Test Squad
by RG on Dec 04, 2008 04:59 PM

Yuvraj Singh and Pragyan Ojha have been included in the 15-man squad for the two-Test series against England. Tamil Nadu's M Vijay, who debuted in the final Test against Australia last month, and S Badrinath have been retained for the series, scheduled to start in Chennai on December 11.

Yuvraj made two consecutive match-winning hundreds (138* and 118) against England in the first two ODIs of the seven-match series, and also picked up a four-wicket haul in Indore. Kris Srikkanth, the chairman of selectors, had said that he saw Yuvraj as the front-runner to take Sourav Ganguly's slot.

Yuvraj has had an inconsistent run in Test cricket, having played just 23 matches for 1050 runs since his debut five years ago. However, he has been a mainstay for India in one-day cricket having piled up 6466 runs in 222 matches. It has now been confirmed that Yuvraj is Ganguly's Test replacement.

Ojha, who toured Sri Lanka with the Test team this summer but has yet to make his debut, replaced RP Singh, who had an indifferent ODI series against England. There are no other changes to the bowling line-up

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt/wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, S Badrinath, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, M Vijay, Yuvraj Singh, Pragyan Ojha

Cricket mania
by lakshmanan sowmianarayanan on Dec 04, 2008 03:54 PM

Ours is the only country where a person scoring sixes in an over is given a fat reward of crores of rupees while those engaged in fighting terrorists get only booed down and criticised.Remeber the police are fighting the terrorists with lathis and old type weapon whereas the cricketers play with all modern equipments. We will develop as a sensible nation only when our craze for this foolish game dies.

Charity Match Not Needed
by Jaideep Patil on Dec 04, 2008 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

Rather than playing the Charity match and getting money from Public's pocket ask Indian players who played last England Five one dayers to give their 2 match feed along with the man of the match rewards. I doubt whether they will do this. Any ways these celebrities (Cricketers and Film Star) rarely empty their pockets (Baring few) for the causes. Either they perform on a show free that means again common man end up paying for the show tickets or cricketers play exibition matches with bollywood and ask people to pay for the tickets...rubish..

Well said Patil. All these celebrities (Sports/Film/Media) make more money in the name of charity events, its nothing but fooling people and IT. But they never shell out even a paisa out their pocket. Its up to people to realise and reject those charity events.

poor indian cricket players
by manju on Dec 04, 2008 02:20 PM

shame on the players they earn millions of $$$$
if each player donates few % of it better than playing a charity match .even if they play, just play for name sake not for a serious cricket and some great players will surely have injury

Keep in mind
by Kamal Kishor on Dec 04, 2008 01:49 PM  | Hide replies

We should keep in mind that this match should be played in Sri Lanka so that the money collected from spectators is primarly from Sri Lankan population.

For Indians If they really feel they can directly donate the money rather than waiting to see a cricket match and then donate.

Mr. Kamal Kishor I strongly appreciated your views. Every Indian should think and go to the root of the income for the victims.

At least somebody is showing some appreciation for this kind gesture of SLC. The rest of you are discussing irrelevant stuff in response to this article - have some shame! Thank you Sri Lankan cricket. Your heart is in the right place.
