In India, captain never resigned. Board, either dismiss the captain or sack from the team.

sachin tendulkar also voluntarily stepped down. the reason for sachin , rahul quiitting is they did not want to jeopardize their market potential by hogging the criticism for team failures as invariably the captain is the target even though it is team game.

is not in form now. He had taken correct decision to step down.
Though he was not performing well for sometime, he was a real Gentleman.

India's captains believe in being dropped out of team and not on resigning on their own.

He has done a good job after Dravid resigned as test captain. He will make way for MSD no sooner that guy is ready.Unfortunately Ganguly & sachin who actually should now make way for new generation are not listning to their body & no one in Indian board has the courage to ask them for retirement.
