Why is Agarkar still playing CRICKET!!!
by Kabir D on Sep 17, 2007 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

this guy seems to be enjoying his place in both forms of game immensely, and wonder why?
He is [was] supposed to be an allrounder but hasn't shown anything to that effect?
He was useless in the worldcup [50 overs] and now in 20/20.
The guy seems to have forgotten the BASICS, and looks puzzled on the field all the time - is he puzzled to see himself in the TEAM????

Learning Experience
by prakash mohanasundaram on Sep 17, 2007 06:22 PM

It was a good match yesterday, Indians are getting a hang of Twenty20. Its actually not Chaddi Cricket like what our Expert Navjot Sidhu says. This is fast stuff. There is a difference in approach between T20 and 50 over match. T20 is not just slogging and bane for bowlers. Daniel Vettori showed us yesterday.

Vettori is not a big turner of the ball not can be compared to the likes of Warne, Murali, Kumble,Prasanna, Chandra etc. He has simple but clever variations. We did struggle. T20 does not give you time to settle get your eye in etc etc. You have to score from the word go, so a sound technique is important. Our fast bowlers were not penetrative. They looked dull. Field placements were not great either!!!T20 challenges everyone cos you gotta take quick decisions, if something goes wrong, the time to react and rectify is close to none. Our batsmen (even batsmen from other countries were no better) should go for proper cricket shots than go for slog from ball 1. On the whole this is a learning curve for Team India. It sounds funny cos this is the world cup. But Team India has prepared so well by playing just 1 T20 match prior to T20WC.Even though its 20 overs you need some skill and smartness to win. Cos T20 does not give many chances. We missed a few yesterday. Hope the Team learns from this and hopefully wins the next couple of matches to progress to the next level

Dwar Dhoni, Its 20-20, forget sheet anchor roles
by vaibhav kumar on Sep 17, 2007 06:04 PM  | Hide replies

Surpirsed to see, Dhoni playing a sheet anchor role in game against Newzealand.

There something very terrible with his MINDSET knowadyas. The same attitude was seen with England ondayers and surprisingly, he continued it in 20-20 cricket. This format (20-20) is not made for sheet anchor role specially when you are chasing a mammoth total of 191 (as per indian standards).

We lost the game when Dhoni contended himself with 1 ball 1 run. Had been some hitting by him, the others would have rallied around him.
Very unfortunately, Dhioni was rallying around others to build up his inings.

20-20 is not about playing sheet anchor, its about hitting one hard hit (AT LEAST) one over and then rotate, if needed. That never came in the middle overs, Dhoni keep on playing sheet anchor creating pressure on the other hand, and we lost it.

I beg to differ from Dhoni that bowlers let him down. I think both are equally responsible. Our bowlers are never been good at death. Agarkar (MOST MINDLESS CRICKETER YOU WILL EVER SEE), Sreesanth (MORE IN TANTRUM AND MEDIA HYPE THAN IN DELIVERABLES) and Yuvraj (SHORT IN COFIDENCE BOTH IN BOWLING AND BATTING) were not good enough. Irfan would been still better with his lack of pace. Similarly, KARTHIK is not made for 20-20.

And at last, surprised to see others warming benches. Drop, Sreesanth, Agarkar and Karthik, and bring in Yusuf, Rohit and Joginder.

Remaining matches at Durban, in the evening, with ball siming around, still if I

Vaibhav , the mindset will only change if we pick genuine allrounders . What is happening now if India losing 4 quick wickets, we are in back seat coz no good batting to follow (only the bowlers and JUNK allrounder AGARKAR). SO THE BEST APPROACH IS PICK THE ALLROUNDERS (YOUSUF PATHAN & JOGINDER SHARMA ). Now the players can play freely as there is lot of batting to follow. ALSO A GOOD POINT IS YOUSUF & IRFAN MAY FORM A DEADLY BATTING PARTNERSHIP with their good understanding , as we have seen what 2 brothers can do togather (steve and Mark waugh, Andy and grant flower etc.)

Replace Agarkar and Karthik with Yousuf pathan & Joginder/RP Sharma (depending on pitch).

Twenty 20
by naveen on Sep 17, 2007 06:03 PM  | Hide replies

The best team for twenty20 in batting order

1.Shewag
2.Gambir
3.Uttappa
4.Yusuf pathan
5.Yuvraj
6.Dhoni
7.Irfan pathan
8.Rohit sharma
9.Harbajan
10.Jogindar Sharma
11.R.P.Singh

Dont even keep AGARKAR as 12th man.

It's very important to keep extra bastman in twenty20. 5 regular bowlers will not work in this game. Allrounders are very important!!USE ALL OUR ALLROUNDERS IN THE 11.

Remember... even if we have 8 batsman, Atleast 3 or 4 will end up in single digits. So we have only 4 batsman to score big innings in evry match!

Mr. Dhoni....Dont you know this?????

yes Naveen, very good team indeed with 9 players who can bat (except bhajji and RP). Also Sreesanth may deserve one more chance in place of joginder. But anyway LOOKS PRETTY BALANCED...
