aggresion???
by manish.kapur@yahoo.co.in on Oct 10, 2007 09:05 PM

Agree with this line 100%
" you guys have the richest administration and the biggest talent bank in the world of cricket; once your talented youth receives the opportunities it needs, and you galvanize as a group, the world can be your oyster."

but about the rest of the article ...You must have read that sreesanth wanted to be in the entertainment business before cricket. And also that the cricket stars in India are bigger than the bollywood stars so dont go by their antcis -they are just playing to the galleries. Except the jelly bean incident everything else was just show business and a successful one too. I can see that the Aussies are confused infact to such an extent that they are conducting lessons in aggresion in their press conferences.

Hi Gavin,

Are you trying to get a coaches job with Indian Cricket team. Dont think you can impress BBCI with this article.

The Aussied are already annoyed . They are already searching the cause of their failure. Hope they find the reason

Now Aussies need Indian coaches :D It seems that Aussies are really annoyed after these defeats. Our coaches teach them how to behave when they loose.

THIS WRITE UP SHOWS INDIAN ATTITUDE IS GETTING UNDER THE AUSSIE SKIN. IF NOT WHY IS PONTING COMING OUT WITH STATEMENTS AGAINST SRISANTH AND CO EVERY DAY?.

BY NOW THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT A SHOW PUT UP BY INDIA, THIS IS WHAT THE NEW GENERATION INDIA IS. MAY BE PONTING IS THINKING ABOUT INDIA WITH AZHARUDDIN AND PARTY.

Nonsense. If we start beating the aussies then we can say that indians are getting under their skin. We lost the first two games and won the third one because aussies made tactical mistakes like not giving the last over, dropping in form haddin while retaining out of form hodge.
All teams have tried to get the aussies at their own game, no one has suceeded. Aussies have been champions for the last 7 years.

SO WHAT THEY WON'T BE ANY MORE. THEY STARTED THEIR TREK TO SUPERSTARDOM FROM INDIA 1986-1987. THEY WILL START THEIR DOWNFALL AGAIN FROM HERE. Remember even Zimbs beat them at 20/20.

It is difficult to come out of ones inferiority complex than playing cricket I suppose. Australia is no great shakes. It was just that opponents could not find their soft spot. That was amply proved yesterday. They crumble under pressure and tight bowling. If we win the toss tomarrow India will win again for sure.

It is Working
by Jim on Oct 10, 2007 07:31 PM

Let us look at Human Psychology. Actually Gavin is wrong. Aussies are like your school bully. They are always thinking they are on top as long as no one challenges them. Once you actually challenge the bully, he buckles. He really does not want a fight, he likes it when everyone leaves him alone. He loves it when people just are intimidated by his talk.

All we need to do is keep up the chat. We continue to talk trash to these guys and keep them on the edge. Yes, we should do it smartly. Sreesanth has shown that he wants to do it. He has delivered against them so, they are wary of the guy. So, now the bully knows that if Sreesanth delivers a couple more times against these guys, they are going to be in for a fight.

The psychology on their parts is their fear that one day there will be someone that will scream and also deliver. What Sreesanth did in the T20 game definetely got under their skin. If he just delivers a couple more times, it will shut the guys up for a very long time because now there is an element of doubt created in their minds as well.

Doubt creation is the main requirement of sledging. I tell you you are crap and I prove it to you by getting you out a couple of times. If Sreesanth gets a couple of Aussies especially Hayden and Ponting a couple of times, we are in for a fantanstic Winter.

Gavin also wants to create the doubt because he ends the article with "if your young talent gets a chance". We know you Gavin, you are a moron.

Trash talking is an art. Why on earth do we want to pay attention to what Gavin wants to say? This guy has been a moron for a long time anyways. There are a few points to note here:

1. When Gavin says "talking back only inspires the Aussies", he is again throwing the gauntlet back at the Indian guys. THis is meant to be another barage to create doubts in the minds of people that are actually doing the talking!

2. You could walk out there with ear plugs or just try to ignore these guys. But, by talking back to them and pushing them you are getting under their skin for sure. Everytime Sreesanth talked back to Symonds, he tried something stupid. Reality is, Sreesanth got Symonds out in both the games.

3. I agree that you want to ignore the guys but, if you can make it fun, why not go after them? Afterall what we are trying to do is get into their minds.

4. When Gavin says they are masters at sledging he is again telling us what they are GREAT at. Again telling the guys who read that Indians may not be too good at it. Why on earth are you reacting if this has not effected your team Gavin?

