Douglas Hondo and Shubash Gupte are in different leagues... i agree Gupte is not in the league or Warne or Kumble .. becos simply suggesting what might have been is a waste of time... but DOuglas Hondo was nothing more than a club level bowler and Gupte was a genuine test wickettaker all over the world even though in a short career... and at the end, i think you might have meannt henry olonga instead of hondo

No Doubt, but we can't forget B.S.Chandrasekhar, he was also great. How do we forget his xcellent spell in Eden Gardens,on 74-75 against West Indies. Shane Warne graet, but he is lucky enough not to bowl against Viv, Lloyed, Greenidge, Boycot, Gower. He was looking ordinary against Indian batting line up.

Thats not fair to warne.. i mean then you could say the west indian batsmen were not that great because they never had to face their own bowling.... i think warne would be equally sucessfull and impactful in any era... he had luck on his side that he did play in one the best cricket sides weve seen... when a team continously scores 400 and the opening bowlers get 50 for 2 life is easier for shane warne..
149 wickets in 36 tests at more than 4 wickets per test is ample testimony of the class and guile of Gupte...
The artticle is very good but considering that ther test is at Green Park Kanpur, the article should also have referenced to two other great spells of bowling at the ground :
1) Jasu Patel taking 14 for 124 against Benaud's Aussies in 1959 and helping india win a memorable match..
2) 1983 West Indies tour of India, where Malcolm Marshall bowling a frightening spell on the 2nd evening, getting Sunny Gavaskar out for a 2nd ball duck, Mohinder for a 1st ball duck and reducing India to 34 for 5..... That is the most frightening and express pace spell of fast bowling i have ever seen in my life!!
I'll always associate these 2 spells of bowling with the legendary Green Park at Kanpur!!
