It makes perfect sense
by Minto on Feb 28, 2008 02:44 AM  | Hide replies

India is at the top its game. India is the top team in the world in all forms of cricket after the amazing performance during the current tour. India will maintain its superirity in ODI and T20 for many many years, even decades, given the crop of aggressive and talented bowlers and batsmen it is producing. We have just overtaken AUS as the best test side. To maintain our new found superiority in test matches, we have to find replacement for Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag soon. This makes very good sense. We are number one.

Sehwag? He is about 26 right. So whu do we need to find a replacement for him. He is a fine batsmen and dont forget our performance down under changed drastically after having Sehwag in the side. He needs to be talked to and made to realize his role. With a batting order where he has Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman to follow he was allowed to take some chances. But now with these blokes going out he needs to be made aware that he needs to be more secure and responsible.

Good to see Gary as a coach

Hope gary will not behave like Greg & do the full justice to his assignment. Old is gold but newcomers should also be given chance. The team should combine both experience & new comers.

I dont think Kirsten is a good coach. He deliberately delayed his joining to avoid Australian tour on which Indians were suppose to fare 'real' badly. He pretended to be there just for viewing their game. He lacks commitment and does not enjoy a good repo with seniors.

sorry boss I dont agree that Greg was not doing his job honestly. Infact he was straight and honest thats why he got kick on his a..

I always felt Gary cannot do much as a coach he will just make some money and will go away.

Greg has a reputation of creating conflicts in the team. Check his history. He was the most cunning player and also the most cunning player of politics. He created conflicts between the senior players in Indian sides. Btw what makes you think he did a good job? We just won series against Pakistan under him. We were thrashed everywhere else including the WC. Even West Indies humbled us

Test matches to be removed
by ganesh shyam on Feb 27, 2008 02:13 PM  | Hide replies

Test matches is boring & the deciding 4th innings only draw interest from public...T20 taking over ODI....players play similar fashion in tests as well so might as well close Test matches...

the biggest problem for the cricket in India is fans like Ganesh Shyam, who doesn't know ABCD of cricket, yet want to pass their expert comment, be it on any player or cricket in general.

If you dont like Test Cricket, its better you dont watch cricket. Test cricket is the real test and any avid follower would accept my comment. I am missing the 4 test india played against the aussies, so much interesting, rather this one day series so one sided and boring.

Test is a diffrent ball game than ODI or T20. In T20 chances of winning by fluke is very high, which is much less in ODI and in tests it is negligible. Therefore a smaller team beating a much more reputed team is maximum in T20 less in ODI and almost nil in Test. Hence it is the real test for tenacity of a player.

What a easy task for Gary!
by Deepika on Feb 27, 2008 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

He has got a talented side which beat Australia in their back yard!
He has got selectors in hand which has almost shown seniors the door...so Kirsten would'nt have any resistance from his early counter parts!

Second Guru Greg in making!!

A place where, people love or hate you based on one match performance.I saw 100s of ppl asking sachin to retire just before last match and now they took U turn.
Its never easy to be cricketer in India,,,

but yes, at least better than pakistan .. We don't kill coach .. ;)

The meeting implies
by thomas on Feb 27, 2008 12:50 PM

The meeting of Kierten,Kumble and BCCI implies that the Test Captain and the coach want an experienced Test team atleast in next 12 months when India play around 20 Test matches. So Dravid and ganguli, along with VVS Laxman are sure to be there in Test Side.It was a message to BCCI not to get carried away by the young mantra which may succeed in Pygama cricket.
