Pace Accuracy = value
by Adnan on Feb 28, 2008 02:47 PM

When Malinga Sprays he is useless....when shoiab Aktar sprayed he went for runs....but when Brett Lee became accurate...he was thrice as effective.!

Yes VRV is fast

VRV is someone who can go beyond 140K an hour. He is tall, who can hit the deck hard. Just like Ishant Sharma.

Just being tall does not mean a bowler can bowl fast. So what stops him from bowling consistently at 140kph? Just saying that he can do so, does not matter unless he can demonstrate that by doing so consistently (not just one or two deliveries). From what we have seen, VRV is pretty useless, he does not have the pace nor variety to succeed in international games. Dont count the domestic games, we know the standards here. Even Jaiprakash Yadav and Ranadeb Bose took 50 wickets in a season. Also, how many tall bowlers we had who were really quick? (Only Srinath and now Ishant Sharma).

VRV is fast?
by CricFan01 on Feb 24, 2008 01:03 AM

VRV has taken wickets in the domestic season but cannot be considered fast by any standards. In the Duleep trophy games he was bowling around 125-128kph. He has been given enough chances in the international games and failed to impress. He does not have much variety nor speed. Even Ranadeb Bose took 60 wickets last year in domestic season but he is not upto international standards. Same with VRV. Either he has to increase his pace and/or add more variety to his bowling. He should learn something from Ishant Sharma and RP Singh, who both increased their pace and added variety since they came to international scene. Before he made his debut in 2005 there was a lot of hype about him being able to bowl at 150kph, (not sure what speed meter they used !)

VRV sereves a chance ..
by Arv Singh on Feb 21, 2008 07:16 PM

His perfromance has been steady this season and just based on that he deserves a chance. Its best to let the performnace of the Indian fast bowlers determine who is better bowler but all should get the same opportunities.

Bikash, thanks for the article. There were many good performances in this game. Trivedi and Bikramjit Mullick and Rahane performed well but VRV stands out for his consistent bowling that broke the West Zone batting twice.

His Performce is below Avg.
by Web Monkey on Feb 20, 2008 12:31 PM  | Hide replies

The 23-year-old scalped 15 wickets @ 33.26 to finish the highest wicket-taker for Punjab;

- This is not the kind of performance which would earn a test recall. Avg of 33 is poor in any format of cricket, we have bolers who avg. definitley not below avg. in first class.

If someone is looking for a spot in test team, let him get an avg below 25 over a period of time.

You have to also consider the pitches he gets the bowl with. They have no bounce, seam and are slow and dry . So the avg is not all that bad.

The pitches are same for all bowlers not just for VRV. If you have watched him bowl even in domestic season, he bowls atleast 1-2 boundary balls in an over. He also tends to bowl short and bowling this length at his speed (125-130kph) international batsmen cant get out.
In 2005 VRV and Munaf were hailed as new pace sensations who could bowl 145kph consistently. What happened to that? Both failed to live upto the expectations miserably. On current form, compared to RP Singh, Ishant Sharma (both them improved significantly since their debut), VRV and Munaf stand no chance to be successful in international cricket.

even gavaskar criticised ishant when he was new, n discarded him as a talent tried too early. but ishant proved him wrong when he was put faith on.

I think BCC fears a risk in playing them. There are rmours of performance enhancement drugs use and its best to keeop them away from exposure for a while.
