Why are we paying big bucks for these jerks?
by Adhirv Kosrut on Feb 27, 2008 10:59 PM  | Hide replies

I don't understand. Somebody explain. With IPL bidding in a free market dynamics, the players get what they are worth. Why are they complaining? And i don't support Indian money flowing into Pakistan in any manner. Mr. Khan will be paying 40% of his share to Pak Govt. so that they can fund ISI to plant bombs in our trains. Is the govt. so short sighted? If there is a bomb blast in India, I will be the first person to urge the RBI to add Emerging media or any other team hiring Pakis, on the financing terror list.

IPL will not do much for cricket development
by Minto on Feb 25, 2008 11:33 PM  | Hide replies

IPL is made for TV viewers. The main source of revenue will be TV. Top players from AUS, IND, PAK have been signed up and paid handsome money depending on their appeal on TV. Highlighting or finding new local player is not the objective of the league. I hope people like SRK, Preity lose big time when the league disappoints. It is criminal to pay 80 M $ for a team that will play for about 6 weeks in a year. The rival league by Kapil Dev would have done great work for development of cricket. But now their situation is hopeless.

The organizers will make the same kind of money irrespective of how much money the team is getting paid for 6 weeks... That way, it is good this time even players are getting a share of the profit... Not everybody is a politians son there.. so even u have an equal opportunity to be a part of that money making team!! If you cannot then just enjoy the game. Do not set your heart on fire bcos someone is making more mone!!

I agree. I love the IPL concept, but it should be used to the maximum to develop the talent in India. BCCi should also pump in money in to Ranji trophy so that young crickets get an opprtunity to play the longer version of the game.

man how can you say that ranji money is routed to IPL. BCCI is making morew money with IPL. Any day IPL is better than ranji.. ranji matches are played on empty stadium. people dont even care about that. Now when IPL is coming in the picture people like you crying for Ranji.

T20 cricket isn't real cricket. Therefore, from a purely cricket point of view Ranji matches are more important than IPL ones anyway. And the fact is this: the future well-being of cricket hinges on the game producing well-rounded cricketers who can adapt to any length of game. Cricketers have to be brought up playing the longer versions of the game more than T20. If the BCCI doesn't do anything for Ranji trophy and the IPL keeps growing then years down the line youngsters are going to have to choose: Ranji Trophy or IPL. No prizes for guessing where the easy money lies. And if the longer game dies on the domestic level then cricketers of the future aren't going to be as skilled as the ones now who are brought up playing longer-length games, as the true test in cricket are Tests. And cricket will become predictable and boring.

Only the format that people live will thrive.. If people want 20/20 then be it. I dont believe one format is superior than other.. Say a Lakshman cannot hit 6 sixers where as Yuvraj cannot score 281 against Aussies on their peak. But watching both were exhilerating for me

not performance matters
by pcu on Feb 24, 2008 01:13 AM  | Hide replies

its really not about the current performance and in future it willnot be too. It is only about the players popularity so that the bosses of the teams can project these players as their brand ambassadors. Its really easy to guess that the players who play aggressively are more attractive and marketable than those players who really play well consistently in a classical way. As for bowlers its only popularity. In comparing Ishant who is an indian growing star with Younis (consistent but more classical/sedate in approach) is bidded for less price. For Ponting his over aggressiveness and his guilt against indians did it for him. Afterall the games are going to be played in India.
Any takers?
Hari

After first year the price tag will be based on performance, just like european soccer leagues. IPL team will not be like Indian team. If some one is not performing good, he will be replaced fast.

Relax guys!! IPL is nothing but entertainment package which will have cricket in it apart from cheerleaders dancing in skimpy outfits to Kareena, and Bipasha hip shaking in between the inning break. Do not view IPL as cricket league but look at it as a complete family entertainment and you will find it more easy to digest. Who knows you might even see Sachin shaking a leg with Bips or Ash at half time!!

there is something called as Novelty, thrill, excitement and marketing with a big M. Do you think, heavyweights like ambani, mallya, SRK, GMR would leave any stone untouched to promote IPL. Think of the promotion of OM SHANTI OM and now think of IPL being a venture which has cost them a 10 times more..

Selling and buying players is not human trafficking? Prostitution and child labour, labour exploitation can be termed as human trafficking in the eyes of law, then what is IPL aution on players? Our biggest regret.. my idols like Tendulkar, Kallis, McGrath are being sold to industrialist. How this cannot be put under human trafficking? Just because BCCI is paying heavy money to government or it is acted on by big shot industrialist?

My biggest wish.., Since Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid are so rich.. IMPA (Indian motion pictures assosciation and other film assosciation should sell franchise to cricketers and sell bollywood actors

It is not trafficking because the players have willingly signed contracts saying they will play for the person who pays them the highest salary. Human trafficking happens when people are unwillingly sold off and do not get any benefits. Here the players will get crores of Rupees to play cricket for two months.

And if you consider playing for money as prostitution then you should quit your job because you are also working for someone who is paying you money, so with your definition you are a prostitute as well.

Prostitution and cricket are getting closer, Zinta and Shah Rukh can give tips. Mallya with some alochol can make it happen quicker and if something is left for others, it is to join in a gang rape.
