How can such a travesty take place?
How come so many outsiders in Mumbai team????
What is MNS doing? Why did they not stop the auction?

Probably Raj will learn to play cricket and kick these outsiders out of Mumbai!

Better yet he will teach all these foreigners Marathi and claim them to be sons of the soil.

wasting lots of money for nothing

As our friend shyam said, why not corporates take over social work or create employment opportunities instead of buying worn out cricketers. If they are all true indians one would have thought in terms of development of the country and i still dont know whether these cricketers are paying taxes to the country or not. The finance minister also taxes only the salaried class and not these filthily rich people who openly bids millions of dollars for a dumb reason. Are these people paying wealth taxes for these or has the government given tax exemptions for auctions involving cricket teams and cricket players. That is the reason why other countries and smaller countries which were poor in the past is standing tall above us.

God save our country and people.

Everything is easier said than done. Businessmen are working day-in and day-out not to give away their hard earned money for charity purpose. Their main purpose is to earn profit, and they don't mind in giving something towards charity, that too if they are sure that they get tax exemption for that. There is nothing wrong in their thoughts either. You start a small busines and then let me see how much charity you will do. Man, it is easy to criticise others, but when it comes to you, you will be even more rigid than these businessmen, to whom you are criticising.

I agree with your point they theyu are interested in profit.
But with a largesse of money, surely they can contribute to charity.
Bill GAtes will leave Microsoft to concentrate on Charity.

No undue importance to cricket as made out to be.

People follow sports according to the excitement it gives and the success the home team achieves. Once upon a time,in India we had sizeable followers of hockey. but defeat after defeat in the international arena, forced hockey fans to turn away from this sports. Like-wise, we will have good number of followers in tennis, if we can create more number of sania mirzas. In the men section, Leader Paes or Mahesh Bhupathi come nowhere near to Federer or Nadal. The best indian men could do so far was perhaps reaching quarter finals of a grand slam and not beyond that. Let someboey win a grand slam, and you will see the fan following in tennis. Let somebody win a gold in athelitcs in Olympics and you will see how the country will support that sport. Despite some patchy performance by our crickets,it is still one game that we can talk about and proud of. The fan folowing to this game is understandable.

And about those who are criticising the auctioneering. These are the people who watch cricket,or for that matter any other game free of cost in your TV. If TV channels start charting, they would simply switch on to AIR commentary. So much love for the game!!

Without money, you cannot achieve anything. If cricket has following in this part of the country, our cricketers must have done something extra ordinary. Let them earn money, there is no point in getting jelousy about it.

Mr Babu, Whether this is right or not right, Pls dont undermine other sports and the achievement other have got in those sports. DO u know that hockey players sleep in railway coaches when they play tournaments. Do u even know what it takes to win grand slam in tennis. Do we even have a system to build those kind of athletes. Still Paes, Bhupathi and Sania have done us proud. Though the Governments job is to "govern" as u put it, they may not be able to do it and it is then that the country's rich and famous can pool in ofcourse. Why leave all to govt. Dont answer in general just look at specific and answer my question - What is more important for us - to save the lives of many farmers who commit suicide or to ensure an IPL is conducted. What should Shard Pawar do? And What should u do more importantly- Sit in your drawing room and clap for a Dhoni six?

Moreover Mr. Sharma, being a keralite, I am not a big fan of indian cricket, although i follow this game too from early seventies. I follow football, i love volley ball - perhaps if i ask you who Jimmy GEorge was, I am sure you will not answer. If i ask you what was TC yohannan's achievement, you will not ble able to answer that. i AM SURE, 90% of those who are crying attention for other sports know the answer to above questions. I can test your knowledge on other sports - not from book, but because i followed all these games/sports closely and know these players.

Mr. Anurag,

I was a great follower of indian hockey since the time of Ajit pal singh when he won the WC for us in 1975 in Kualalumpur. Whatever Paes, Bhupathi or Sania have achieved are of their own, there is no contribution from our government. Although in india we lack infrastructure, they have access to all facilities since most of their time, they spend in foreign countries. Without any government help, somebody may triumph in a grand slam tomorrow and that will give a big boost to tennis in this country. EVen without winning any grand slam, Sania has already stirred a generation. My point is, following to any sports is directly linked to its success the home team or its countrymen achieve. Whether it is Vijay Hazare or Dhoni, many cricketers have made us proud and that is why there is a tremendous following to this game in this country. Once we were the uncrowned emperors in the world of hockey. But after successive failures in every inernational tournament, even the hard followers of this game are now a dishearted lot. Whether it is on an individual front or as a team, you have to earn respect and love from your countrymen. There is no point in chest-beating and saying that cricket is attracting more people and step-motherly treatment is given to other sports.

Mr. Sharma

I follow hockey from Ajit pal singh's time, when he won world cup for us in 1975. I was a great fan of hockey. Inspite of knowing fully that India will be beaten in their matches, I still tuned to AIR to hear the commentary/switch on my TV sets to watch them play just to see Govinda, Zaffar/Mod Shafic and Dhanraj dribbling past the defenders and creating opportunities/scoring at times. But I too then started fed up with the show when India started losing matches by tennis margin like 6-0, 6-1 etc.

And to Save life of your FARMERS, MAN, IT IS THE DUTY OF YOUR GOVERNMENT. THE GOVERNMENT YOU AND ME ELCTED. Why you are mixing up two different things. The money earned by Mallya, Ambanis etc. are not from chartity. It is their hard-earned money which they will invest in any venture, they feel is profitable. To solve your problems, ask your government to do that. They hve been doing GAribi hatao programme since independence. Where we have reached so far?

Don't be so stupid mr. Pradeep Kumar Jena. people do business to make profit and not to remove poverty. For that you have a governament in place. It is their duty to govern the country, I underline the word GOVERN. If they properly govern the country, there would not be such kind of desparity. Still, our businessmen, like TATAs and Birlas do better service to the society than these politicians and the chest beaters from general public.

Guyz i am reading comments here that dont pay so much money to these cricketers...understand that the bid money is not going to the cricketer but to the org that he is contracted to. (IPL) In 2001 (i think) Real Madrid paid Juventus FC $65 Million for procuring Zinedine Zidane ...all these players worth put together doesnt make one Europoean football player. This couple of crores is nothing and there is nothing wrong in it.

The profit will be pocket by the businessmen who got the contract awarded. They already submitted to the bid amount to BCCI, ie. they already ivnested their amount. Now the profit is for them.
