Time for better treatment of players
by ganesh mali on Sep 01, 2007 10:16 PM  | Hide replies

Its time Boards all over the world treat their respective players well. At least a phone call to a player being dropped explaining the reasons is expected especially in these cases of T20 droppings where the reasons are other than performance - faster paced players are needed.
Most of us work in organisatios doing work which is thousand times easy than the players and still scuff and puff at any mistreatment by our bosses. The players are certainly right in expecting proper treatment.

Andrew Hall is certainly a really good player. I just love this bloke. Not an iota of arrogance when he bowls or gets a wicket. No yelling at umpires or batsmen or any fielder. He is a hardowrking player, who has fighted to keep his place in the team and his improvement is remarkable, he was so mean in batting/bowling when he arrived and now he's so good, gives a message to all those youngsters trying to get a place in any of the teams "you dont have to be born with extra ordinary talent to succeed, work hard to improve and you will get it". And also a team man I remember he coming at no. 10 in a match( greatest ODI match ever played - SA chased 434) although he has come as opener and hit 161 against India in India. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly - great Indian players crying (openly) for batting only in opening positions(even at the cost of the future of Indian team after them-Utthappa,Gambhir). And another great player Dravid crying (again openly) for being asked to wicket keeping.

No wonder Mr. Mali.

Rahul, Sachin and Saurav are Indians like You and Me.

We are a nation of selfish people. And we are a nation of people with great admiration for anything 'White'. Be it girls [Look at all the Matrimonial Columns for 'Gori' Girls] or Balls. Even in Cricket, we prefer White ball and ODI Cricket. So any white player, howsoever mediocre has to be GREAT and any Indian player with fantastic achievements has to be 'Crying' and useless.

So what our players are doing is consistent with our national character.

By the way... I hope you don't cry about workload at office or lack of support or low remuneration etc. I do... Complain like all Indians do!

Mr raj,
may be you have point there, but do u really not think we are more selfish than the goras? If you compare our team with australians or newzealanders,we are known to be more individual oriented. We do whine more than needed and far more than the goras do.That's why we have our team where it is now.So no ammount of rubble rainsing is going to change this fact.As for hall, that guy was shot at point blank range in a mugging incident and fought back to come into the team. That's what commitmment and charecter is all about. So let's salute the guy for what he's done. The point am making is that our guys have shown the commitment too at times, but "at times" only.

Ay.. I think his decision might have been influenced by ICL's uproar. ICL need to raise their head count to 12 International players atleast to host some sort'a spectacle. They got Aloo, Yousuf, Razzaq, Farhat, Lara and Damien so far (did I miss any?). that makes it only 6.

Why not Dhoni. He can play only in India against clubside bowlers.

Seems ..Raju and Ramesh are willing to lead the way after the three musketeers retire. Arent you? You guys are so naive. International Cricket is not a piece'a cake.. Dhoni earned his place in the side. it's foolish to have ppl like you talk nuisance.

Mr. Raju,

Dhoni hit a match-saving 72 not out in the first test at Lords and a blistering 93 at the Oval.
Since when have Lords and Oval become part of India and since when did England become Club sides?

lords is the place where even agarkar got a century! by the way the eng. attack without harmisson, hoggard, johns and flintoff and headed by till now out of team anderson was probably only a notch better than club side attack honestly. having said this, i must admire dhoni for the resolve and character he has shown at lords, despite having very limited quality as a batsman.
