New Format of Cricket.
by Venkatesh V on Oct 17, 2007 12:06 PM  | Hide replies

Guys, I have thought of a modification in ODI cricket to make it much more interesting.Just go thru it.

How abt playing ODI's in two sessions of 25 over each just like 2 inning's in test cricket. By making this change the players get a second chance to correct their mistakes and come back into the match at any stage. The curiousity abt the result remains till the end.

One more important thing is that in India people want to watch their star players to bat and bowl most of the time. The above format allows such things even after the first failure and the fans need not switch off their TV once their fav. is out.

It also retains the entertainment of the 20-20 cricket.

This concept was put forward by Australia once. But I do not know why that time this was not considered. This concept is very good. But we should not complicate the game so much also.

If Test matches remain to be uncomplicated then there is no reason why this becomes complicated. It is the same but played in a single day for much more entertainment.

It is really a good idea, certainly it would help improving the ODI cricket, which sometimes get so boring and one sided, like what happened at BARODA.

It is not abt all 40 wickets going down in a day. Its only completing 50 overs in two sessions.

I support your idea, because there are some advantages. Like for instance, if play is possible till the first innings of each team is completed but is washed off later, a winner can be decided on the basis of the first innings performances. Also, if there are conditions like swing, wind, wear and tear of the pitch resulting in help to spinners etc., the effect will become almost the same for both teams.

However, there is another angle to it. Imagine the fate of a player who is in great form and is able to score boundaries and sixes at will in the first innings, but finds himself getting out cheaply in the second outing. Such players will definitely curse the modification, because it may be easier to continue batting and score runs without breaks.

Your thinking on match getting washed out is really good.
Coming to the later part about batsmen in prime form. See, form is one thing which is judged upon a player's performances based on a period of matches. If the break b/w matches do not make a difference on his form then certainly the break b/w two sessions in a sigle day will not.

CHUCK out the Oldies
by Sai Prakash on Oct 17, 2007 11:59 AM  | Hide replies

One thing our countrymen never understand is that Cricket is TEAM game not whether Tendulkar made his 44th 100 or 80th 50. Ganguly made a slow 80 in the last match and the paers will put his photo on the front page in colour but WHAT IS THE USE?? We LOST.All the East Indians will be dancing with joy saying DADA! DADA! but they dont care that INDIA lost. Same thing with Tendulkar making 40 odd, the West Indians will dance again.See, the point I am trying to make is that these INDIVIDUAL milestones are useless if the Team loses.A Symonds making 100 in 80 balls takes his team to victory is PRICELESS.
ANyway, I dounbt we will ever learn.
The solution is sad but good - drop the 3 oldies and have young, energetic blood like at T20 with a attacking, fearless Captain like Dhoni who can manage the youngsters.Only then will we be able to match Aus / SA as the blood will be bold and fearless.Right now I think Dhoni is still in awe of ST/SG/RD and is too scared to say GET OUT to them.We might beat PAk but will never be a match for Aus/SA.Beating SA in Ireland was a fluke. Our young team for the T20 in Mumbai might win though.

@Hard Hitter - think dat u r a fool!!

@Sai- u r right to an extent - in our country individuals r bigger then d team and so if Sachin has got inot top10 rankings that's BIG news and India's losses r negated...d FACT OF D MATTER IS DAT WE R NOT WINNING INSPITE OF D OLDIES, so why have them????...u r right abt Dhoni being in awe of d big 3,in fact he stated dat he let Dravid get in ahead of Utahap in Nagpur ODI only bcoz he was padded up for quite sometime...???? shocking isnt it??

dear hard hitter, you are the fool. What dada ,tendulkar and dravid thinks you know, they say they will go for 4's and sixes don't worry team india or i got 50 odd runs(90 balls) and other fellows so called younger guys didn't take any runs...they will create all the pressure for the middile order and lower middle order batsman.... and one more thing you just watch precisely these three guys, they will never run twos or three as the feelder in the boundry line save the boundry by diving, still they take only singles, all the other team in the world take two or three, there we lost the game....this is the fact....see in the 6th game we are chasing, ganguly has eaten up 117balls for his 84runs,dravid 14balls 6runs,but don't compare yuvraj with he is mega hitter and hard running between the wickets....but australia ,all the guys taken less balls for more runs....

You r right and wrong Sai. Right because it is indeed time for the big three to go out. Wrong because we still don't have the experience that is so important in 50 over and test match formats. Twenty20 is a game of 80% luck and 20% skill. Pls don't swayed by our winning the world cup 20/20 coz 50/50 is a totally different ball game so to speak. But that said, the big 3 have to start planning their exits quickly before they are sadly but quite needfully shown the door in about a couple of months.

Dear Sudarshan,
I am glad that at least you have some brains. Not many of those around nowadays.bangalore the IT city is great.
See, my friend HOW can guys get experience unless they PLAY? So, play the youngster NOW so that we are ready and strong in a year or two.
As far as retirement goes. only Dravid might retire. The other 2 are shameless.
Also, please remember that in the last 20 years only 2 cricketers RETIRED viz. Gavasker and Javagal Srinath. All others were unceremoniously DUMPED.

Sorry guys all those in support of the OLDIES, please remember that if we blood youngsters NOW, we will form a strong team for the next World Cup.If these selfish oldies who look slow on the field and while batting, play for another 2 years as per the Blind, stupidly faithful juntas wishes, we cannot expect the new boys to perform miracles in a short time in the 2011 WC either.
My Team for ODIs would be :

Utthappa
Sehwag
Rohit Sharma
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Karthik
Yusuf
Pathan
Piyush Chawla
RP Singh
Sreesanth

Extras :
Badrinath
Tiwari
Raina

Hi,
Your point is perfect but explanation is wrong.....In last match Symonds batting help AUS to Score maximum but see for winning you must have combination of batting bollowing and fielding.....Sachin saurav played very well but do you think that our bollowing or fielding is good in last few matches.....Do we have stable bowling attack????...Our spinners also failing in home pitch.......so dropping oldies nothing makes sense ...Its true that oldies making runs but India loosing... Every one want that sachin or saurav should make century....but no one looking towards bowlers we are not expecting anything from our bowlers......

Hi,please remember that Indian pitches only favour batsmen and there is nothing in it for bowlers. This same bowling attack did very well in England / SA because there was help for the bowlers. In India/Pakistan/Sharjah the batsmen HAVE to win the game.To score 300 plus our top order have to score at more than a run a ball, so though the openers made 140, they did not accelerate enough.Aus in the same position would have been 140 for no loss in about 20 overs.

Let us be realistic in our expectation from our bowlers. I think that our bowlers have done exceptionally well in this series to restrict Australia to not more than 318 in any innings. Let us not forget that Australia made 434 in South Africa against South Africa boasting of far better bowlers like Pollock, Ntini, Nel, Hall, Kallis etc.

Honestly, it is a combination of crucial (wanton?) batting failures, inability of oldies to score a few more runs by running quick singles, failure of Dhoni to change batting order as per match situation (in the last match Dravid could have come at No.3 because sending Irfan made no difference. Otherwise, because a left hander i.e. Ganguly was at the crease and a right hander i.e. Tendulkar had left, it should have been either Dhoni or Uthappa who should have come at No.3 to see if they could speed up the scoring)which cost us the match in Nagpur.

You are right in a way.The original Indians were Dravidians (Tamilians)All North Indians were cross products of Aryans and foreign invaders. No need to convert to Christianity though.Hinduism is the most tolerant and intelligent religion, where we can question and not follow rituals blindly.
