BCCI are blind. They bloodi bustard why want a foriegn coach when we have great coach like prasad & robin. They should declare them permanent coach.

Yaar 10 lakh dene hai toh mujhe coach bana do, i m also unemployed, I will change my total skin & will look like white men. Are gavaskar & Shastri listen to me seriously. Give employment to indian first.

why are you against having a foriegn coach, because they stay clear of local politics and go by merit? I dont know about Gary's credentials as a coach(as a batsman he was a fighter), we will see.

Any job post(including coach) should be filled in by the most competent person, irrespective of his color, cast, creed, why bring nationality first? If you see most developed Nations(including India's tech industry) are progressing because they follow the policy of merit not where the person comes from.

kirsten should not be appointed as coach
by biswa pal on Nov 28, 2007 09:54 PM

kirsten has talked all kind of rubbish in his 1996 tour diary about india.he does not respect india.for somebody to coach india he has to respect our culture, our people, our nation as a whole.kirsten simply does not have a very healthy opinion of india.also, his coaching credentials are not very good.he has never coached any team.the indian team has players who have played more cricket than him.he does not have anything to offer to the indian team.he is accepting this offer only for the money.

why do we need foreign coach
by ramamurthy sridhar on Nov 28, 2007 03:24 PM  | Hide replies

It is really surprise how the bcci will appoint again the foreign coach when we have our own people doing the job extremly well. We have bowling coach venkateshprasd and fielding coach robin singh. There is no need for any additional coach as of now.Bcci should ignore new coach immediately.

Away series is different from home series. Except T20-20, we never toured away from India in the last 8 months without a coach.

Away series is diffeitely different especially against Australia where there will be a lot of pressure on individual players even on the seniors. in this position, you need an anchor and a guide to tell the players wts going on arround.

Foreign Coach
by HariOm Chawla on Nov 28, 2007 02:35 PM  | Hide replies

We don't learn from our mistakes and BCCI is going to repeat it again. All the three sub-continent teams under foreign coaches failed to perform well at the World Cup; India and Pakistan could not reach even the second round. Without a coach, with Lal Chand Rajput as Manager, Indian team is performing well. Either Rajput should be given the charge of coach or some astute cricketer like Mohinder Amarnath, with sufficient coaching experience and ability should be given the resposibility. We do not need any high-figh celebrity player as a coach.

So wts the point here?

Coach or Captain doesnt hold a special tag. Captain is just another team player, but given responsibility to implement the strategies that were discussed in the team meetings with coach along with Senior players. In summary, Coach and Captain is just a facilitator and one of the 11 team members.

If team members don%u2019t take the responsibility and don%u2019t perform well, wt a Coach or Captain or a team lead can do?

What do you say?

Imagine in any industry, company or any institution, you have a team of engineers or a team of developers who have specific things to do. If individual players don%u2019t meet their target, how do you expect a captain or a team leader meet his target or meet his deadlines and complete the project in time?

Everybody right from CEO of the company to the Sweeper who is working in that company have their specific roles to play and if any of these players/members cant perform their role and job, captain can not perform the overall targets.

This is not a childish game or no player is a child to tell on each and every day, every morning wt you need to do.

Is Gary Kirsten a suitable coach for Team India?
by Fawzy Salam on Nov 28, 2007 01:25 PM

His started with a ""I'm sure I'll be able to handle it,"!!! Hardly the kind of vision that people who follow Indian Cricket is looking for. Everybody understands that what Team India needs is a strategist rather than a coach. Gary Kirsten hardly seems a strategist or visionary. Either the 'Coach Selection Committee' needs to be fired or the BCCI dismantled for failing to best effort in its biggest task, a coach/strategist for its prime team.

Captain...
by Kart on Nov 28, 2007 11:16 AM

The England series win I would give credit to the captain becoz there were many coaches inside the dressing room to confuse him.Starting from Vengsarkar,Niranjan shah and Chandu Borde followed by the bowling and fielding coach.I think coach is required as captain has to think about his performance too. It's really tough to manage 15 players on the field, outside the field, chalk strategies and then concentrate on personal game too. After all captain is a human being too.He cannot always look after players all the time.

Coach...

I saw most of the comments that Indian should be the coach. Can anybody name one Indian coach under whom we have won abroad, the answer is none.We started performing well and started winning abroad only when John Wright became the coach. After he left, we won few series and won a match in SA, which we couldn't do for past 14 years. What was the contribution of Indian coaches in winning outside India? Everybody are saying that Greg chappell was the worst coach but the truth is under him we won in WI and SA.

Greg's policy was correct, a player should be chosen based on his current form performance and not because he has scored tons and tons of runs in the past. India won the T20 world cup based on the younger blood who should now slowly be groomed to the longer formats of the game.

Of course his methods to implement his vision was flawed and he played a lot of politics using the media.
