WHY not Navjot sidhu??
by sandeep kumar on Sep 05, 2007 11:48 AM

What Indian cricket requires is passion. And improved passion means improved fielding(which is indias lack of strenth). Which better person than Sidhu to teach passion. Also, dont forget, his handling of Warne..So, he can teach them to play spin also. India will rule the cricket field with Him as coach. Also dont 4get, his jokes will relieve the tension in dressing room, unlike that serious chappell

dravid never stands up for his mates like dada...even today players like yuvi, sehwag, bhajji, zaheer r willing to do anything for dada...he always supported them and cared for them..dada has built this indian team...all of them also have the highest respect for sachin...and they all know that dravid will never do anything for them...where was dravid when chappell was pulling down sachins pants..he was hiding in his house like a coward...sack dravid NOW

we must agree that chappell was too big a cricketer to fit in as coach....and sachin is undoubtedly a bigger player and person than chappell...dravid was caught in the middle and like a stunned rabbit couldnt move....ganguly being a lesser player was conveniently sidelined..but undoubtedly dravid was shown up as a weak and timid character during that time

we are known as indian team and not individual.
supporting dada or any other it doesnt matter.
matter is, how u are performing and how u support.

before you ask others to shut up--please cite insatnces when team was being insulted--who brought Chappel in--was ganguly also not captain when chappel was around---saving his own skin--so dont act like judge and jury and mind your langauage--you will get it back so hard you will run for cover.

Tension is a good thing within a team, but it needs to be creative, not destructive. John Wright had similar problems at the start but unlike Greg he was prepared to adapt. By the end he [Wright] was more Indian than the Indians," Dravid said in an interview to former England [Images] captain Michael Atherton for The Sunday Telegraph in London.....why is dravid talking now????why was he quiet when his voice was needed..to save his own skin????

you nameless person--i am no Dravid fan either--my comments are replies based on messages which are based on pure rhetoric and no substance--one cant make abstract statements and pass it on as gospel truth--coming back to you--dravid has to save his own skin for what? when was he supposed to have talked? For starters please read the whole interview--also read John wright's book--ok?

What according to Dravid is being Indian.Indian means listening to his pals Sachin and Ganguly and the the BCCI flunkeys. When Chappell tried to infuse new ideas and build a team for the future he was not Indian. He rubbed all the big Daddies including dravid the wrong way.I do not buy this silly conspiracy theory wherein Chappell came out to destroy the Indian cricket team which was so brilliantly put together by Ganguly.Ganguly was plain lucky that he had Dravid firing in the Tests and Harbajan clicking in his early phase. The trick for a good coach is to look ahead and not rest on your laurels.

Whenever dada won a match, it was dravid who always had significant contribution, it was dravid who mediated between wright & ganguly. Wright said in his interview but for dravid, else would have a fight with ganguly. Unlike ganguly, dravid never runs away from the situatiion. Why did ganguly as a captain ran away when he saw fast pitch at Nagpur against Australia. From that day nobody respects ganguly. For selfish reasons, he was the one to dump yuyraj, kaif in test and laxman in one day.

Nincompoop Anant,
Yuvraj, Kaif, Harbhajan, Ghambhir (to name a few) all are staunch followers of Ganguly.

The Board Only Wants! What Will It Give?
by Navaratna S Kiran on Sep 05, 2007 11:33 AM

The article spells all that the BCCI requires from its "Coach". What it does NOT say is that it will provide a transparent environment & processes worthy of a world's largest cricket body. Will provide freedom of selection without regional bias? Will it set up a national player ranking system divided into batsmen, bowlers, keepers & all-rounders so that the coach can simply select the best 15 or 25 from that lot? 2 slots can further be kept open for Board's discretion which must be explained with facts. This seems to be the only solution to bring meritocracy into Indian cricket. It will again be totally transparent since the public & the players can accurately calculate each player's aggregate. This ranking system with weighted averages, etc. must be utilised for all players in India right from club level to international.

But the BCCI will not do that since it will lose its power over players. It is politics at its best. As long as this happens, Indian cricket will suffer. And it will provide opportunities for ICL & other competing avataars. Maybe Vijay Mallya should look at starting another cricket league. What say, Mr.Mallya?

Re:Glen McGrath as bowling coach....
by John Bosco on Sep 05, 2007 11:29 AM  | Hide replies

At this stage what we need is a top bowling coach.I think BCCI could do very well offering this assignment to Glen McGrath.Even a 2 year stint by him can work wonders on India's emerging bowlers like Sreesanth,R.P.Singh,Ishant Sharma,Pankaj Singh,Yo Mahesh,Praveen Kumar etc.I am not including Zaheer as he is at the top of his craft and Agarkar who I think is over the hill.

at the end of it all its like leading a horse to the water but you cant make it drink--same with our players--they have massive egos and dont seem to have acre in the world. The key word here is "attitude"

Re:Coach to be subservient
by John Bosco on Sep 05, 2007 10:59 AM

It is clear the BCCI and the players, vide Dravi's statement want a subservient coach who will listen to what they say.Dravid made this very clear when he said Chappell could not adjust to the Indian way.The Indian way here refers to the BCCI and senior players' way.So the coach will have to be not so high profile and a guy who does not get worked up over the shenanigans of the Board. A person like Chappell who upset everyone in trying changes with an eye on the future cannot be tolerated. So the BCCI will be very careful this time. Some dumb Australian will fit the bill.Instead of worrying about the main coach,it is better we focus on a good bowling coach.Venky Prasad may be good but I doubt his ability to get some real quicks develoed.

Steve Waugh,Allan Border or John Wright
by manjunath salian on Sep 05, 2007 10:49 AM

Currently the Indian Teams are lacking the ability to maintain the consistency which they wre in 03 WC. Steve Waugh& Allan can be the best candidate as he is sucessful in Team leadership and maintaing the performance as well.If we want to set the fire like 03' WC then need to recall the Wright as he had proved and will do the best.
