie brainless". There are many peoples who could start a North-South fight on this. I have just got to say one thing, come out of the mindset of belonging to a particular region, religion or caste or anyother division.

It is hightime that people instead of creating divisions think of larger picture otherwise people like you will languish behind in every sphere of life.

But still I know instead of improving and removing this ill you would find glory in bashing everybody who is different than your division of region religion caste etc...

Shame on your kind of people who derive immense pleasure in boasting about their division and bashing others. If you want to be called great than let other people say it and dont be a parrot who sings praises for himself.

Who was Ricky Ponting Missing at Perth?
by jithendra pydimarri on Jan 20, 2008 08:47 AM  | Hide replies

Was it Hayden or Shane Warne or McGrath? He was
missing Steve Bucknor. Everytime an appeal was made by
Aussie Bowlers he was looking for Steve Bucknor to
give them out. Everytime Aussie Batsmen was caught out
or LBW (other than clean bowled) he missed Steve
Bucknor. If he was there surely Aussie would have
scored 500 in 1st innings and result would have been
different.
For sometime on 4th day he looked Steve Bucknor in
Billy Bowden when he turned down some close LBW shouts
by Indian bowlers. But it did not last long.

If Australia tell/consider themselves as true
champions (Which they are not, they got into this
position by umpires favour and cheating) they should
ban the 2nd test and should re-play the 2nd test.
Whole cricketing world including ICC knows it was pure
cheating and Steve Bucknor's idiotic decisions that
made Australia win the 2nd Test Match.

Do Australia have the courage to take this decision?

If you 16 they won, 16th was by cheating and 14th was also we can consider as cheating. Sangakarra was wrongly given out. who knows if he stayed SL would have easily won the match.
remaining 13...also if we dig them out....real things come out....
For sure Aussies wing by cheating with help of umpires and ICC

Firstly congrats to Team india for this faboulus performance. Lot of the team members have stated that this was a great win and a team effort.

I think that it is also time we start playing some mind games with the Ozies now. Maybe a persone like Dhoni or VVS can also comment that there was no sledging during their stay on the wicket.

What this signal's is that AUS may a time they do not show any sportsmanship on teh field. maybe they would be now be determined to win w/out sledging. This might disturb them to some extend and handicap them a bit. I personally feel that the Ozies win 50% of their matches psycologically (sledging).

I hope that someone from the team india side is raeding these blogs.

Lets not get carried away

Congratulations to the Indian team on an outstanding performance against Australia. Indian batsmen showed good grit and bowlers bowled to a plan.
Beyond this we or the media should not get carried away by posting or shouting big headlines like - "Team India has arrived". "We can be the best test team".

We need to look introspectively as a whole the Indian team performance. Granted they were short of match practice for first test and they lost. But seriously there should be no excuses for losing the second test. If Ganguly and Dravid got wrong decisions, the others could have done better. The team combination was in correct until this test because we kept accomodating Yuvraj Singh and he is not a worthy test player outside of India. Look at his performance before in the caribbean for example. We need to start selecting a team based on conditions. Horses for courses. Just like we choose bowlers based on conditions, we should select batsmen as well.
We have to start winning series outside of India on regular basis to be counted as a top team. We still need to beat South Africa, Australia on their home soils. What Australia achieved - 16 straight wins, we can only dream about it yet. They have been consistent and wonderful. We need to acknowledge their performance and feel proud of what we did to stop their juggernaut and take that as a good lesson and stay grounded and perform day in, day out. Performance and team balance should be the criteria for selecting a team.

Out of all teams since 2000, India is just after to Australia to win tests abroad. If that is not regular, then I dont know what is. We have also won at never before places like Pakistan, J'Burg, Sabina Park and now Perth.

Agreed. But if you want to be recognized as undisputedly good team, you have to beat your peers consistently in an away series and win the series, rather than win a test match. Until then I am not going to say our team is on the ascendancy. We won last time in Pakistan under John Wright as coach and Ganguly as captain and suddenly this same team was hailed as a great one. Remember after that their performance went down for some time.
