Why are we defending Rohit Sharma
by Kaushik Pal on Feb 18, 2008 08:58 PM  | Hide replies

Why are everybody defending Rohit for he started the slide with a rash shot when he needed to carry on the good work of Gambhir and then got run out when his only job was to run for the country? Just because he played one or two good innings and got PEPSI doesn't mean he has become another Sachin. He has to learn to put his head down and play well for being selected ahead of Raina and Tiwary who performed better than him in the domestic season due to Mumbai quota.

No one is defending Rohit Sharma for his rash shot. The issue of Rohit's game and Dhoni's run out is different. Rohit got out on a terrible shot not offering any footwork. But then so did Yuvi, and Gambhir and Uthappa. Id Dhoni doesnt expect Yuvi to score a half century every time why Rohit?

Anyway, Rohit is in the shoes of greats like Laxman and Dravid and Ganguly who have stabilized innings many times. He is just a kid. But blaiming him when Dhoni himself took poor decisions and went for an irresponsible run is ridiculous.

The way everybody played callously seems to have a plausible root in instructions. Dhoni may have been overconfident in instructing to play ggressively for the bonus point. He seems to think (through his numerous comments and strategies) that India can blast their way out of Australia 20-20 style.
THAT my dear is foolish.

Dhoni needs to grow up
by Cool Customer on Feb 18, 2008 08:26 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni blaming Rohit, defending Yuvi and blaming only the top order batsmen makes me wonder, is he really smart and brave or is he just street smart and bossy.
He made some choices which the pundits thought "brave". But his bravado seems to be scuttled when he is facing obvious failure of his judgement

He has chosen Rohit, Pathan as the crucial upper order. He sees himself, Uthappa and Yuvi has convinient sloggers and not responsible if there is a top order collapse. I dont see how that is smart and intelligent. He has substituted the crucial positions of Laxman/Dravid/Ganguly for inexpereinced AND raw unreliable talents. Expecting Rohit and specially Pathan to deliver is foolish. More foolish is justifying that if he and Yuvi come up to such positions when a situation demands, they can continue to be reckless and still blame the top order!

His criticism of Rohit is silly! rohit started a fraction late- which is obvious- he is a runner. Dhoni needs to use his mind about risks when calling a short run with a runner. It is always a gamble.

He is a leader who has stared blaming the grass for not being green enough, and the sky not being blue enough even while he cant figure out the difference of green from blue.

If he really wants to excel as captain, it is time he learns modesty and leanrs to respect and hear the seniors he has got in his team. Else it would be a sad inevitablity of disaster for poor Dhoni!

Double Standards

Dhoni said,"It was bad reaction from Rohit. Even with the cramps I could have run and made it easily".

If it was Yuvraj running for Dhoni and gets run out, then Dhoni would have said,"I will keep Yuvraj as runner for me in every match because he is my ....

Dhoni remains arrogant and defiant
by Vinayak Gadekar on Feb 18, 2008 04:56 PM

1) It is unfair on Dhoni's part to blame Rohit Sharma for his runout. When you have a runner, co-ordination and running betn wickets for sharp singles becomes usually difficult. This is a well-known fact. If Dhoni could have run properly even with cramps, then why did he ask for a runner ? Pretty strange logic by Dhoni.

2) Dhoni's tactics were faulty in this game:
a) Pathan at no 3 ? At best Pathan is a bowling allrounder. He is not more than a no 8.

b) Dhoni is giving himself a false sense of a long batting line-up till no. 7, by putting Pathan at 3.

c) Uthappa is an opener and is really wasted at no. 7. Robin can not work his way through with smart singles at that position.

d) Most of the bastmen are equipped for 20-20 and do not have the technique and temperament to play in a 50-over game.

Dhoni's captaincy is terrible
by Kprabal on Feb 18, 2008 04:54 PM

I think Dhoni's captaincy is terrible. He did not bowl the fullquota of Ishant Sharma & Shreesanth. Unnecessarily bowled Yuvraj at a time when it was required to put pressure on the Australian batsman. This somewhat released the pressure and Australia got away with a total of more than 200. Sending Pathan at no 3 was a blunder.

hearing gavaskar and shastri in the commentary box you feel that sachin can do no wrong--extraneous reasons are given for his dismissal but he is never at fault--the other day rohit sharma was scoring and shastri was letting eveyone know that he (shastri) was from mumbai too-as regards harsha bhogle the less said the better--the moment he starts talking about sachin sounds as if he is having an orgasm just sitting there!!

Shastri adds no value in his commentary...he just gets excited about a wicket falling or a batsman hitting a six...all he has is a decent accent...even akram adds more value with his comments...

gavaskar...he does add value but should say he is the most biased commentator in cricketing circles...not too different from Healy and co...as if it was just one team that is playing and that is India..

Bhogle speaks within his limitations....

Chapel is by far the best!!!!!!!

The Indian batting looks terrible. It is brittle.Sachin has no hunger and plays with a bored look.It does not seem to matter to him.Yet another game to him.No hunger.Sehwag just cannot deliver in ODI format.Noone can say why he is good for only ten runs each match.Gambhir will always be a bunny to the short ball.Rohit Sharma seems organised and can possibly deliver consistently but has been ticked off by the captain.Yuvraj in my view has not returned to form.Could have been out several times. His shot to get out from a winning position was horrible.Shows the worst attitude.Irfan being pushed around.Don't we have a regular number 3?Uthappa is a flash in the pan and Dhoni has killed him by moving him down. What a mess?Who is accountable? It is the great Dhoni no doubt.
There is a case for having Dravid or Ganguly in each series to provide some middle order stability.Yuvraj is not cut out for this.So bad move by Dhoni getting rid of them .

Good point. Yuvi is no good. In my opinion Yuvi ws bad most of the time. he has no technique. The time he hit 6 six and centuries was just a very pleasant surprise for me. People were making a Don Bradman out of Yuvi and india is paying the price for it. he has played 11 matches in Aus and not performed. His getting out was never a chance or for a beauty from the bowler. It isjust he was clueless.

A request to the ghaatees!
by zindaa hoon on Feb 18, 2008 04:25 PM  | Hide replies

I request all the ghaatees with the folded hands that they should request their fellow ghaatee Tendulkar to retire gracefully. By hanging around, he is not gaining anything except extra money. But, he has so much money already, what will he do with the extra money? Since I am a bhaiya, he will not listen to me. But, he might listen to the ghaatees. So ghaatees, be patriotic for a change, and ask your God to retire now.
