Brett Lee, a role model
by Samosachat on Feb 04, 2008 09:03 PM  | Hide replies

Brett Lee should be a role model for our big mouth bowler Sreesanth and other well behaved pacers like Ishanth and R.P.Singh.

Imagine if Sreesanth performs even 10% of what Lee does! Shreesanth would be dancing naked on the fields. Sucess gets into our youngsters head easily for no reason. But once they are abroad, they will know the real story when they get hammered mercilesley. Learn to perofrm on the field as a crickter not as a maniac or dancer. You can do dancing elsewhere!

Lee was never a consistent bowler when he started his career. He has grown, no doubt about that and I admire him. But he was under the wings of McGrath and Shane before he shown his potential. So, don't hit Sreesanth just because you want to hit him. Indian players have shown their talent without much support from the team, most of the time.

Good to watch the youngsters
by Sikander on Feb 04, 2008 11:45 AM

It was a pleasure to watch the youngsters in the first ODI. Rohit Sharma batted beautifully and reminded one a lot of VVS Laxman. He has the same lazy elegance and a lot of time to play the Fast bowlers.
Ishant has truly developed into a good frontile Fast bowler. It is time he was given the responsibility of the New Ball instead of Irfan who can bowl first change. Sreesant after a poor start also bowled beautifully with the upright seam.
For the next match, I guess Yuvraj will replace Tiwari who looked clueless against the extra pace of Lee and Johnson.
Hopefully, the exciting Uthappa will fire in the next match as will the long overdue Dhoni who seems to have forgotten ALL his exciting strokes.

lee's purple patch...
by Kumaraswamy Pillay on Feb 04, 2008 09:03 AM  | Hide replies

Well every player will have a purple patch somewhere in their careers. Lee is having one now. Enjoy it as much as you can until it lasts for we dont know when he will get injured and be out of action for another 6 months. Having said that i think indian management took the right decision of leaving dravid and ganguly out. Dravid is any way injured and out now. Gangu was going nowhere with his poor fitness. Its tough to take him only on batting as he is a big liability in the field also he is already going to be 36 and unrealistic that he will be playing the world cup 2011. So considering all that it is a bold decision. But i felt the start of this experiment should have been against some what lower level teams like newzealand or atleast against pakistan and not against australia. It can be a shattering experience for an youngster to have checkmated by brett lee in perth or brisbane. That will prove very harmful to their confidence. BCCI should not waste this opportunity and invest in right kind of guys so that their investment yields the right result. If an youngster is selected he should be given chance atleast for couple of tournaments so that we can learn about his real worth. Fans please keep faith and dont get agitated if our guys are losing some matches as every investment will take some time to give fruit and we cant expect a tendu out of a new guy very early in their career. Lets hope that atleast some of them utilize the chance and go on to become good players.

The teams like Australia and England and New Zealand select the players after their thorough exposure to domestic cricket which is by far the highest standards. In India, any one makes a debut at the drop of the hat, making good solid contributions in Ranji and Duleep trophy matches on flat wickets and then failing against quality bowling. BCCI should get rid of Zonal arrangements and make an Acadamy to concentrate and train only few "good" players from Ranji level and pitch them against International teams. In a few years from now there would be no Ganguly or Dravid or LAxman or Tendullkar playing for India. BUt Indian public will be following cricket and if Team India fails, someone will have to face the music.

I totally agree with you. The talent we have is raw not tested for time and technique. We need a situation in India to stimulate the youngsters to conditions that are English, Auustralia like to cope up with higher challenges.Till then I am afraid we do not have replacement to Sachin,Dravid & even Ganguli. Laxman, is a class, it is an art therefore, it is rare. Enjoy it till he is playing the game. It will die with him. Please give him chances to at least play Test matches in India & abroad for some more time for the sake of grace and Game!

Brett Lee the real Bruce Lee of cricket
by john on Feb 03, 2008 11:23 PM  | Hide replies

It was one hell of a show. Fast, accurate, controll and agression. Both seniors and the so called "youngsters" had no answer to the bowling of Brett. He is improving day by day in his performance and on field behavior.Shoib or no Shoib, Lee is well ahead, as he has not too many unwanted controversies, good action and keeps himself fit, atheletic and does what he is supposed to be doing on the field, finish off the opposition. Good Luck man.

Absoulutely. He is a pleasure to watch though menacing for the batsmen with his blitzkrieging fire power. He is Mcgrath minus sledge dispensing mouth.
