Ideal Test Pitches
by Ramanjaneyulu Gandluri on Feb 06, 2008 10:31 AM

An ideal pitch is the one that assists fast/seam bowlers during the first one or one and half days, becomes a good batting track in the next two days, and starts taking turn in the remaining days. Batsman of exceptional calibre or those who are lucky can survive in the first 1-2 days and the last two days. Good bowlers can bag wickets on the 3rd and 4th day also.

Wickets in Sydney, Brisbane and Mohali can be considered as ideal test pitches, that way.

Grooming youngsters
by sajin mv on Feb 06, 2008 10:23 AM

An eye-opening fact resemble in your feature which is very near to the truth. It is high time to start grooming youngsters for the future, however, their skills, capacity to adapt and survive tough conditions is much more important irrelevant of subcontinent or bouncy pitches. The batsmen or the bowler should be able to adapt and atleast show his basic potentials to claim as an professional player. As Uthappa has to reveal his potential in Australian pitches or leave his way to others like Raina or Tiwary. As boasted by his supporters,it is true,he is a cool-headed and hitter, however, his scoring not progressed more than 20-30 runs even if he got ample time to score big runs. His gap can easily filled by an all rounder like Pathan and include another bowler. As regards Tiwary, time will prove his mettle. sharma has shown his potential but to score runs.Raina, should get chance, however,I believe,Karthick has to back to domestic matches and improve his skill like Parthiv & Kaif is doing presently

What are you saying Vengsarkar?

If you prepare bouncy pitches, how will the flat pitch wonder of Indian Cricket score, where will his hundreds come from?

Bouncier Pitches
by Vishvapriyo Ray on Feb 05, 2008 08:17 AM  | Hide replies

Yeah!!!! Right!!!! Every time India loses a series abroad we hear the same story - just the people telling the story are different. The Aussies won the last test series they played in India. I wonder if they had changed all their test wickets to slow, low, turners to win that particular series ;)

Thats not the case. We have to provide wickets that are helpful to all players, provided they apply themselves. We need to have a few bouncy tracks. Not all of them need to be bouncy. Few of them should take spin as the game progresses. That is how cricket will improve. Changing the entire domestic scene thoroughly might not be the correct solution.

You need to know one thing that Elf-Vengsarkar Academy was formed with this goal in mind to make more players good at pace bowling. Vengsarkar auctioned the bat which made 3 centuries at lords and used the money for this academy to train 30 boys at a time free of cost to build a team.
You must accept that Vengy was not as commercial as others like Srikanth, Ravi and Gavaskar and tried to give some thing in return to the cricket.

Same old topic
by Poim on Feb 05, 2008 07:12 AM

This topic comes up after every overseas tour where bouncier tracks are found.
Instead of doing such a mass scale change why not have a camp of sufficient duration with doctored pitches that emulate overseas conditions?

NITIN RAJ
vengsarkar the real culprit
by NITIN RAJ on Feb 05, 2008 03:57 AM  | Hide replies

Vengsarkar though a very fantastic batsman does not possess any brain. I remember he was dancing while batting on Australia soil when he last toured australia in 1992. He was clearly selected only because he was the one toured with Shastri , Kapil and Azharuddin himself to Australia. But his selection was not on his merit or performance but only because he toured that country in the past.

He should have taken up this matter immediately once he came back to India. Now after 17 years he is barking for bouncier tracks. Sounds very strange isn't it ?? yeh to aaisa hogaya ki aurat 60 saal ke umar main maa ban ne sapne dekhti hai.

I see many people make comments without really trying to know the facts.
