THey should rest ganguly/dravid against AUS
by Hiren Bhavsar on Oct 04, 2007 12:50 PM

I think they should rest ganguly first and then dravid in AUS series as they dont have a very good record against them anyways..SAchin has the best record of most international players in history vs AUS so he should play in all games..in future they should rest sachin/dravid vs PAK and subsequently Ganguly/Sachin in tri-series in AUS..what do u say guys

Severe criticism

Sreesanth's histrionics had come in for severe criticism in England where he shoved into the non-striker (Michael Vaughan) on intent, bowled a beamer at Kevin Pietersen and than ran through the crease to bowl Paul Collingwood a sharp bouncer from round the wicket in one afternoon at Trent Bridge.

So perturbed was the Indian team management with the fast bowler's churlish behaviour that Rahul Dravid pulled him up and before the start of The Oval Test, he handed over letters to all his players asking them to conduct themselves properly on the field.

But that was not the only time that Dravid had to reprimand Sreesanth there were other discipline-related incidents where the captain had to step in.

Much before he twirled his bat in the air and did a pelvic thrust a la Prabhu Deva after he was spurred by Andre Nel, Sreesanth had managed to get under the skin of some of his teammates during a domestic tournament in September last year. In a game during the Challenger Series, Sreesanth went past Sachin Tendulkar's bat twice and then did what no other bowler has had the guts the do for a long time - he had his hands on his hips and stared hard at Tendulkar.

The little master didn't like it and he made it obvious on the next delivery when he stepped out to clatter the bowler over his head for a six.

Tendulkar walked down the pitch, tapping it and told Sreesanth firmly, "Don't you ever come close to me again."

n the same match, Virender Sehwag protested with the umpires after Sreesanth asked him why he didn't play so well in international cricket after the latter had hit him for a couple of fours.

Incidentally, Lalchand Rajput was the coach of India Reds, the side Sreesanth was playing for and he read out the riot act to the bowler for "messing around with dangerous players."

there is nothing wrong in being aggressive and also acting on the field..but sreesanth needs to understand he needs to back it up first by performance..right now; he is performing no better than what agarkar used to..take a wkt or two and give away so many runs..
I would love to see him take 2-3 wkts for less than 55 runs--then do whatever he does..
the way he acted after symonds wkt as if he did something great..he had alreayd scored 87 and at that stage it proved no real benefit for india as they anyways scored 300 eventually..
he should learn when to show his acting skills.

Sreesanth has been a habitual offender and some say it is about time he visited the nearest psychiatrist.

"The only bit of counselling he needs," said Dalwai, "is that to make sure his behaviour does not affect his performance. For that the need is to channelise his aggression rather than waste it on irrelevant things like mouthing abuses at the batsman. Right now it is just antics."

Giving example he said, "Andrew Symonds and Adam Gilchrist are aggressive characters but they make it count in their cricket.

Or Zaheer Khan after the 'jellybean incident' where he used his anger to the team's benefit.

"There's no need of 'Public Display of Aggression' like what Sreesanth is doing. If everyone starts behaving that way then we'll end up with 11 gorillas on the field."

Sreesanth needs to channelise his aggression
by mohammad imran on Oct 04, 2007 12:42 PM

"Sometimes", said John Arlott,"I think we are in danger of taking sport too seriously, and life not seriously enough". S Sreesanth can probably benefit from the great commentator's wisdom - that is if he takes time off from his theatrics.

The medium-pacer's boorish conduct in the last game against Australia at Kochi isn't an isolated incident.

In fact, his on-field eccentricity has overshadowed whatever little he has achieved in his short career so far and there is a lurking danger that he might end up on a psychiatrist's table if not in the casualty ward of a hospital.

Noted psychologist Dr Samir Dalwai put things in perspective when asked to describe Sreesanth's Jekyll and Hyde mannerisms which is fast becoming a national shame after the incidents at Kochi where amongst other things he ran out Australian batsman Andrew Symonds off a dead ball and then argued with the umpire to get the decision in his favour.

Said Dalwai, "Sreesanth with a ball in his hand is in a state of disinhibition. He is least bothered about the decorum."

"He is someone who believes in externalising his emotions unlike a Rahul Dravid who is known to internalise his feelings. The right behavioural pattern lies between these two extremes."

Dalwai couldn't have given better examples to illustrate his point. But Sreesanth is someone who has always walked the thin line regardless of the consequences.

Australians started this verbal bullying on field.. now they are getting it, it is suddenly not good. English are followers of Aussies as well.. they have innovated further and promoted to using jelly beans.
So Sree, play well.. and give it to them as much as you get as well. An occasional fine is fine!! Anyway, its is Indians money that cricket as sport is maintained.

Some guys keep their mouth shut when a so-called aggressive Andrew Nel, Brett Lee, or even McGrath fires verbal abuses at our batsmen... When a naturally aggressive fast bowler from this country does something of that sort, all climbs on his head and critisise him like anything. What a pity!
Sreesanth has to definitely improve his on-field behaviour..thats true. It doesnt mean that he is like a monkey in the zoo after the match. Everything ends after the final ball is delivered... thats it!

people who have never played crick in their life and the self proclaimed expert are unnecessarly going over board on this. if you have seen him bowling or atleast remember the very rescent history they wont have made these stupid comments. Can you tell me how India won the 1st ever test in SA? Can you tell me who backed up Zaheer in Eng? Can you tell me whose spelkl it was which decided the fate of T20 semis? You should be knowing the answers if you really know cricket and especially bowling.

If it was not his spell in T20, the result would have been different in semis. Aussies knows that and they just cant diggest the fact that a new kid on the block has spoiled the party. If Aussies are going after him [verbally and on the field] it just shows how much of an effect Sree has made in them . They also knows he is a real threat and only way to counter is to make him mentally vary. And they do have people like you who still has this fascination and inferior complex towards white skin. Aussies knew that they just have to put a spark and guys like you will blew it big- even if its against your own country men. think twice before jumping into the bandwagon.

Sreesanth is an outstanding fast-bowling talent, capable of genuine pace and controlled swing, and despite his antics there's grudging respect for him in the Australian camp.
