arrey lallu chand rajput you are a manager just DO YOUR JOB dont try to comment on selection tomorrow the players will also be surprized if the team has to drop a non performing sreesanth ..lallu is setting a very bad example by making such crazy comments
aarey lallu when you become selector 10 years later please select dravid at that time dont give dialoges now just to make the headlines
lallu can you compare your cricket with vengasarkar ...do you realize vengy is one of the best batsman of all time and you are doubting his judgement vengy probably scored more runs in one match than what you must have scored in your entire career
and how has dravid performed? - like hes made 10 runs in the entire series on home turf is there anything more disgraceful than that?

hello Mr. Dhosa idli,

U are a perfect ass. Typical southie twister politician...

Again be a little more knowledgeable non selectively, the whole world was surprised by the axing of Ganguly...remember the comments of Geff Boycott?

Even today, millions (except a few souhtie chamchas like u) want Ganguly back as a captain...no body mourns dravid's ouster as a captain. As a player, he should come back after showing his performance and consistency.

One down, Two to go!!
by Sikander on Oct 30, 2007 06:52 PM

I feel bad for Dravid because he is the most unselfish cricketer we have.As another guy wrote, he drops himself in the order for the Team's cause (to increase the run rate), kept wickets during the 2003 WC though he is not a regular Keeper, then left the gloves when Dhoni came in. It would have been much easier for him to score a 80 ball 50 like Ganguly and Tendulkar normally do and get praised for their half centuries in the bargain. However, Dravid took the more risky option of dropping himself down to 5 or 6 and gave youngsetrs like Uthappa, Yuvraj and Karthik a chance. All this is FOR THE TEAM and now the vengeful Vengsarker chucked him out.
In a way I am happy Dravid is dropped because 20-20 or 50 overs IS a young man's game.My complaint is that Ganguly and Tendulkar should also face the same argument and be dropped. Then, no one can complain and we will be building a young, fast and exciting side for WC 2011 as well as keeping the Great batsmen like Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar and Ganguly FRESH for the Tests. This way, India will do well in all three formats of the game.
So,3 different squads for 3 versions is the BEST option.LET US SEE FAIRNESS and CONSISTENCY in selection!!! No partiality PLEASE.
Also, what has been done to Manoj Tiwari and Badrinath is also CRAZY.They were in the sqaud and dropped, WITHOUT a single game????
Do your job properly, Mr.Vengsarker or resign!!
He was a good Batsmen but he is a very poor, vengeful Selector.SHAME!!!!

Give chance for players in form
by on Oct 30, 2007 06:33 PM  | Hide replies

I am the greatest fan of Dravid but I want him to be dropped just because he was not in form. I am sure class is permanent and he will come back. Also that I could not imagine a one day team going to australia without Dravid. My only concern was that the replacement for Dravid (Sehwag) was not a wise decision as he has not hit form yet. A chance for Badrinath would have been the ideal choice as he was in the form of his life for quite sometime now and dropping him from the squad without even giving him a game is not right. Vengsarkar was talking about how he needs to give more opportunities for youngsters even when they falter in their initial attempts. But in reality nothing is happening. He should have backed Badrinath for atleast 5 matches.
he has been in the fringes of selection for atleast 2years and during that period he had been consistent.
For me he would have been a similar (consistent) replacement for Dravid. By no way I am comparing Dravid and Badrinath but they have qualities in similar. I dont find a person in the current squad who is capable of playing on a difficult pitch. Nobody with the skill and mental ability to play on a green-top wicket. I am sure we will be greeted with a greenish wicket in Australia and the selectors do understand that and have person in the team who can handle that situation . A person who we can fall upon during crisis situations. One thing I am sure about is Sehwag has hardly done anything to merit a place in the squad.

