Cricket, as the Australians would have us play it
by S Chandra on Jan 11, 2008 11:38 AM

This is how the Aussies want cricket to be played. You know hard and fair.

An example (Harbhajan walks out to bat) -

Ponting : Welcome to the crease you descendant of a truck driver. How's your mother and my kids ?

Bhajji : What ?? Is this the way you people talk to visitors to your country ?

Ponting : Yes, its called the hard but fair way of playing cricket, you c**nt.

Bhajji : Well, Im going to report this to the match refree.

Ponting : Dont bother, we already bought him. Btw, Im going to kill your family tonight.

Bhajji : This is an outrage.

Ponting : Yes, but as you can see, I havent made any racist comment so far, u illegitimate descendant of a toilet sweeper.

Bhajji : This is too much, get lost u monkey !

Ponting : Waaaaah !How dare you call me a monkey ?? Im going to run to the match refree now.

Bhajji : What ! What about all the things u just called me ?

Ponting : You cant blame us for that, we are Australians u see. Its in our culture to call people abusive names u c. We cant help it.

And since I cant face your bowling, Im allowed to make up false charges to have u removed from the series.

Thats our definition of playing cricket the "hard" way. We have to swear in order to play our cricket. I mean everyone knows in this world that unless you swear like an uneducated sailor you cant play tough cricket. You're in trouble mister for calling me a monkey.

... and the rest is history ..

I've never seen so many whining sooks on a single web page... hilarious

I thought Indians were good sports until i saw this. Bad umpiring happens all the time, it doesn't mean anyone has been bribed or paid off, get used to it, bad decisions go both ways. You need to move on and prove yourself where it counts, on the field.

Whinging, complaining and refusing to play are the signs of bad sportsmanship in my opinion.

If you do lose the next test i hope you lose graciously.

Sydney Test : cricket lost against Pontings men
by on Jan 08, 2008 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

Well during the match, all the umpires (including Ponting as the 4th umpire) were blind. In case if they feel it was some error, they can very well check the replay, which I am sure they would have. Any comments which support their acts after watching the recordings shows their honesty.

Pontings comment shows his "Integrity" and what "being Australian' means.

Obviously you missed the catch Ponting took in the 1st innings which he told the umpire he wasn't 100% on. You should check the replay of that. And while you're there have a look at the decisions that didn't go Australias way, the time wasting tactics, the way the Indian batsmen didn't walk when they were clearly out..

Then when you're done you can make some racial slurs... yep, that's integrity!

Australian Team

Ricky Ponting is the worst ever ambassador a country can ever produce. He has proved it time & again.
1) During an earlier series of India & Australia when India had toured Australia & he was batting, he backlashed at Shrinath, the Indian bowler when he came up to Ponting just to ask about his being fine after being hit by a Shrinath delivery.
2) During the Champions Trophy in India last year, he tried to get the BCCI top man out of his way for his team photo which had caused a lot of furore.
3) Even this time, he did not ensure that fair play was done. He was more keen to have the record in his name & he very well knows that India is a thorn in their flesh & India has got all capabilities to beat this Australian team. He seems to have taken the umpires in his confidence & the ICC should actually probe an inquiry on him & the 2 umpires officiating in the Sydney test & all of them should be suspended till then.
4) The Australian cricket board should take severe action against Ponting, Symonds & Hogg.
5) I am surprised that no other cricketing country in the world has yet not commented on this test.

PONTING 'STATEMENTS
by Dinesh Pai on Jan 08, 2008 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

What extreme is this man Ponting talking about? A comment from Harbhajan about Symonds had lead to a ban of 3 tests for him The refrees verdict is not fair enough The refree should ban Ponting who has not been fair enough in raising his finger to Ganguly who was not out. This is not at all a sportsman spirit from the Australian captain

Unless it can be proven that H Singh made the alleged racial comments, he should be treated as innocent. As he has been charged with being guilty the ICC need to either show the proof they have or remove the charge and let him play.

This incident does not however justify boycotting a tour and i agree that this would be extreme.

Regarding Ponting raising his finger, i believe this was to the umpire asking whether the umpire was giving the batsmen 'out'. After all, it is the umpires decision and if the fielder (Clarke) said he caught it Ponting is entitled to ask the umpire the question.

Was it just judgement?
by nilay shastri on Jan 08, 2008 09:46 AM  | Hide replies

Whether or not Autralian team is rude, umpiring is poor and Ponting is unsporting, I think the key issue is the basis of passing a judgement.

Symonds says Harbhajan abused and Harbhajan denies. So under what princple of justice one agrees to Symonds but disagrees to Harbhajan when there is no other proof, whatsoever?

Aparently the decision is incorrect and the person responsible for making such decisions is not right for the post.

by raj on Jan 08, 2008 09:08 AM  | Hide replies

indians have been hard done by with both benson, procter, bucknor and brad hogg. too many happy coincidences happening in a match. how come steve bucknor is let off for mocking dravid that was caught on tv. how come umpires have no accounatbility , just a negative report which doesnt do anything to them ? the way things are run by icc. its a white stooge. racism at its worst.

Is this an international match or one of those played in the streets of Australia... ?Australian players think what ever dirty games they have on the streets of Australia is the real game, so not a sweat of shame. The umpires Bucknor and the other guy, are just pathetic and even worse than umpires in a third class match played on the streets of Australia..."WOW this was an international match in Australia with international umpires, just imagine what goes on the streets of Australia". Shame on Australian cricket team.
