Difficult job difficult decision
by Sudipto Ghosh on Sep 15, 2007 05:02 PM  | Hide replies

Being the captain of the Indian cricket team takes a lot of courage but it takes a lot more to resign from the job and to admit that it affected his batting. This just goes on to prove Dravid's honesty and dedication to the game and to Indian cricket. Hats off to him.
I always admired Dravid for his simplicity and character let alone his exceptional batting. It makes me respect him even more.
I am not sure how the selection committee will go from here on. In my opinion it may not be a good decision not to make a senior player the captain (essentially limiting the choice down to Tendulkar and Ganguly) simply because it would be an added burden on a junior player to be in command in presence of 3 senior players who also happen to be fairly successful ex-captains (and before anyone comments on that, leaving the senior players out of the team is NOT an option because we do not have replacements).
In my personal opinion, the best way to go forward would be to re-instate Ganguly as the captain and have Yuvraj or Dhoni as vice-captain which would give the junior players good experience and would be well mature to take command in a year or two.
I say Ganguly and not Tendulkar because:
1. Tendulkar has come back in form and it is best that he concentrates in his batting (also in the past he has shown reluctance to take over the reins)
2. Ganguly has good experience in that post with good results.
3. Ganguly is one of the senior players and most of the members in the Indian te

CONTD...

3. Ganguly is one of the senior players and most of the members in the Indian team have played under him at some point.
4. Ganguly does not have exemplary batting skills therefore he should not have problems like Tendulkar and Dravid.
5. Ganguly has learnt his lesson when he was stripped of his captaincy and was left out of the team. He would not take things for granted again.
6. In short Ganguly doesn't have much to lose therefore the pressure on him would be much less than on any one else and he would be able to perform better both as a captain and a player.
That was my personal opinion. Open to suggestions but more importantly lets wait and see what the selection committee has to say.
Cheers.

stat proved dravid did good job and most successful odi captain in 2 yrs what ganguly achieved in 5 yrs

dravid is victim of dirty politics 2 excaptian and chief selector stat proved dravid most successful odi captin in 2 yrs he suprassedganguly success of 5 yrs tha t only ganguly media managers and fraustrated fans are happy
ind media has not guts highlight dirty dressing room politics of politici of ganguly and tendulkar
dravid is pillar for ganguly success and suppoted tendulkar when 93% voted against him after WC debacle. both ditched dravid with dirty politics
chappell higlighted the dark side of 2 superstar ex captain and shown door
now dravid forced to resign even after a good job as captain
politician ganguly media hyped captian took the credit of hardwork done by other players while dravid shared credit of victory with his teammates without going to media or spotlight
It is unforunate decision and dravid made vicitm of dressing room dirty politics of 2ex captains of team ind and forced to resign.
dravid as a captain did good job icc had nominated him for captian of yr last year. team won odis and test series without tendulkar and ganguly under dravid's captincy. but 2 ex captains and chief selector never respected or cooperated dravid's captaincy. chappell highlighted the dressing room politics of 2 superstar ex captins and shown door making him scapegoat for WC debacle. now dravid made victim
dravid is most successful odi captin. he did good job as ca

test record
team won historic test series in WI England in won test in SA under dravid captaincy also dravid named by ICC as captain of ICC test team last year stat prove dravid did good job as test and odi captain.
Odi record for ind captains
Test record of ind last 3 capains.
Names       Matches       Won       Lost       Drawn win loss raito

NamesMatches       Won       Lost       Drawn win loss raito

Tendulka25       4       9 12 0.44
Ganguly 49      29      13      15 &nb sp;     1.62
Dravid 25      8       6       11       1.33

In less than 2 yrs dravids achievement as captain praiseworthy but ind media/ex cricters always keep on dravid bashing while no guts highlight the dirty polotics of 2 ex captains tendulkar wants to be captain and ganguly did not want to harm his stat as successful captian. Dravid gave 100%performance when he played under ganguly and tendulkar but betrayed by superstars.
sick tendulakr andpolitician gangauly betryaed dravid and tendulkar want become captian and ganguly did not want harm the stat as successful captian. both are jealous of dravid success as captain and even chief selector never respected or supported dravid as captain.
chappell highlighted the dirty politics of thendulkar and ganguly and kicked out now dravid made victim and forced to resign
what is the?r to selct? when 2ex captains workd so hard to bring down dravid and tendulakr wnated to become captian the dirty politics of 2ex captains were highlighted by chappell and he was shown the door now dravid made vicitm.

Though I am a great fan of Sachin, I feel it would be better if BCCI don't appoint him as the captain because it would mean instead of going forward we are going backward. When we have talented youngsters like Dhoni and Yuvraj we should select one of them as the captain. This the ideal time to groom them especially the 2 series will be played in India itself.I don't think the seniors will have any objection to it, if they have the interest of our team in their hearts.

Give captaincy to Agarkar.....
by Vijay srinivasan on Sep 14, 2007 09:31 PM  | Hide replies

mm..I prefer to give it to Agarkar. Because if you give captaincy to batsman or bowler, it will affect his performance. Agarkar nothing to loose any more.....

guys ,whoever is compairing the BENGALIES with chineese ,i must tell u that u have got a brilliant knoledge about our history and geography.do u know that bengal is the place which has sacrificed the most no of life 4 INDIAN INDIPENDANCE.forget it ,it just shows ur immaturity .lets talk about cricket . when ganguli took d responsibility of INDIAN players that time it was not a team ,REMEMBER D match fixing scandels , all the old faces and indivitual record holders who use to b gelous about each others ,then GANGULY was the person who made it more clean and cristal that is TEAM INDIA , It was his boldness ,support 2 young players ,capability 2 think according 2 the neccesity of d situation , we have started visulising what is WIN and most importantly 4 d first time we have started expecting out of INDIAN TEAM . AS a player i do not like GANGULY , I am a great fan of DRAVID as a player . i think he is the best consistant player in the world . but he is not a good captain . he can not communicate at the right time . he is a good human being and that is reason he cant say NO 2 anybody AND THAT IS WHERE HIS CAPTAINCY is lacking . we should not also forget that fact that GANGULY WAS THE CAPTAIN WHO SUPPORTED dravid as an one day player even by utilising him as wicket keeper in d oneday squard . i think we need a CAPTAIN like GANGULY AND a DEVOTED PLAYER like DRAVID . According 2 me GANGULY , DRAVID and SACHIN r like FATHER , MOTHER And ELDER BROTHER OF OUR FAMILY .we need all 3 of
