Australia are smart , they have 2 practice 3 day matches before the Test to get themselves familiarised.

who are the fast bowlers in the side apart from Sreesanth? I thought Manpreet Gony should have been included.

what has kaif done wrong
by abdul nazeer on Aug 24, 2008 01:44 PM  | Hide replies

I dont feel like kaif is a bad captain, he is a proven captain, instead of grooming him, the selectors are dumping him, if he is not a good bat, why should they include him in the earlier test series and also in this A squad, this is a very bad treatment which can break his confidence. Yuvraj is playing good cricket 1 in 5 matches, why not kaif. Virat kohli could have been made to wait and kaif included to give an experience and strength to the indian team. The likes of rahul and saurav expelled from odi's means, there should be solidity, so kaif would hv been a good choice keeping in view he is one of the 5 top scorers in ranji last season. badrinath deserves selection, but kohli, not yet. I dont feel rohit sharma and raina can withstand the pressures of international cricket. All are not as blessed as dhoni or sehwag or sachin. We need fighters in the team like kaif. I feel Irfan should go to domestic circuit, he is really a waste in the team now. Munaf is a good choice, even in test level, keeping in view his line and length. Sreesanth needs to be disciplined. RP singh and ishant with zaheer are the spearheads now.

Effortless

Kaif has been given plenty of chances, almost played over 70-80 ODIs and few tests. His technigue is not good enough to play genuine quick bowling and moving ball. He cant play aggressively, his strike rate is around 70, not good enough. He was brought back after WC but was did not play well in the chances given to him. Kaif's captaincy skills are over stated. Winning an under 19 WC is not same as captaining India. Even Virat Kohli was the captain of the U19 WC team where they reached finals. Agree about Kohli, he should be groomed for future as he looks too raw. Rohit Sharma did play very well in Australia and also later at home against SL. He needs to be consistent though, otherwise he should be sent back to domestic cricket. Irfan's career has been spoilt by GC by unnecessarily projecting him as all rounder, now he is neither here nor there. But he is still very young so should make efforts to bowl a lot quicker and get back his swing for which he was famous. He should be told to concentrate on his bowling for a while.Sreesanth should be dropped, he is like a child who needs constant attention and focuses more on antics than his bowling which is very inconsistent. Pace bowling should be Zaheer, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma, Munaf (for ODIs).

To some extent I agree with you with regard to kaif, but what i mean to say is, he is better than kohli, better than badrinath or rohit sharma. He is consistent. You mean agreesive and not consistent is good. Ask selectors how difficult it is to select viru when he is out of form and failing regularly, you never know. But for kaif, we are sure he can play like dravid.