Dropping dravid

Everyone is screaming regarding the omission of rahul dravid Just go through the statistics Sourav Ganguly scored runs in an avg of 26 in ODIs just before his omission in 2005 And Dravid scored at an average of 28 in his last 18 ODIs after world cup If Gangulys omission could be justified then why not Dravids? He deserves it Before terming me a Sourav fan Or a Bengali Just search the stats guru in cricinfo

We cannot compare Rahul and Ganguly because both have different jobs on hand. Every team in the world would like to have a Dravid kind(Ponting, Younis, Kallis) of a guy in their team. Just talking about the averages does not say anything we have to see how many times an innings from the batsman has won a match for us and how many times a long innings from the batsmen have resulted in loss for the team. Ganguly is of the past generation and he is not fitting into the way currently one day cricket is played. If he has faced 100 balls in an innings our team should be in a winning position but we have seen n no. of times Ganguly facing more than 100 (sometimes more than 150) deliveries and still India will be in a losing position. His no. of dot balls in a innings is always on the higher side. He not a player of Dravid's mould nor sachin's mould he is just inbetween them and that has caused all the problem. If you see yesterdays match bet SA and Pak Kallis strike rate was very less but he is there to do that job the role of an anchor. But Ganguly's role in the team is more of an attacker and not the anchor role but he is not doing both and that has caused lots of problems for the team. I am the one who supports Dravid's omission but you cannot compare Ganguly(most selfish cricketer in the indian team) with Dravid (the most selfless cricketer ever played for India).

Good story telling Srinath, u will do well in this profession. Also fans like u spread another myth about ganguly that he scores only against minnows just these stats below and never open ur mouth again,
I have consistently seen in this forum that Dravid fans come and spread false and concocted stats and info particularly that Ganguly scores all the runs against minnows, scores slowly and hence his 42 average and 11000 runs. Please see the stats below for performance only against Aus,Eng,S.Africa,W.Indies, Srilanka,Pakistan & New Zealand.
Tendulkar-342matches -11705 runs - 34.22 Average
Ganguly-242 matches -8380 runs -34.62 Average
Dravid-273 matches- 8932 runs - 32.71 Average

This clearly shows that Dravid has benifitted the most from the minnows and to add to that his average against ausssies is just 24 , as aganst 45 of Tendulkar.

Hi Srinath, I dont spread myths but just share genuine stats, though it may be not to your liking. If u have guts please prove that my stats given below are wrong. And i dont even take 15 mins to do that, i need a couple of minutes to do it, there are many sites who will give u this. Unfortunately if i give out the site address rediff will block my message for abuse as they dont want any other site to get popularised.
Atleast the profession of statistician is nothing shameful, u need to be good with numbers.

Who is team player???
by agni putran on Oct 30, 2007 05:46 PM  | Hide replies

i dont understand why sachin who is having a Strike rate of 86 is not considered as team player but dravid who has a strike rate of 70 is a team player..looks funny.
remember dravid was once dropped from ODI side due to his slow batting.

That is because he was not willing to go down the order (but forced to go down the order) when the team needed him to. I am a big fan of Tendulkar but he is not as selfless as Dravid. Dravid will always put team priorities first and not his own.

Selectors view are all based on 20-20 game
by on Oct 30, 2007 05:43 PM

Why many people are arguing in support of the team which won 20-20 world cup? We can just appreciate them but should not compare the victory with the 50 overs game. This is not a one minute game.We have to create stamina to withstand for whole 50 overs with just 10 wickets(6 batsmen) But fall of wickets will not bother 20 overs game because 20 overs will be in just 90 minutes. The players like Dhoni, yuvi, pathan,Uthappa,Rp singh,Gambhir who brought20 -20 world cup were not able to perform better to beat Australians in 50 overs game though Scahin and saurav provided string opening. So Lack of consistency and effiency from young players results in failure. These selectors once were players must have known about the playing conditions of 50 overs match.

seniors game compared with juniors 20-20
by on Oct 30, 2007 05:36 PM

50 overs is quite a different game from this stupid 20-20 game.I am not blaming the game but the way of appproach will be quite different. We had the same players like yuvi, uttappa, gambhir, pathan, dhoni from 20-20 game.so why cant we win against Australians though sachin and saurav provided a strong opening partnership. So youngsters lacks effiency to withstand a longer version of game because that's a real cricet. Not 5 ,10,15 or 20 overs game
