Cricket is no longer interesting
by Kaushik Pal on Sep 02, 2008 09:58 AM  | Hide replies

India lost the Test series due to curse of Dhoni. We felt bad when he cursed Dada who brought him to cricket but to do politics with the nation and not play under Kumble saying I am not 100% in practice was bad. Does he mean to say India winning is less important than his personal practice requirements. The difference in keeping (read catches/ stumping) and batting was 100 runs in each innings as Dinesh Karthik stood in place of Dhoni, could not concentrate while catching and batting, knowing these were his last international appearances. India lost the 1st test due to his vital catch drops and 3rd test missing Dhoni's batting skills (one innings of 70 odd). Then Dhoni returned to work diligently to scrape trough his fledgeling team with 2nd grade players on his and Zaheer's performances (mainly due to toss as batting second in Sri Lanakan pitches not possible and everyone incl Dhoni failed miserably. His so called fielding team dropped many catches during 2 ODI's in which India was thrashed by the Lankans with Munaf, Ojha, Gambhir, Zaheer whose fielding is very bad. It would be interesting to see what Dhoni does next. To play Aussies (unlike Bangla, Lanka) w/o Fab4 and Kumble will end Dhoni's career while if he avoids again it would be obvious he is sulking with lame excuse.

While Australia disciplines its best all rounder Symonds Team India is suffering on account of the whims and fancies of its best all-rounder Dhoni. Difference in culture which makes Aussies no 1 yet Symonds a poor guy contemplating retirement and Indian team no 5 while individually Dhoni is no 1 both in ranking and income.

I am a Dada fan because he was instrumental in bringing mega stars into Indian cricket like Sehwag (triple ton master) Yuvi (6 sixes in 20-20), Dhoni (greatest all round keeper cum bat), Zaheer, Bhajji and others and making Team India a bigger draw than Pakis / Aussies. I am also a Dhoni fan because he has redefined cricket in everything he does on and off the field coming from the poorest zone and nurturing people from other zones without any zonal bias. I really love to see Dhoni perform like his other fans. But it pains me that this bloke does not realise Indian team is bigger than all the money in the world as nation comes first which both Dada and Leander has stood for.

This test team performed well then ODI team
by Randhir Kumar on Sep 01, 2008 06:17 PM  | Hide replies

the indian current ODI ranking shows how the indian team performed.from Dravid to Dhoni the indian team only lose there repo and ranking. Mr. Dhoni and there young guns are just hero because of media. What happen team india? when Gangully was captain the India ODI ranking is 2 and Test ranking is also 2 or 3. India manage the ranking in test but in ODI team is poor then how we can say our team is performing well.

Musings on rankings
by Orient Mystique on Sep 01, 2008 12:40 PM  | Hide replies

I do believe that ICC keeps in mind certain qualitative factors while awarding points and arriving at the ranking.

For example, more points should accrue to the Indian team for not just winning 3 out of 5 matches in the ODI series, but recording a series win on foreign soil. An untenable clustering of India, Pakistan, Srilanka and Bangladesh as "subcontinent" should not cloud or colour the points, since playing conditions depend not just on soil and pitch but also on weather, crowd support etc.

On the contrary, while not taking away any credit for the brilliant show of England against SA (especially under a new captain), it is still a home series for England and hence their points should be decided accordingly.

Many bloggers are merely carried away by the (misleading) title of the above article in Rediff (which talks about slipping in the ranking) WHICH DOES NOT HIGHLIGHT THAT INDIA'S POINTS TALLY HAS GONE UP FROM 112 TO 113.

I am extremely happy with Young Team India's show in the ODI series. The very fact that an ODI series win for India has come on Srilankan soil AFTER 23 YEARS (not achieved earlier under more illustrious captains) adds so much to its sweetness and value.

Even England has defeated South Africa in England , the Point they concider is that England defeated a much better team (SA Rating 2 ) where as India defeated a Team which is lower then its ranking (I guess rank 7)..so now tell me who should gain more points...

Yuvi the player to be kicked out soon
by Raman on Aug 31, 2008 11:24 PM  | Hide replies

I just saw a video of Yuvi saying Indians tackled Mendis well and that is why we won.well this is a big joke and the worst stinking lie,the guy takes 26 Test wickets and 13 Odi wickets and u say we tackled him well?
Not to mention those 6 wickets in that finals of asia cup,so in all Mendis has taken 19 wickets in 6 odis agaist us and 26 in 3 tests,i think even he took all 60 wickets in tests and all 50 wikets in odis Yuvi will say we played mendis well,i used to admire yuvis talent and thought his arrogance and partying nature were his enemies but i realize he is a big liar and totally unfit to even think of regaining his test place....Dhoni on the other hand has gone from strength to strength, never lies and always compliments whoever performed well,be it a opponent player or our own player...

what yuvi meant was if Indians had not tackled Mendis well thenn our team would have lost 5 nil and Mendis would have got more than 25 wickets.

In this sport-starved country, people will go on watching cricket regardless of its quality since there is nothing else left to watch in sports. We are forced to follow the least popular game in the world(only 12 countries play seriously).
