A Player and a Gentleman
by indira on Sep 11, 2007 07:53 PM

For today's young cricketers, Sachin is a role model for his dignified conduct on the field. Through out his career he faced a number of bad decisions and never once he showed dissent on the field and on the other hand conducted himself with dignity. He took those decisions without throwing any tantrums. Even in the recent tests and ODIs against England he was done in by the umpire on three or four occasions. But never we saw him throwing his bat or arguing with the umpires, which would be the reaction of any other player other than Sachin. Being in the international cricket for 18 years and to conduct onesefl with such dignity all these years speaks volume of his gentlemanly behaviour on the field. Hats off to you Sachin!

Sachin's batting in this tour reminded me of character "MAXIMUS" in the oscar winner film GLADIATOR.

Sachin fought till the end..without worrying about poor decisions, injury, Pressure which was mounted on him for retirement, high expectations from cricket fans to perform since it could be his last tour,Englands well planned attack and execution againest him,for being a senior cricketer & above all to maintain his own standards.

While it is fact that Waugh reached his peak at 36 (when he retired), how come Sachin at 34 will not be as good as when he was 18? Foreign media is biased.

I strongly feel that Sachin's best is yet to come.

He was also the MVP of 2003 WC where we came up to final. No doubt he is an extra-ordinary player.

I like Powar but he is too out of shape to play, he should shape up nor his bowling is excellent (good maybe). He cannot run between the wickets and is shoddy fielder. Sad but he will have to go.
Harbajan is fit and better than him. Powar is getting wickets as he is new but its easy to read his bowling.

Also time for Ganguly to leave ODI (He is great no doubt) but short balls are his weakness he has to go and his fielding is also not good and has problems running between the wickets. It will be a great loss he is a handy bowler too but even the bite in the bowling has gone. He should be allowed to leave respectfully by giving prior notice, he should be appointed as manager of the Indian side. He is too valuable to go.

Sachin can play for 2-4 more years (max) then BCCI should make him a batting school and make him the Principal.

Dravid too can help Ranji cup youngsters. He can play for 1 more year. Dravid should not be captain.

Kumble has to be told to go around India and pick up 10 top young spinners and train them for 2 years and short list 3.

1.      Sachin
2.      Shewag/ any other youngsters
3.      Gambhir
4.      Uttapa
5.   &nbs p;  Dravid/Kaif/Or any other youngsters
6.      Yuvraj
7.      Dhoni
8.       Zaheer
9.      RP/Munaf
10.      Harbajan/Chawl a
11.      Shreeshant/Irfan

Above team will have only 2-3 senior players rest all are young

Sachin was not playing well earlier. Hence, people wanted him to retire. Now he seems to be playing well, which obviously means that fans would like him to continue.
There is nothing to be apologetic about the earlier opinion voiced by the fans.
Bottomline is that, everyone has to perform. When you perform, no questions will be asked.

No when he was not playing well inexperienced people were hounding him. Now their mouth is shut as Sachin did what he does best.

When Sachin was out of form his average was 34 which is the average of many great players.

The Sachin haters made irreseponsible statements then.

Hi Hitesh,
Try to look at the situation more generously. This is a ruthless game. People have to be respected for their past glory, at the same time, a player has to be gauged on his present class.
I agree, players of lesser stature made comments, which they shouldn't have! But they were just pointing out his dismal form.
I am sure you would agree that his form has improved dramatically over the last couple of months.
Hence, let us give him credit for revitalising his career. Nothing wrong in admitting that he was not in the best of form for some time, earlier this year.

Prakash i am with you. Yes he lost his form but still was scoring not consistently.

People made noise as if we have sacked Mohd Yusuf or Ponting to make way for Sachin.

Frankly i do not see any young talent which can come near Sachin in spite of Sachin being old.

Now people call Sachin old Why? he is a good fielder good running between the wickets and can bat more than 25 overs and bowl 10 overs. Field 50 overs What old and aged we are talking about.
His critics had been baseless thats my point

I do not have any doubt he is the best batsman in the present Indian team. Form is temporary and class is permanent. Sachin was the main architect of our 2003 WC acheivement even thou Ganguly got the credit as captain.
If Tendulkar is in this type of form no way he can be kept out.

Mr Prakash, Accept that people were wrong when they wrote off Sachin so quickly. So you players have to judged based on present class. What was wrong with Sachin during past 2 years, except that he was not scoring as freely as he did earlier but he changed his game due to injury and has become more solid. Inspite of this he performed better than 95% of other players, so what made people think that he is not good enough? Sachin at 50% of his capacity is better than most other players.

Thatz the spirit dear.... everything is coz of the media here..they should get some hot news always... if they start criticising sachin, obviously people listen...the 100 crore indians love him that much...so making comments about him ll get so muych attention...thtz y media is making so much hype on his form n all...i agree he is not playing as he was five yrs back.. ofcourse he is a man, injuries ll affect any cricketer... but with all his problems, he is still the best batsman in the world....i support..form is temporary, class is permanent sir.....
