My dear Raman ,your cricketing is absolutely miserable .Still you are praying for all the old plyers who are allready past their prime .If you really for the old then why you are not calling Kapil Dev, Vishanath,Srikanth,Amarnath ,Gavaskar ,Vengsarkar who are all time greats of Indian Cricket ,perhaps still better than present player in terms of batting and bowling at least .But what is the statistic of fielding powers of all the old players ,can they match Dhoni,Yabaraj,Rohit ,and other fit players in the present Team who can save at least 70 to 80 runs by sheer good fielding provided your good and sensible sense agree with my views .

Brainless BCCI
by India on Aug 02, 2008 11:26 AM  | Hide replies

If Ashok was such a shrewd cricketer then why was he not given a chance to coach team India? Afterall they tried Anhuman, Chappell and others who were mediocre. BCCI is always been run by crooks. That is a real shame that Ashok never coached India.

I understand your grouge agaisnt BCCI,Gavaskar but I am sorry to say that this is not the forum to express such filthy language ,There are plenty of cricketing columme where you could have express your feeling and perhaps could have got some friends to support you but you have miserably failed to establish yourself as a human being because you are totally misfit here as we are all expressing our grief to a departed soul who rendered his service in cricket even he was the son of great Vinu Mankad. I advise you not to write anything to this columme again with your similar venomus word ,so it is better to accept your falt rather inviting further irr from others which is the best way to remain a good human being .There is nothing wrong on accepting any personal falt to others even I am appologistic to you if I have heart your feeling knowingly or unknowingly

what a stupid comment Mr. Raman. Have some respect. We are paying tribute to a fellow cricketer not critisizing Pawar. Have some sensibility and keep you comments to yourself. Shame on you.
My deep condolences on the demise of Shri Ashok Mankad at an early age. He was always a cheerful man with great sense of humor. May God give strength to his family and Rest His Soul in Peace.

Asokh Mankad
by abboral boral on Aug 01, 2008 07:13 PM

One of the finest opening batsman and very agressive brain of captains is no more .Its sad and shoking .He was only 61 years .I have seen him playing one of the ranji match in Eden Garden as a captain of Bombay team and what a captain .He virtually won the match from a disasters start by simply rotating his limited bowling resource and wonderfull field placement .He never shown any displeasure in the field against any player and even used to clap opponents player for a good shots or a bowling .A rare character will never be seen in Indian cricket anymore .Doni has such character ,I hope he maintains the same

It is interesting to go through the comments of BCCI after the death of Ashok Mankad who though not as successful as his father was still a very good one. How is it that BCCI never gave him enough opportunities to utilise his skills and knowledge.

Ashok Mankad
by Ram Bhatt on Aug 01, 2008 05:19 PM

One of the few tactician of cricket who could not become captain of India (the list includes Chandu Borde, Mohinder Amarnath, Ravi Shastri etc) though he was the most deserving candidate. A real team man with sharp brain who led Bombay to Ranji trophy. My condolence to Nirupma and Harsh. We have lost a great cricketing brain whose services remained unutilised.

RIP Ashok Mankad
by Anantharaman Rangan on Aug 01, 2008 05:17 PM

Yes Ashok Mankad was an astute captain. Many would remember the bold declaration at lunch on day 1 of a ranji match when Mumbai who were caught on a sticky wicket, were 97 odd for 7. The opposition batting after lunch faced similar fate and were dismissed for a low score after which Mumbai piled on the runs and dismissed the opponents easily to win the match.
