Mumbai Cricket offers salvation to Indian Cricket

ndian Cricket's silver lining
17 Sep 2007, Peuters

As the Indian cricket selectors meet on Tuesday to resolve the latest crisis in Indian Cricket - that of selecting the captain of the underperforming Indian team, there is some relief amidst the gloom.

Two Mumbai youngsters - Amit Sholapur Batadawadekar (12) and Salil Paobhajikar (11) - set a world record partnership of 673 runs for the third wicket while playing in the prestigious Ghatikopar Interschools Tournament here today. Both the batsmen from Sharadashram Vidyamandir School - Sachin Tendulkar's alma mater - slaughtered the bowling of the BT Ackeray junior KG team in a manner that brought back memories of their esteemed senior. National Senior selection chief Dilip Vengsarkar gushed: " This was greatness. India's cricketing woes are behind us now. I have never seen a 11 year old play as well against a KG team before. We need to fast track these players into the senior team. I have already talked to Sunny about this". The selection committee meets on Tuesday.

BCCI chief Sharad Pawar and India fast bowling sensation Ajit Agarkar will be in attendance when batatawadekar and paobhajikar play next against the Mulund pre-cubs.

Dravid left India in a lurch, after wining series , just to further personal record.
by sudhir dhar on Sep 18, 2007 04:26 AM  | Hide replies

Selectors have always backed the captain. If the selectors wanted Dravid could have been sacked immediately after the World Cup. There was so much claimer for that, but they did not give in.

It just shows that he wanted to win a series (England) and then move out. It was as if he wanted to prove a point. The Australia tour will be the toughest in recent times, probably he does not want to face failure.

Dravid resigned after expressing his opinion on the selection of the India 'A' team. He wanted a former India opener to be tried out before the away series against Australia.

Which clearly PROVES THAT DRAVID WANTED TO PRESSURISE PAWAR WITH HIS RESIGNATION, THINKING PAWAR/BCCI WILL PLEAD HIM TO RECONSIDER, BUT INSTEAD PAWAR, DID NOT PUT UP WITH DRAVIDS NONSENSE AND SAID-"I respect his decision."

Rest is history.

Sudhir - your analysis skills and ability to jump to a completely off-base conclusion is unparalleled. Get Treatment man!

If Dravid informed the selection committee about having Akash Chopra tied out, then it means that Dravid was totally plugged into the team needs till that point. By all accounts, the mumbai lobby tried to pressurize but were not prepared when Dravid refused to buckle.

Disgusting Indians
by Jim on Sep 18, 2007 03:34 AM  | Hide replies

Hi People,

Here is the state of Indian Cricket today. I just read an article from BCCI on Times of India. It says BCCI feels Dravid left them in a lurch. Those B*st*rds really dont understand what Cricket is. The Selection Committee Chairman comes out to the media and says Dravid should have batted at 3. What the hell was he doing in the Dressing Room in England? Why did he go all the way over there if he was not contributing to the team? Why talk to the press which is a crazy concoction of stupid young MORONS and some c*ck crazy pin headed women?

If that is the way you want to treat your captain, I would not want to be in that position either. Let us assume that there is a CEO doing his job working with the executive board of the company. In a quarter, the company has fallen short on its goals. If the board tells someone like CNBC that the CEO messed up, the firs thing the CEO will do is leave them and ask them find someone else. The reason team meetings are held are for you to express your opinions and work with the rest of the team members to bring them on the same page.

I applaud Dravid for not making any comments about the reason he left. He has just left the thing alone.

Indian ways DISGUST ME.

Stay away Jim, you disgust us too.You may notice, there is a comman thread of bond between your types and Dravid, you guys love to GIVE UP!!

Let me give you a idea about Dravid, when Mohd. Kaif was going through a lean phase, Dravid said nothing to him, but gave him a English book on cricket to read.Kaif grew up in Kanpur, has reading skills for urdu and Hindi, not English.
All he wanted was a Pat on the back and a word of encouragement, but thats Dravid for you. They hate us disgusting Indians, and lick Aussie balls, then lose in the first round, and NOT RESIGN, but when the team needs you, he packs his bag, saying F@#K India, they are disgusting!Way to go Dravid accolytes!!

captain? who?
by sanjay on Sep 17, 2007 07:26 PM

somebody said Dravid is half-maharashtrian (mom) and half-tamil (Dad). Read Vedam Jaishankar's biography of Dravid. Dravid's paternal grandfather was from a place called Tanjore.

A fact is Tajore king was Bhosale a Maharashtrian step brother of sivaji since then lots of Maharashtrians even Brahmins are settled there,

his father Shahaji had Bengluru tumkur area under his helm. He died near Chikmaglur while hunting in an accident. Even Sivaji son was Rajaram was kept in Ginjee fort in Tamilnadu when he was in teens. Aurangzeb was there in Maharashtra to conquer Maratha kingdom for 27 years died there but could not win. The Maratha Genarals kept Prince there for brief period as Mughal's had habit of catching the prince and asking ransom. Generals did not wanted duel responsibility during that period. Generals fought the war against mighty Mughal buried him in Maharashtra reinstated the king Rajaram and went on to conquer Delhi a Mughal kingdom.

In short dont fight over Captaincy a win for team is important with Captain or even without....

Let common sense prevail

Suggestions to Selectors and BCCI jokers
1. Ask Dravid to continue for next important series like Aussies and Pak
2. Do not fall back on ex captains. We have seen enough of them
3. Select a new captain for future may be Dhoni/yuvi etc make him VC
4. Transition captaincy from Dravid to the VC say after 6 months or so when he is ready
5. Give full freedom to Dravid to have his team and drop anybody he wants. Do not interfere in captaincy affairs.

Falling back on ex captains will be the biggest disaster for Indian cricket.