5. SA have always done the weird thing against the Aussies. They have tried to go at them too aggressively leaving themselves open. The first two games even though lost, were not really a disaster. The talk had its effect. Let me explain in the next post.

Sledging is not Aussies' patent
by dilip nenmelil on Oct 10, 2007 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

Hi Gavin,

I felt like laughing after reading your article.A spinner who was taken apart in most of his matches by the brilliant indian batting talking big things about something unknown to him.
Whenever Gavin walked out to bowl, Tendulkar and at times Sidhu were out of theie creases to put the bowl out of their park.It was an open invitation like.
So when you talk big things i assume the person have the pedigree to do that. But not you Gavin.

Then about Australian's,the whole world knows that Australia are the worst behaved team on the field. And when the Indians mimiced them for once why to get upset with that.Fox Sports says this is indecent cricket.I want to ask you do any of the Aussies know what is decent cricket??

So no more comments on these article which is just a result of a frustrated mind.

Dilip

That was kinda rude to Gavin, Dear Dilip.
Gavin may not have achieved what Warne achieved but he has a very valid point in his article.

You and probably most of the readers who commented to this article have not quite understood what Gavin is saying.

What he means is this ...

Sledge and by all means irritate the opposition but only to buckle him and not to strengthen him.

We may be matching the Aussies vocally but as of now, we are not quite matching them in performance.

See, in the first 4 ODI's, we can see the huge diff. in the performance of the two teams in similar situations ... their opening vs our opening; their target defending ability vs ours; their ability to come back and to sustain an onslaught of Yuvraj vs our ability to stop Michael Clark.

I am not being pessimistic about India.
I know Indians are slowly getting under the skins of Aussies and it is showing.

I also believe that it was Ponting and Symonds who started the fire and r now running rather annoyed and startled atfer India's refusal to give up.

The 5th ODI will be a crucial one, not just from the series point of view but also from a long term point of view ....... if India wins it, it will surely put Aussies under a lot of pressure since it was Ponting who had said that he intends to win every match in the Future Cup but then wud have squandered a 2-0 lead.

However, the point here is winning and leaving the Aussies smarting after defeat.

Sleding shud get to the mind of opposition and not ur own

My point was not that India should continue sledging and lose their concentration on the game. What i meant was Australia got a taste of their own medicine. For that they shouldn't blame India. This is what they have been doing for years.Gleen mcgrath regarded as the best bowler never knew how to behave on the field, and so if some one speaks about decency on the ground i can't stand that.He was not even once reprimanded for that.
Then, these are pressure tactics from the australian press to take India away from what their real duty is.So we shouldn't fall for these sort of silly allegations made against us.Take the bull by its horns...

There is no written rule on how to sledge, whatever way its done,it remains as sledging regardless of the race...

and the fact remains that we have taken up sledging as a permanent task but rather as a transient thing esp. against the Aussies. But the Aussies have been doing it since long and against every team, so they ought to know more about it, its advantages and its pitfalls.

Its always better to play to ur own strenghts and to exploit ur opposition's weaknesses.

Sresanth shud sledge and he shud get under the Aussies skin as much as he wants, but some of his antics have been rather stupid and in poor taste ... taking a 3 wicket haul for 56 is not a good proof of u sledging being a success ... but dropping a lollypop catch of ur own bowling isa sure sign of ur own sledging getting to u and putting u urself under pressure.

A true sledge keeps himself free of all pressure and gives it to the opposition; clenching fists and tuttering teeth and loud screms etc will only put the doer under pressure, not the watcher will be more bemused and happy than feeling sledged ........

Things to learn from Gavin
by Raghu on Oct 10, 2007 06:25 PM  | Hide replies

Contrary to what many may feel about this article - i think it has given a lot of insight into the mindset of a typical aussie.
1. they are good in doing their job
2. they know it
3. they also know many others (other teams) are good in their job
4. they always want to win
5. how to do it?
6. start by bullying the opponent.. if he falls for the trap then they win, else my friends - the aussies are down and out..

because they dont have an answer when the opponent does not buy their bait..
so, all our young indian players need to read this article and start concentrating on their strenghts and natural game - that is aggression and fighting fire with fire... that is the only way to win against the aussies.
getting into verbal & physical conflicts is not aggression - it is only going to make the aussies stronger cuz they are going to have the last laugh if our players continue to do that..

This is our problem. We accept whatever is said and done by others. There is no rule book for sledging. So Australians shouldn't teach us how to do it.

Do u think that Gavin Robertson want India to become really gud.So do you think he'll advice India to do the right things...Try to understand their tactics and not support each and everything they say.Come out of slavery,we are independent mate...
