RE:SL have 1/8th chance of getting thru!

If India wins first match, end of story for SL. If they lose first but wind 2nd, again curtains for SL. Only if India loose both matches, SL has chance to reach final by winning last match against Aus.
it was well set game for pakistan but the way england has batted it was amazin... finally australians r world champs... obviously they r goin to lose now... watever i m happy tat newzealand qualified gor finals...
Boy oh boy... reading various "learned" people on the Aussie scoreboard yesterday, one would have believed that Australia had secretly decided to lose the match to Sri Lanka.. :-) There were some very confident pundits who were monitoring every shot the Aussies were playing, every movement / body language of theirs, and probably had been secretly telephoned by Ponting that that is what the Aussies were about to do.. :-) Come the result and all the self-proclaimed know-it-alls have disappeared over the horizon.. That's that as much as the "experts" on this forum are concerned.. Good riddance to them! :-) P.S: to sample some of the rich (idiotic?)comments, click the Scorecard link in the story, navigate to Australia score and look in the comments...
Its difficult for SL to make it finals. But if SL Wins both matches then they are in finals and India will be out. India needs atleast one win or one draw to make finals. If india makes a draw with Australia and SL beats India and Aus, then India and SL ended up with equal points 14. run rate decides then !! India,SL match is most crucial one. If this match gets draw India are in finals

Hey Dileep: Which series are you referring to? There is no tri-series for test matches. Its only for one-dayers.. So there are no "draws"... only wins and losses.. at best, there might be no results (if match ends before each team has played at least 20 overs) but no reults are not draws.. :-)

Dileep, Good observations. India is not yet out of woods, although breathing lot easier. SL team is a fighter team and our team, India, has age old problem of getting into snooze mode after a win - regardless of the opponent. So moral for India, well underscored by your analysis, is not get complacent and take each match very seriously.

You are a dumb person. If India loses both matches India will have only 12 points and if SL win both the matches they will have 14 points. Seems Poor in maths.
India got a breather now. Otherwise they would have been under great pressure. Australia has separated themselves from the other 2 teams. Now the contest is bet SL and India for 2nd position unless Sl or India manage a miracle.
