Indians have lost their dignity in the whole episode
by Vishwanath Krishnamoorthy on Jan 10, 2008 06:30 AM  | Hide replies

It is very sad the players need to dictate their choice of umpire in what was known as gentleman' game. Whatever actually transpired between the players on both sides, clearly there cannot be smoke without fire. Even if bajji has retaliated to a comment from aussie side, it does not justify his speaking. There is a player' dignity and ethical code in any game. Aussie' have been known for flouting this but now indian' are joining them.
Shortsightedly, entire country is ignoring the poor performance in these tests by India and getting affected by the emotions brewed.
ICC = BCCI = money power. The crass commercialisation of teh game in teh past decade has led to the game' grace falling. Remember BCCI spat with players over league in India and countering with their own version of money politics. Steeve should quit with grace and umpires should be respected. Human errors happen, sometime more oftenmaybe but it will be unfair to say that not once India benefitted from any poor decision from any umpire. IF tomorrow some team objects to poor decsion by Venkatraghavan how will BCCI react.
Games to be played with respect and spirit. Rooting for India and cheering is another aspect but turning a blind eye selectively and pardoning bajji speak in the light of comments and umpriting "human" errors has put BCCI and Indian in poor light. Clearly money politics has ruined the game. Do not know what makes a seasoned politician with vast interests in sugar business sudden liking for crick

as bucknor is unable to decide or make correct decisions only, he is sacked. all cricket lovers around the world would love to see cricket at its best and least would like to see umpires committing mistakes..........

Bucknor knew clearly what was correct when he raised forefinger, because even Speed said he is in top shape and one of great umpires. His all biased judgements were deliberate. Looks like he is getting away clean.

either that or he is merely incompetent...it has to be one or the other. Otherwise his decisions won't make any sense.
Eitherway he should be sacket

Speed (ICC) stated that Bucknor is a great umpire, one of elite with ICC, himself decided to sit down for 3rd test. 'Bucknor scaked' is just made up garbage. He is not sacked.

Because he saw replays, confirmed it was wrong and still did not reverse his decisions. What else? It would be stupid to expect Australians would lobby for India, when Kumble kept quiet. Series of mistakes in captain replacements.

Ethics is different
by summer on Jan 09, 2008 09:40 PM

when two sides compete in sports. Performance is manipulated using talent, assault, fair and foul means (if you can get away).

Soon after replay, a loud yell on Bucknor followed by withdrawl of players would have reversed the wrong decision. Kumble can not do it because he is very passive and can not function well in crisis.

peter lalor writes in the australian
by ganguly dada on Jan 09, 2008 09:38 PM  | Hide replies

lalor writes that indians are hypocrites because dhoni had claimed a low catch of kevin peterson in the england series which appeared to have bounced in the tv replays.on that instance the umpires had consulted the third umpire and peterson was given not out because the replays were inconclusive.he even goes so far as to suggest that the indians are cheats and that they are hypocrites by questioning the australian spirit.but, what he does not say is that even in that series the indians were at the receiving end of wrong decisions.more decisions went against india than in their favour.he also says that bucknor had done india a favour by giving rp singh not out in the first test, because of which india was able to save the match.that fact is true, but no one can deny that bucknor has given more bad decisions against india than in their favour.so, the question arises,is there some other force(bookies etc) behind bucknors bad decisions.it could well be.whatever the reason.it is time for bucknor to retire.also, technology should increasingly be used in cricket to clear all doubts.

ICC has done right
by ansari shoaib on Jan 09, 2008 07:08 PM

One should fully agree with the decision ICC has taken to replace Bucknor. His umpiring was not satisfying for one of the teams, then how could they manage to play with him.

The Venus can be changed..........
The Players can be banned.........
Even the teams can be pnalized.....
Why cant UMPIRES??????????????

WHY NOT MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE
by Jayant Dutta on Jan 09, 2008 04:38 PM

Win and Loss is part of the game but when bad decisions are repeated, it is better to rest the umpire then to tag all errors as humane. Clive should not raise the issue because Steve Bucknor is West Indian but that he has earred repeatedly and is making errors which are grave and against the spirit of justice. Steve must sit down and work to overcome the poor umpiring and earn back the respect of the players.
At the same time India should do self apprisal of themselves and try to be more consistent and not falter even if few decisions go against them. We lost the match, not for the two poor dismisals but because as a team we failed to apply ourselves and was unable to defend two sessions of play.

two sides of the coin
by ralph nader on Jan 09, 2008 04:18 PM

one agrees another disagrees everyone has own opinions likes--dislikes--so we need not worry--we wanted Bucknor out and so was done. However no more excuses for losing or not lasting 72 overs.
