yuvraj did his bit today! so much for the aussie plan to counter yuvi. it was good to see ponting get out. it was marginal, and his foot was indeed on the line, and not behind. let him grumble all eternity!

Aussies to counter 'Big Three'
by y on Oct 08, 2007 10:09 AM

Actually Ricky Ponting and his merry men need not do anything, the 'Big Three' will gift away their wickets. They are in all likelihood upset at having missed out on the sum of Rs 1 crore doled out by the BCCI. On the other hand, the other guys are only to happy with their windfall earnings to make an impact.

The gross divide between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is summed up in these shocking statistics:

Life expectancy: 20 years shorter than for non-Indigenous Australians and the gap is widening.

Infant mortality: Three times higher than for non-Indigenous Australians.

Health spending: Commonwealth spending 26% less per capita for Indigenous Australians.

Unemployment: 23% in 2002 (compared with an official rate of 6% for non-Indigenous Australians %u2014 the lowest since the 1960s).

Education: Fewer than 36% of Indigenous youth completed all secondary schooling compared with 73% of all Australian youth in 1998.

Housing: Only 30% of Indigenous families are buying their home compared to 70% of non-Indigenous families.

Imprisonment: Nationally, the Indigenous rate of imprisonment is approximately 15 times that of the non-Indigenous population.
This parallels the sustained relative privilege of Australians compared to the much poorer majority of the world%u2019s population. Today, Australia has the seventh highest average income in the world. Australians are part of the one-fifth of the world%u2019s population that gets 70% of world income.

Until these inequalities and the systematic exploitation that maintain them are eradicated, predominantly white Australia will be plagued by the underlying racism that many are so deeply ashamed of today. We don%u2019t need to swim in guilt but we need to fight injustice.

STUPID AUSTRALIANS
by Amarpreet Dhaliwal on Oct 08, 2007 07:17 AM

When I wrote about the Indians who felt shut out of Australian cricket, I was taken to task for "inventing" trouble where none existed. Yet I'd seen racism with my own eyes. On a tour to India, I heard two Australian cricketers call the locals "niggers". I saw Australian cricketers coming across Indians sleeping on a railway platform in Jamshedpur and nudging them awake with their feet in order to take a happy snap.(http://sport.guardian.co.uk/cricket/story/0,10069,878108,00.html written by Malcolm Knox is a former chief cricket correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald and is the author of the novel Summerland, published in the UK by Picador)

way to go sreesanth
by Amarpreet Dhaliwal on Oct 08, 2007 06:48 AM  | Hide replies

Whatever Sreesanth does must be seen in the context of what the Aussies have been doing all these years. Now that it is being done to them, they can%u2019t say that if others must be aggressive, please be aggressive in a way that we can deal with. That%u2019s like saying please prepare hard bouncy wickets when we come to India, not spinning tracks because we can%u2019t cope with spinners. But just as each side has the right to decide what sort of wickets to prepare, each side also has the right to choose its own form of verbal aggression and attack. Ian Botham once held his wrists aloft and together to indicate handcuffs. The idea was to tell the Aussies they were all convicts. The Aussie media went wild with rage.
If the Indian team and Sreesanth have chosen their form of aggression, India should support them, not endorse calls to drop Sreesanth saying he is %u201Cover the top%u201D and so on. Isn%u2019t mother-sister-wife abuse over the top? Why are the stump mikes muted? Why can%u2019t we hear what the Aussies say? As he took guard once, Rodney Marsh asked Ian Botham: %u201CSo how%u2019s your wife and my kids?%u201D Ian Healy once told Arjuna Ranatunga, who asked for a runner: %u201CYou don%u2019t get a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat c**t.%u201D
Should Sreesanth be punished merely because he makes faces, which is all pretty much what he does? Has he ever been accused of abusing the batsman? From all accounts, he is a very nice fellow, except when,he has to

Amarpreet no body intrested in gunning for Sri if he performs.Purely cricketing, Last 2 matches he is u r main stike bowler, gives away too many runs in the first spell Takes pressure off batsmen, puts pressure on other bowlers. At the end of it to add insult to injury does not even complete qutoa of 10 overs can we have this luxury against Aussies? They can be convicts worst human beings etc. etc accept that they out batted us bowled better fielded better so far It is not fair to discuss ethinicity color race in a game

Ricky's talk's against a Rahul dravid would not have affected at all
by sunil swain on Oct 08, 2007 05:39 AM

You ricky came to india at a time when we had a change in captainship.Otherwise you would have tasted like 2001 with some heroics from bhaji and Laxman. You can refresh your scores with one of the victims of bhaji's hat trick. Now nothing is on place, even players didn't have rest after the world cup.You should feel yourself lucky.Who knows nothing is granted in cricket. Our big guns like rahul dravid and young guys may make merry in the remaining matches??

Be extra careful RICKY??????
