Raina should replace Dada........
by sudhir dhar on Oct 20, 2007 09:31 AM  | Hide replies

Raina's figures are very good....here take a look----
In all, he has scored 612 runs, inclusive of three half-centuries, in 28 ODI innings (5 times not out) at an average of 26.60. He has a strike rate of 72.68.

Dada only has a average of 41.00, at a strike rate of 78.
On top of that Dada has to bat in the 'easy' opening overs, when the ball swings, hence its much 'easy' to play.

I am sure raina should immediately replace Dada.Throw out the stupid old, and bring in the brilliant new.

Hey man opening is the toughest part in cricket, unless u r playing Computer Cricket Games.
The ball is hard and new, bowlers are fresh and more energetic,so are the fielders. The entire outcome of the match depends on the first few overs,so more pressure.Come on Saurav deserves some credit men,,its not that easy.

I think you did not understand his message clearly. He is sarcastic about Raina replacing Ganguly. He is indirectly , saying that Raina has a long way to go to reach the levels of ganguly.

Yea, he is being sarcastic and joking about the difference between youngsters (Raina) and Ganguly (Seniors). He means to say that Raina is not even close to Ganguly's standards. By the way, ganguly strike rate is 73.65 not 78, as you mentioned above.

agreed Ganguly should be replaced with Raina, here the comparison should be on age factor.Never can be said that Raina is better then Ganguly at this stage.Ganguly record is fantabolous.

raina is a good player,he really impressed many when he entered odi cricket but then may be mr,greg chappell messed with his batting order and he became insecure.he was so low in confidence.took so many balls to score a single run, hopefully he is doing good now.its best that he plays a bit more of ranji cricket before reentering odis again.good luck.

Just my opinion..how good was ganguly as captain.
by Hiren Bhavsar on Oct 20, 2007 02:43 AM  | Hide replies

I am not a particular fan or one player or against one..But when everyone keeps fighting about who was better captain of india...I think I have to agree i will rather go with Azharudding or Kapil Dev than ganguly..simple reason..be it purely because of one player like Sachin or occasional good bowling performance--in ODIs we have won matches and even series. We were unbeatable at home and always won cups n trophys in sharjah, srilanka, bangladesh etc..apart from Natwest trophy--i dont remember a single cup won under ganguly..
Ganguly created a big media hype about india being num 2 in the world which was never true..
We lost home series vs WI in 2002, lost badly in NZ right before WC 2003 and lost any other finals we ever played including WI, NZ, AUS, SAF..
we reached the final of WC 2003.. WC was good; purely because of sachin's success as batsman and bowlers doing well...
Ganguly's personal contribution as batsman was the worst in all 7 batsman played every match..that was why he always played extra batsman because he himself never played well except agains Kenya, ZIM, Bangladesh or at the most England occasionally..
THe only success as captain ganguly had was in tests winning 1 test each in ENG and AUS..but as ODI captain i really dont think there was anything special he did..it wa purely the other 10 people's performance and heavily success of sachin/sehwag and zaheer/nehra/agarkar in bowling..

the biggest hype about ODIs was the fact that we did a great tour of A

contd...
the biggest hype of ganguly abt india being no.2 was abt india's tour of aus..actually india has never won a single match vs AUS in ODIs under ganguly except the one game on that vb series..the rest we only beat ZIM to reach final and eventually lost 5 out of 6 mtaches played vs AUS..
my point is everyone babbling about making him captain again; should shut up...as we saw under dravid and dhoni also..captain is only as good as a team..if the team plays well; captain looks good; if team doesnt he is just another person in team..

Yesterday in the first round qualifier india was beaten by 9 wickets.india has crashed out of the world cup 2011,there is nothing much to write about the present inexperienced Indian ODI team.
As usual the openers fell cheaply,,Mohan kumar fell for a nought, while Sujit Charsi was run out for 3 runs. There was a brief partnership between
senior players Rohit Sharma and Robin uthapa,,however after their wickets fell,,the lower middle batsmen Vikram kapoor and Ashok leyland could not handle pressure. while the media blames the squad for in experience,in my opinion it was their responsibilty a few years back,,when Veterans like Sachin.,Saurav and Dravid kept on playing for india,,leaving the youngsters behind or at the benches. The planning should have started after the 2007 world cup debacle.Right now half of the team is on debut and very few people has the right to blame them.Veteran cricket player rahul dravid and saurav ganguly who were there as ESPN commentators did not have any comments.

your concept sucks just like you...

This is international cricket. this is not a place for some youngsters to try and see. This is not circus to try things as you want. this is cricket where only performance matters and nothing else.

Tendulkar was easily able to come into the team when he was 16 even though there were many seniors.

Dravid was easily able to come into the team when he was young. So does ganguly. They never cried seniors have to retire.

Also they came purely on their performance by outclassing the seniors.

Let the current bunch of youngsters do the same or spend their life in the bench.

After 2007 world cup, Sachin has played in 3 ODI series and in all 3 ODI series he is the highest run scorer for India.

Still you guys want him to retire.

What are your concepts guys...To have best Eleven or Worst Eleven.

hey nandu, good yaar.ur broad minded thoughts is a breath of fresh air in rediffmail.com.the entire nation is crying for youngsters, how pathetic.and once their team lose like jokers they revert to the seniors.this has been their cheap mentality since ages.we cant change their attitude no matter what.

Bring in raina in place of ganguly
by sunil swain on Oct 20, 2007 12:23 AM  | Hide replies

Don't think anything else.He is the bright future of indian cricket.Good thing is he plays under pressure situation and is a middle order batsman like steve waugh. You can't expect 98 strike rate from first few matches.Once he will get a century everything will change. That happens in cricket.

Raina was rather a flop in overseas tour of WI (or SA!) V cant go just by the talent. One has to perform with temperament to sharpen his talent.
