Why discuss?
by Sanjeev Verma on Sep 28, 2007 08:45 PM  | Hide replies

Why do we need to discuss anything? We will soon know that whether Ganguly is good enough to be in ODI team. We are playing seven games against Australia. If Ganguly does not perform then he should not get chance in ODI games anymore. Gambhir being a left hand opener can be a worthy replacement of Ganguly.

Indian fans behave like jokers. They change their minds and opinions very frequently. After world cup debacle they wanted Sachin's head to be rolled. After sachin peformed well in Ireland and England, they had to eat the shit they threw at Sachin.

Now they are after Ganguly. Your statement is as stupid as a headless chicken. How can u say whether Ganguly is good enough to be in Indian ODI team..? The man who has performed very well since his come, faced battery of fast bowlers from South Africa and also England is not fit to be in one day team...?

Please do not get carried over by T20 success. Fifty over match is a different ball game. We require all three seniors to be present for some more time.

Ganguly should not play against Australia.
by Mat on Sep 28, 2007 04:21 PM  | Hide replies

Ganguly was one of the greatest openers in ODIs we have had.But his performance in 30 matches against Aussies is dismal with average of 22 and his only century was made 7 yrs ago! The Aussies have worked him out,and with his poor fielding and running between the wickets,we would be handicapped. It would be like 10 of us playing against 11 Aussies.
I hope team selection is not based on emotions and past glory.Game has moved on.

this is the only message you have been posting throught out your life. Must be related to Greg Chappel.

What you shd not forget is that DADA inherited captaincy when Indian cricket is in doldrums. He built this team and taught them fighting spirit.
Others inherited this.

You should always consider the above fact, when you speak about Ganguly's captaincy.

Mr Dasgupta,
I hope you agree Ganguly is no where near the form he was in the late 90s. Even during those days ,he never played well against Australia. His average in 30 matches against Australia is 22. He is also handicapped because of his poor fielding and running between the wickets. YET,you choose to push for his inclusion, just based on his average against England which is not even among the best 3 ODI teams. Moreover they were not playing their strike bowlers because of their injuries.
Mate ,we are playing Australia which is the best team by far.
You should think clearly without regional feelings and choose the best possible team or face certain defeat.

AFTER READING ALL THE COMMENTS IN THIS DISCUSSION BOARD....i understand that u should learn the game a bit MORE cricket before u comment. EXPERIENCE IS SOMETHING THAT U NEED TO BEAT THIS Australian side. THIS S NOT A 20/20 MATCH MATE. ITS NOT ONLY GANGULY BUT WE NEED SACHIN , DRAVID AND ZAHEER. U JUST CANNOT BEAT AUSTRALIA WITH A RANJI TROPHY TEAM. AND BY THE WAY MAT, R U RELATED TO MR CHAPELL?

Ganguly had very bad run two years prior to that that is why he was dropped.

His last Century in ODI against good side is way back as 2003 world cup that too against very very strong Kenya not minnows like Australia...lol..

ODI series in England 2007

average wise ganguly is fifth
uthappa 69 Sachin 53.43 Yuvi 40.43 Dravid 37.17 and greatest cricketer of all times Ganguly 36.57

Runs wise Ganguly is third
Sachin 374 Yuvi 283 Gratest cricketer of all times Ganguly 249 Dravid 223

Strike rate wise Greatest cricketer of all times Ganguly is poorest among the above lot.
Uthappa 109.52 Dravid 97.31 Yuvi 86.01 Sachin 85.77 Greatest Dada most eligible batchler for 20-20 strike rate is poorest 73.45

so if we assume Ganguly survives all 50 overs and plays all 300 balls our score will be 219 around. Which match we can win with those scores?

Ifear paceman, you seem to fear ganguly. When you show records show them in proper light. Averages do not matter much my dear. If RP Singh remains couple of times not out, he will have the best average.

Btw, what you have missed is that DADA was the best fifth bowling option for Dravid in England and he bowled beautifully and even better than our main strike bowlers.

Obviously DADA was our best alrounder in England series.

Ganguly says he missed being part of the 20-20 team because they won it?
If this is his exactly what he said,I cant help laughing, because there is no way we would have won those matches if he was there.
It simply shows he is not in touch with reality, and doesnt recognise that he is past his prime especilly in the shorter version where u need quick reflexes, speed between wickets and excellent fielding skills. He should learn from the way our openers were getting singles when runs were difficult to come by initially.I am sure even srikanth missed being in this team!

Dont worry Our Dada will make mincemeat of australian bowling need not worry.

He will directly look into eyes of Brett Lee Tait etc. agressively. They fear Dada. And in mean time Tendulkar Dravid Laxman Uthappa will score runs against them.

As usual bowling will get thrashed but then Ranadeb will come and beat Ponting and others. Ganguly will catch diving. Every thing will be allright. And if these Lee and Tait & company do not get disturbed by Dada's agressive postures we shall keep two cammondos around Dada so they wont show any agression towards Dada. And what for afterall the shirt is he will wave it around. If situation goes beyond control don't worry he is great leader pant is also at his disposal.

If Dada gets into trouble with Hayden or Symonds like strong men still he will use his Super intelligence. He keeps spinach like in Popeye show.in his pocket he will eat it and then zoom...... Hayden or Symonds or anybody are gone with the wind.....

If this thing fails plan B will come into picture. We shall call Australians at Eden Gardens and boo them. If they show finger or any thing we shall call Naxalites to do the job.

plan C We will ask all NDTV Times now cameramans specially bengali journos to edit cut those shots to inspire Indians. Still if the things fail we shall call Boria Mujumdar to Disfigure all stats and show that we have actually won against Australia.

1. As the youngsters are breathing his neck after 20-20 victory
2. In absence of captaincy pressure, Dravid will perform great.
3. Tendu by default will be in the team
4. Ganguly fares poorly in ODIs in fileding, running beteen wickets and rotating strike
5. His big boss Dalmiya is not there to save him

God Dada is nervous as there is every possibility of him thrown out of the team. So making some mad commets.

GOOD BYE GANGULY.
Dada you & your politics,
we thank you for%u2026%u2026
your mediocre innings,
Your fearful batting against pacers,
Your classical skiers hook and pulls against Anderson Brett lee Akhar, Mortaza etc.
Your not out innings against minnows like Kenya, Zim, Bangla Desh to boost averages,
Your sluggish lazy and dangerous running between wickets,
Your running out opponents by just retracting run call.
Shining with bongs on bong channels with help of bong journo's and showing down other good players.
Your fruitless and show piece dives to catch or field the balls,
Your three bounce throws from boundery to wicket keeper,
For showing your Mr. India body to spectators by removing your shirt.and also giving some fresh air to tired players in dressing room.
and all the last four years of your below average performance and effort to stick in team by hook or crook,

It is time for Dada to retire from international cricket as there are lot of youngsters waiting. Among seniors Tendu is definitely a good bat. And Dravid in absence of captaincy pressure is expected to perform better. So 2 seniors in the team is more than enough. Gambhir can replace Ganguly easily with the current form
