The best tonic
by shekhar@asthana.com on Sep 27, 2007 03:55 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is the best thing to happen to Indian Cricket in the past decade. After the slackness of Sachin we were looking for a real hero and we have got this Uttarakhand Lad.

Where is your family originally from?

Pan Singh: We are from an area that has become part of Uttaranchal (Uttarakhand). My district is Almora. The name of my village? You will have to go into the dehaat for that. It is Talasaalam. It is about 15.5 miles from Almora. In those days it was reachable only on foot. Now it is a bus road and it is 40 km away from Almora. It is a mountainous and you have go all the way around by road.

I came to Ranchi in 1964. I was doing farming in Almora. But was hoping to get a service job. Actually from Almora I went to Lucknow and from there to Bokaro. The steel plant was being built in Bokaro and there was a promise of jobs. But I was late in reaching there (and there were no jobs). I do not have much education so I was simply looking for some kind of job. Hoping to get something.

But when I reached this township I got a job with Hindustan Steel Authority. I got a job as an unskilled worker. But by retirement my designation was work supervisor.

She (the mother) is from Nainital district. She came here in 1969.

But your son is from Ranchi?

Pan Singh: Yes. He went to our company school, DAV. He started playing on the school team. He was born in Ranchi on July 7, 1981 in a hospital right here.

Joginder the real soldier: Bhajji was scared in both the games!
by dc on Sep 27, 2007 03:55 PM  | Hide replies

Bhajji was actually reluctant to bowl either the 19/20 th over against Australia in the semifinals. It was only after Dhoni thought over he asked him to bowl the 18th over. Again in the finals Bhajji never wanted to bowl the final over. He knew the repurcussions of losing the final and wanted to make a scape goat out of Joginder. Bhajji was certainly scared out of his wits in both the games. I would not say selfish but scared. Guys, you have to give credit to Joginder for agreeing to bowl those last overs in both matches. Remember when sachin and Sehwag were slogging Shoaib Akthar in SA WC 2003, he asked waqar younis to remove himself (akhtar)! Same situation here with our own Bhajji. Despite his off spin credentials, I would prefer a good and unafraid soldier like Joginder. He has his own limitations as a bowler ut thoroughly a team man and unegoistic!

You would have saide exactly opposite of what you have written had misbah hit the ball just few yards away from Shreesanth!!!!
We were lucky enough that the ball went straight to shreesanth, Joginder has no contribution at all in this wkt, it was all from misbah and a dlooy catch by shreesanth.
Joginder still remain useless bowler, especially in ODI's

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA. Throughout the match Joginder bowled short pitch ball on off side. Infact the 1st ball of the ultimate over was a short ball wide of off stump. First learn to watch cricket properly before commenting

aare joginder sharma...don't be happy , that you lived upto u r captain's expectations. India won because of the foolish shot selection of Misbah...other wise India was sure to lost...
Now come and face Australia..., its not like counting money...the government is un-necessarly giving u 21 lakhs..instead they can give it to the flood affected farmers...
Absolute waste of taxpayers money..

He bowled 2 crucial overs in 2 most crucial matches. First v Aus. He bowled 4 dot balls in that last over and 2 of them fetched wkts. Had that been Agarkar, Aussies wud hv won with couple of deliveries left.

Vs Pak, If you had seen that ball which got Misba, you wud hv noticed that Jogi followed Misba to the off-side when he saw Misba was moving towards off-side, there by cramping the batsman for space. Dont u think thats intelligent stuff from the bowler. Misba's poor shot and Jogi's clever bowling both combined to win the match for us. Also, look at his eco rate in the final. Before the final over, he had 3-0-13-0, compared to Bhaji(3-0-36-0) and Sreesanth(4-0-45-1), that spell is match winning one. Jogi mayn't win a match again, but in these two matches he deserved some praise.

Right thing to point out the absolute wastage of public money... but i have reservations about the comment on india's victory... india deserved it much and we got it.. after all, this is cricket and one who plays a folly shall lose the game.. in this case, it's poor Misbah... it was he who brought Pak near to victory and his mistake to select that shot ruined it all.. anyway, India had an upper hand on Pak in the tournament in every area of the game.....

Flintoff must also be paid someting from our rich BCCI.
Afterall it was him who made Yuvraj (our Hanuman ji who didnt remember his real powers)realised his true potential.
The momentum for series win was made in England defeat only.

Mr Pawar has done very good for BCCI.He is given complet free hand to concern persons/Commetee and assigend them job. With his experience BCCI is DEFFIENTLY GROWING.Even currrent and past plyaers and associte organisation/Sates are happy. but pawar has to take care of media and his opposition he should avoid this kind of situation. And again 20-20 cup is just begning.wait and wach pawar will take cricket at rurel areas so more players and cricketing clubs can enjoy.

Piyush Chawala,Joginder Sharma,Yusuf Pathan and Agarkar must be feeling very lucky to have gone to South Africa. They earned over crore of Rupees for doing very littel of any significace in winning the cup.
People may argue that Jiginder Sharma bowled best last over against Australia and again agaist Pakistan in the final but its not true. Both Austarlian batsmen were finding difficult to connect with ball even in previous overs so they just could not score.22 runs in last over was really very difficult.
Against Pakistan spinner doing last overin those conditions was very bad thought.Harbjhan rightly refused. So Joginder was the only choice left as he was the only medium pacer leftin the team.
I think he has got very rich reward for that over not for much of skill but more of a luck.
But will he make to the team again it has to be seen.
One crore for 6 sixes @ Rs 16.25 lac/six is too much an amount.I wish he remains on ground

what do you talk?
jogi has been a outstand bowler. he not only handled the pressure but bowled well. its not true that dhoni had no options. yousu pathan only bowled 1 over for 5 runs was a choice there. again i say jogi is a very good bowler. he went for some runs simply because the opposit batsmen in all matches played first 4-5 overs very carefull and when jogi was introduced he had to be punished. he had 3-4 catches dropped in the first match. second match he captured wickets. in final he again had 2 dropped catches. so donot take the credit out of hi,
well paying too much is not good, i agree

T20 like shoot out
by mohamed kall on Sep 27, 2007 03:44 PM

T20 is just like penalty shoot out in Soccer.
Even the best players miss penalty.
Similarly Australia...missed out here.
Yes We are the world Champions and the first world champions in T20....that is great feeling.

But please do not compare one day cricket or test cricket to T20.
I agree T20 has its beauty but its just a fast paced game aimed at getting more TV viewers than anything else.
In this game even if we loose 4-5 wickets in the first 10 overs, there is nothen to worry, as we have only another 10 over to play out.
But in one day cricket...even if you loose 2-3 wickts in 10 overs the game changes and then you can see some survival batting some shots and some classic shots etc....
T20 is no comparison to Oneday cricket just for the beauty of the game!!!!

Any way whatever we still are the world champions!!!!!!!
and thats a great feeling.
