Opening Stand made the difference
by Kprabal on Oct 10, 2007 02:31 PM

Those who feel that the India played slowly in the beginning should look at the score of Australia in the first three matches.

In the 1st match Aus scored 100 in 19.1 over
In the 2nd match Aus scored 100 in 22 overs
In the 3nd match Aus scored 100 in 17.4 overs

In each of the three innings Australia scored more than 290.

India scored 100 in 21.1 overs which is at par with the Aussies.

Therefore India's start was as good as the Aussies except probably the 3rd match. And that is how a ODI innings should be built. Scoring at rate of 4.8 -5 for the first 23 to 25 overs keeping wickets in hand will provide a good platform for the lower order batsman to capitalize and accelerate.

Those who can not differentiate between 20:20 & 50:50 match would never understand this.

Give A Chance - That is Pathetic
by Ramelton Pandya on Oct 09, 2007 07:33 PM

One has to earn and not beg. Tell all these youngsters to play better than Sachin Sourav and Dravid and get into the team in their own right. Not by begging " Give me a chance "

The trio came into the team only because each one of them was better than the existing players. They did not come in because they were young neither did they beg for a chance.

Will you all ask your boss to fire you so that young graduates get a "Chance" to prove themselves in your job? If anyone has the balls to say an honest yes, then go on, comment about seniors and juniors, but only after resigning from your job. Put your money where your mouth is.

India is fearful
by kumar on Oct 09, 2007 06:45 PM  | Hide replies

In selecting teams for one-dayers, Indian selectors continues to be fearful. This attitude will never make our team champions of the 50 over version.

These selectors just too a chance by sending a young team to 20-20 and the fearless attitude of a young team made us 20-20 champions.

We need to show similar attitude in 50 over version. We may lose a few matches initially but the boys will catch up and settle down.
Chappel always advocated this policy but he was made a scapegoat for everything that went wrong.

Agreed Sachin, Dravid and Saurav are good players but we need to groom youngsters by throwing them in front of good team and they will eventually learn to win.

No point in hiding behing old players who anyway do not contribute much to our winnings in one-dayers. They are however useful for test cricket which is not too demanding physically so they can continue playing.

Until Indian selectors become fearless by handing the charge to youngsters, BCCI team will never be one-day champions.

Vengsarker therefore is not far off the mark nor did he say something wrong at all.

A good win, but there is a lot to be done. And for those poeple who think that sachin and ganguly played slowly -- guys you do not have the knowledge of cricket. The conditions were tough and they had a game plan, which they followed right till the end. The only thing now is to make sure that Aussies do not get good starts while they are batting.

knowledge of cricket. hmm.. you seem to have plenty. i would say india got away with the slow innings of tendulkar. tendulkar and ganguly, their contribution was 120 runs from 30 0vers approximately(29.4 overs). dont expect others to score 171 runs from 20 overs in every match. india escaped bcos australia gave 39 extras which is something uunacceptable in oneday cricket.

Shut your Mouth
by Desi on Oct 08, 2007 11:22 PM

Vengsarkar, If you are reading this please SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Why do you feel the necessity to express your views in the Media? if you do not perform you perish. Don't you think the intended players against who you commented know this? Very rightly you dropped Agarkar after the t20 WC. Everybody knows it. No need to announce to the press your intentions.
You forced Dravid to resign with your public utterances. Please stop this nonsense and take your actions when you meet with your committee not in the Media.
If you keep on commenting like this, we will all start questioning why you sat out the 1987 WC semifinal against England? (http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65116.html) Was the match fixed? How much did you receive? See how easy it is to question one's credentials. If you REALLY have to talk to the media offer constructive criticism!

Only very recently Dravid won MOM in England. His stirke rate much better than Ganguly. If you have any knowledge of cricket Sourab is never considered world class but Dravid is . You should ask Nasser Hussain, Lara, Richards, Warne, Lee , Miandad, IMRAN etc. Undoubtedly Ganguly is a good player but Dravid is adifferent class and no one gave trouble to Ganguly during his captaincy. Dravid had to face all sorts of problems starting from parliamentarians . But for Dravid Indian team team would have crumbled. He is having a good successor

SACHIN CRAFTED HIS INNINGS FOR INDIA
by NITIN RAJ on Oct 08, 2007 08:18 PM

SACHIN PLAYED SLOW AGREED ! BUT GUYS IT LAID THE PLATFORM FOR DHONI AND ROBIN TO GO FOR THE ONSLAUGHT. NOBODY GIVES CREDIT TO THE MAN WHO CONTROLS THE WHOLE INNINGS. EVERYBODY GIVES CREDIT TO THE BATSMEN WHO HIT FOURS AND SIXES DURING THE END OF THE INNINGS. THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO EVALUATE THE GAME OF CRICKET.
PONTING , HAYDEN, SYMONDS WERE ALL EXPERIENCED BUT THEN WHY DID THEY CHUCK THEIR WICKETS ??? SO DON'T TALK LIKE FOOLS. GIVE CREDIT TO THE GUY WHO HAS SPENT 18 YEARS FOR INDIAN CRICKET.

Sachin is too experienced
by Crick fan on Oct 08, 2007 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

He played the way he could and the way possible for him. He knew that even if its is slow the other team batsman would get restless / pressurised and score fast.
Sachin is culprit in this match. I am not buying anything he is endorcing and seeing any more matches he is going to play.

Sachin is waste now, in the fourth ODI he played very slow and wasted so many balls, and india reached only 291 which is very easily chaseable by Australia. Mr. Sachin PLAY otherwise QUIT

I don't agree with you. Sachin had very good series in England recently. He gave us a quick good start against England that helped us to fight back in the series. I think, itwas Dhoni's strategy to keep wickets till end and score quick runs in the last 10 overs. Dhoni recently said that in an interview. So, I think Sachin and Saurav were only playing according to the game plan. You guys are sick talking about Sachin/Saurav.

even if you go by the recent records (barring T20) sachin innings have been instrumental in india's victory..so stop fooling around...sachin even at his 50% is far better than anyone...talking about raina and paarthiv who are performing very well in domestic circuit..well i could only say whenver ramesh powar and agarkar plays for their domestic side they seem to score more runs and take more wickets than anyone...

This is a reply to the CRICKET FAN(so called)!!
It doesn't matter whether u buy it or not, afterall who are u in the cricket world??
How many ODIs or tests have u played to comment on a Maestro like Sachin??
Had u been having the least hint or knowledge aboubt what was going on, u would have bought it. 152km/hr was the speed of Brett lee's today morning. Many other batters wouldn't have seen the ball, forget surviving.
Cricket Fan!!! If Sachin's anchoring innings wasn't there, Indian would've been shrivelling up for 120-8 or something like that. So, try to know what the game is first of all.
And your thoughts - MY FOOT, WHO CARES AFTER ALL?
