The reason for India winning the Test
by krishnan viswanathan on Dec 24, 2008 11:30 AM  | Hide replies

The prime reason for India winning the test in Chennai is SACHIN TENDULKAR. He is the one who stdied the innings when India were 2 down for 100 odd runs and made sure his partners played a sensible game and lead for indian victory. When the whole world harps about kevin peterson and yuvaraj talks on the ground, dhonis field placement, Zahirs bowling Gambhir's batting there is not a single word about the man who carved this victory for india. what a pity. thats what indian press was about. People say shewag showed the way. Taking no credits from his skill one should agree that he only played his natural game and only Sachin planned the innings and steared india to vicory. No wonder India makes great men martyrs soon. Being a great fan of cricket I feel that its total injustice done to the great maestro by not acknowledging his feat and the place it deserves.

Mr.Ravi,
I am sorry to say that, Cricket also a team game. No any chance to one man show in the team game specially in Cricket. Also I agree with you The Great Sachin Teldulkar is a all time classic player, no doubt.

Came at 141/4. Of the remaining 246, he scored 103 to win and to deny a century to Yuvraj.

How in the last 7 or 8 years, pitches around the world have become flat and consequent rise of India in the rankings...till the 90s when pitches had more pace and bounce, India used to be a very weak team abroad and depend on one man army of Sachin Tendulkar....

Player's interest over country's

Dhoni said that it was team's decision to give a chance to Gambhir & Yuvraj to score Centuries. So the personal records are more important for our team than to win a match for the country.

It is pity that this attitude is unlikely to change even under Dhoni's captaincy. Full credit to Virender Sehwag, else we would not have won even Chennai test.

You dumb nitwit !! If India would have given them a challenging score, there was a possiblity of India losing the match and as a result drawing the series. I think it was a wise decision from Dhoni to play safe and win the series 1-0.
PS: You dont need to repeat messages to make a point dumbo...!!

You must be even dumber. The late declaration proves that Dhoni cannot go for the kill. So much for people going ga ga over his captaincy. He should have declared early and ggone for the kill. Instead he killed the test match. Why he wanted his pets to score centuries.

If Dhoni had gone for the kill and lost the match and drawn the series u would have been the first to criticise him..U would have told that he shouldnt have declared so early..U reacted this way only bcos he mentioned that Yuvraj and Gambhir were given a chance to score centuries..
Anyway different people in different situations think differently..In the end,the end justifies the means...

i agree sehwag set up the chennai game, but dont forget sachin's effort. to achieve what he did is amazing esp because 20 years of wear and tear does take toll on body and mind, and yet he was as cheerful as any other teeanger. btw, does anyone know how many points a team gets in this ranking system for win at home versus an away win in test and odi matches? thanks.

and yes, it was a bummer to see gambhir and yuvraj go for personal milestones. i mean, come on, indian team could have shown some reciprocal spirit and make a match of it, given the fact that the english came back and played when it was important for us.
