It is easy to recover from a big loss.
But very difficult to overcome the demoralizing effect that comes when a certain victory is deprived. First ODI was in their hands after great effort, but rain frustrated the already frustrated souls further. It makes them much more desperate, and affects their performance.

Same fate with Pakis, it was ok if they lost by 30 runs, but losing by 5 runs will haunt them all their lives and they will remember that they are chokers everytime they face crunch situation

Saurav's fitness.
by Raam on Oct 01, 2007 02:30 PM  | Hide replies

I am really surprised to find the physical fitness of two of our senior players- Saurav Gangulli and Virender Sehwag. Sehwag playing 20-20 Cup tornament in South Africa pulled his leg muscle to be out of Final Match. What was more surprising was Gangulli's injury in the very first hour of a match which he played after about a month's complete rest! These players should not be considered for ODI and 20-20 matches. They are totally unfir for such formats. On the otherhand Dhoni inspite of having pain on the back which he suffered during batting and wicket keeping he came back strongly and immediately. That is youth and fitness. Let us have only those players in the team who are 100% fit.

AUSTRALIA'S RESERGENCE IN 1ST ODI: BEST THING HAPPENED TO DHONI AS A CAPTAIN
by vaibhav kumar on Oct 01, 2007 01:56 PM  | Hide replies

I think it was a blessing in disguise for Dhoni to lead team India versus a resurgent Australian outfit.

The way Aussies foght back with a miserable position to a nearly match winning position, will be a good opening encouter for Dhoni as 50-50 captain. He started well as a captain and team responsed but Aussies tought him and the team INDIA that you can not even give an inch to this opposition.

I do not want to state that whether it was Aussies who played admirably, or it was Dhoni's handling the situation which helped Aussies to revive and recover, but I felt that it was the best thing happened to Dhoni to see the way Aussies have shown conviction and resurgence. Probably as a captain he would like to see himself and his team do play with this die-hard conviction and sprit and be more thoughtful in not allow to snick in complecent body language within the team.

In Dhoni, we may see someone who learns and learns quickly (I fear calling him as cool and calm dude, I would love to see that he controls his nerves better in critical situations of the game)and executes the finishing puch with his boys.

cheers

Some people only remember how rival team players fought back and shower all kinds of praise on them. What they forget that India too on several occasion fought back in to the game and either saved or even won the match. Against much stronger Australian side how Dravid and Laxman fought back and turned the tables on Australia in that memorable test match when despite following on India beat Australia in the test and ultimately won the series by trouncing them in the immediate next test match. Why we do not remember Indian\\\'s achievement or is it a fashion that we redicule ourselves and get satisfaction in praising foreignors? We are reminded of British days when a few Indians chose to lick their boot to ridicule thier own Country.

We do it once in a while (count them on fingers for last 1 decade) whereas Aussies falter once in a while.

No harm in knowing the strengths of others, as this may en route to you reach the same ladder.

I am equally as patriotic as anyone else but there should not be any false patriotism and we should not get carried away with our laurals, whcih can be counted on fingers.

cheers
