Dhoni gets second threat, warned not to involve police
-Zeenews Bureau

Ranchi, Dec 31: Indian team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has reportedly received a second letter, believed to be from a Mumbai based shooter Tasleem, of the infamous D-company, threatening to blow-up Dhoni’s house in Ranchi. The letter also warned the cricketer and his family not to take the threats lightly.

The same gang in an earlier letter, had demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakh as protection money, following which a Z-category security cover has been accorded to Dhoni.

The demand was made through a letter posted at Dhoni's Ranchi residence. Tasleem is currently absconding.

The Dhoni family had handed over the letter to Superintendent of Police of Ranchi and has demanded extra security cover. In the second letter, the group had instructed them not to show the letter to authorities.

Though the family had only unofficially confirmed the first extortion call was made, the local administration has enhanced the security cover.

The police meanwhile, suspect the local ‘Surinder Bengali gang’ behind the threat. The police is also not ruling out handiwork of some small time miscreants.

Dhoni is one of India's leading batsman and a fine wicketkeeper with a massive fan following.

The popularity of Dhoni increased immensely after he captained ''Team India'' to victory in the inaugural Twenty-20 World cup in 2007.

This is worst for everyone's future. Indian Security is being again & again questioned....

Why tax payer funded security for the Cricketers?
by sudip majumder on Dec 31, 2008 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni, Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly all these high priced cricketers/ex earn millions in even $ terms - I do not see any justification whatsoever to provide security coverage for them - they earn enough to pay for their own security coverage just like Ratana Tata, ambani do. Mr. Chidambaram started very well with a refreshing approach to the home ministry - I hope he would look into the billions of rupees being spent in the name of providing security to these folks plus other well-off folks with literally ZERO VALUE to the tax payers or citizens of the country.

You are absolutely right Mr.Sudip. Dhoni should pay for his own security coverage like the Tata, Ambani etc. If he wants Z-category security, he should pay the Government the entire cost.
