Prospects of IPL teams
by Bald Head on Apr 18, 2008 12:46 PM

T20 is even more of a gamble than 50 over ODIs and it is difficult to predict outcomes. If Zimbabwe can beat Australia in T20 matches and Bangladesh can beat Australia in 50 over matches, what can one really predict?

Inspite of such uncertainty, no force on earth can prevent me from fancying the chances of various teams and making my own assessments (call it guess or wild guess, doesn't really matter, or does it?).

My gut feeling is that today's inaugural match will be won by Kolkata team.

Also, it is my guess that the semifinalists will be Hyderabad (Deccan Chargers), Chennai (Chennai Super Kings), Mohali (Kings XI, Punjab) and Kolkata Knight Riders. May be, Delhi Daredevils can upset and replace one of these teams.

I see no hope really for the rest, viz. Bangalore, Jaipur and Mumbai teams.

But, as I already said, any team can upset any other in the shorter versions of the game.

IPL would generate Positive spirit among all !!! Truely amazing ,,lets us celebrate it!!!!!
by S Narain on Apr 18, 2008 11:34 AM  | Hide replies

let us wish that the global involvement of players from different countrie & regions would genrate spirit that India has always stood for centuries i.e. Vasudhev Kutumbakam ,,,it is our belief that great feeling of comraderie be generated from IPL to make India where we consider guest as almost
GOD( Athithi Devo Bhava).
Although, the rivals have suddenly become friends & also friends have become rivals.
We all know that we have mature players & supporters know that good cricket at the end of the day would generate goodwill which may not happen in our normal cricket due to presence of petty politics & sometimes obnoxious parochialism, regionalism.
In a mlticultuaral society like India we must celebrate the cultural differences which enrich Indian culture & rightly be proud of our regional identities, like Mumbaikar can be proud of Mumbai,Or Kolkatan can take pride of their culture,so a Banglorian can be prouf of Bangalore culture instead of ,always trying to run down each others cultural richness by being parochial.
lets us celebrate like world is one family .that would betrue tribue to IPL

It will be really a rare experience for Indians to watch the following contests in Indian soil:

Ricky Ponting Vs Bret Lee
Jacques Kallis Vs Ntini
Mathew Hayden Vs Shane Warne
Gilchrist Vs Glen McGrath
Gibbs Vs Pollock
B McCullum Vs Daniel Vettori

Even Indian duels like these will be first ever in T20 format:

Dhoni Vs Ishant Sharma
Sachin Vs Agarkar
Sehwag Vs Zaheer Khan
Ganguly Vs Harbhajan Singh

Let us enjoy watching these and many such more over the next month and half. Thanks BCCI.

The Lone Matador
by Indra nil Sengupta on Apr 17, 2008 08:22 PM  | Hide replies

He stands high in the middle of the forest,
Last light of the sun fades,
On the trees and there he grows taller and taller.
All alone he listens to the Bird song %u2013
Blue and white birds sing
On the treetops, inside the coves.
The stream also starts singing
And the young moon dances to the tune
With the white clouds.
And he grows and grows
With the breeze that blows across the ocean
Bringing along the sweet smell
From the alien land.
