Future of this team

I know it's strange saying this but the more I watch Dravid's, Sourav's and Sachin's masterly batting and Kumble's ingenious bowling the worse I feel cos these guys are going to retire very soon.
So, an interesting question: Will the players who replace these guys be of the same quality? I'd love to say yes, but I'm not so sure. I have no doubt about the ability of the next generation like Dhoni, Yuvraj, Irfan etc...but I have doubts about them in terms of the quality of men they are. So that means honesty, integrity, principles, all those things. Lasting 10 years as an Indian cricket takes something special not only on the field but also off the field in terms of being articulate & well spoken, handling the media, not letting fame get to your head and keeping your feet on the ground and rising above all the politics around you and trying very hard to make a difference. There's no doubt some of our youngsters may go on to emulate Sachin, Dravid, Kumble as players but I can't see them ever emulating those three as human beings. So I have doubts whether India will be a good TEAM in future. Even Sourav for all his chest thumping and showmanship is a fantastic human being underneath which allowed him to be such a great captain for many years.
What do u think?

this is indeed a good observation...we can just hope that the new folks don't get carried away by the fame.

I second that too Supratik.

(Hmm longtime again since I read some interesting comments; Guess in 10 minutes and it will be lost forever in a deluge of politicking, ego clashes, backbiting and pure unadulterated nonsense :-)

Dravid played outstanding.. i feel bad for him that he missed his century

but someone plzx put some mind in dhoni... he cant play at all.. he should rather just play his natural game.. blasting waala... worst case would be he gets out quickly... thats what he is doing at the moment too

He is worried as because he has lost Deepika Padukone to (back-stabber ??) Yuvaraj Singh. On the other hand Yuvaraj Singh is not playing well because he is over exited for getting her.

Dravid, the only player who has given his best even in the worst of forms should have been awarded the Khelratna but for the interference by politicians from Bengal is the best sportsman Ambassador of India. Infact he was the only one who was visibly not out but kept quiet unlike others who have been warned record number of times by ICC and getting into the team thru backdoors.

You are 101% right...
We all know what kind of effort Ganguly put when he was out of the team.He visited BCCI president and officials many time, and gone against Dalmiya to impress the BCCI.

Even Tendulkar started when they couldnt do any thing in the last world cup.

But Dravd never talked , coz he know he only have to answer with the bat in the middle , whenever he get a chance...

He is really very good ambassador of the game he deserves everything whatever a sports man deserves in the glob

Dravid still out of sorts
by Muralidhar Rao on Jan 17, 2008 05:45 AM  | Hide replies

Dravid was lucky to score 93. He was dropped early on and survived several could be edges and then got a reprieve from Billy. Dravid has still not regained his old form. But Dravid tried his best to stay and score. Full marks to him. Maybe the pitch is difficult to score runs. That could be the reason the way Dravid got out. It is not correct to expect the top 4 to score runs all the time. We will know more on the second day how the pitch behaves. At the moment OZ's are on top as usual.

glad to know that tendulker has scored all his centuries without a single missed catches and favours from the umpires.

Mr.Muralidhar, in most of the cases when a batsman get a century there may be couple of missed chances and some luck in that

Hepocrates
by joe joey moraes on Jan 17, 2008 12:36 AM

Ponting is a hepocrate, he is over-confident, that's the advantage for the Indian Cricket Team. We play the best cricket, but our players need to deliver when its required the most.
