No changes to batting order
by raj on Nov 28, 2007 08:54 AM

There should not be any changes to batting orderfor the sake of including Yuvi.If Yuvi needs to be in the side then either he should open or drop one senior and include him.Why Dravid/ Saurav should bat as openers? Dravid WON all these tests for India batting at number 3. Yuvi will become a dream cricketer even if he achieves 75%what Dravid done in test careers.
Saurav batted well for his 48.Saurav should be in the team for 48 runs but not for 3 wickets (Do not choose player for wrong reasons. He is a batsmen and must score runs). If Yuvi is better option to Saurav then Saurav need to be dropeed but no way Saurav should be opening. In case Yuvi needs to be in the side then its job of Yuvi to find a place. So he need to be moved to opening slot or he need to wait out side till one of these great cricketers fail.It doesn't matter if 48 is scored one side of pitch or both sides of wicket. Honestly I don't expect anything more from Yuvi than what Saurav did in last match . So I believe Yuvi need to wait for his turn. But its better if he is there for Ausis tour .

What did Munaf do? Hmm. I wonder? That is ok. Munaf should still play at Eden Garden. It would be a mistake if Munaf is dropped for the 2nd test.

Has Ganguly played inning which ensures him place against Aussies.
by sanjay on Nov 27, 2007 09:48 AM  | Hide replies

Ganguly against Shoaib Akhatar Not so bouncy pitch and no other quality pacer to assist Shoaib. He went through some testing job as what Prince of Kolkata will do on Australian soil on bouncy pitches and lee Tait like pacemen. Better protect him and send Yuvi Gambhir instead of him on Australia tour.

Ganguly was well protected by Tandulkar against pace bowling of Shaib Tanveer And Sami.
He Faced 23 balls of Shoaib and holed out in 23 rd ball.
Here it is how.

Ball no 35.1 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, 3 runs, Shoaib bangs it in short and angles the ball across the left-hander, Ganguly swats it from wide outside off stump through the vacant mid-on area, what a shot that is, he merely placed that with no power so the ball stops in the outfield Very very awkward stroke.

Ball no 39.1 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, FOUR, Ganguly moves towards a ball that angles across him and cuts it into the gap between gully and point, he controlled that well and played it into the ground to collect another four

Ball no 48.1 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, FOUR, Shoaib bangs it in short into Ganguly from round the wicket, Ganguly goes for the pull shot, he doesn't control it and plays it in the air but finds the gap at square leg

Ball no 48.5 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, no run, Shoaib bowls a bouncer over Ganguly's helmet, this time Ganguly decides against hooking and ducks, he left the bat sticking up like a periscope

Ball no 57.1 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, OUT, caught at fine leg, Ganguly

Good reply Shashi Dharan. How can one judge one's captaincy by one test win at home against a weak team?

Ganguly is the most successful test captain ahead of gavaskar, kapil, sachin etc... he was astute enough to know when kumble needs to play in the team.. Kumble is not a good ODI bowler,he can be smashed since he doesnt have the spin that is reqd for a spinner...

ganguly took the credit of hardwork done by kumble, laxman dravid sachin sewag srinath.he never shared credit of victory wheile kumble even dravid shared the credit of victory with other players.
Laxman kumble were out of odi team even after good performance bucz they were not good in books of ganguly
ganguly supported kachada bowlers like bajji nehra instead of kumble....

Footnote: SMG and Kapil never played against B'desh and Zim. Ganguly has something like 8 or 9 victories agt these two countries. Ganguly is an ordinary batsman, an okay on-field captain, good off-field captain (outside the boundary) and a great politician outside the ground.

please don't jump into conclusions. Srilanka was such a team when Kapil & Sunil were playing. On the whole how many tests we won.Today we have victory on every country on their own soil.Ganguly may not be good batsmen in tests but he is definitely good captain.Of course Dravid & Sachin played major partbut He need to get appreciation for what he is due.

Dinesh Kartik to be dropped for 3rd test if India win in Kolkata
by S Chandra on Nov 27, 2007 07:46 AM  | Hide replies

If India win in Kolkata, and Kartik doesnt perform well, he will be dropped for the 3rd test and Ganguly asked to open with Jaffer.

Yuvi will fill Ganguly's slot in the middle order.

Dravid was offered the role of opener if Kartik is dropped but he is not keen on it. Ganguly is open to the idea.

So if we win the series at Kolkata and if Kartik doesnt perform, we will see a change in the batting lineup for sure with Yuvi coming in in the middle order.

If dravid made to bat in different positions why not same rule apply to tendulkar ganguly dhoni etc
ask ganguly dhoni tneulakar to bat in five diff order in five matches against aussies then u see the differnece in performance and strike rate
it is gnaguly should be sacked from odi and test pathan should replaced in odis and yuvraj in tests

It was not a rule . It was a mistake. There is no need to do same mistake again and again. Dravid & Saurav should bat at their own opsitions if there are in the team

Dravid wont open to drop Kartik and bring in Yuvraj, Ganguly will
by S Chandra on Nov 27, 2007 03:07 AM

Newsflash for all the people who want Yuvi in the team (including me).

If India wins the Kolkata test, and Kartik fails again, there is a move being planned in the team to drop him for the 3rd test and open with Jaffer and Ganguly and make Yuvi play in the middle order.

Dravid was asked if he could open and he's not wanting to. It could be Ganguly who might be asked to open.

Im not supporting this, just reporting.

What this test match confirmed?
by Arv Singh on Nov 26, 2007 11:10 PM

Sachin tendulkar has a ot of Cricket left in him and he continues to play like a maestro. Saurav Gamguly worked hard to retain his place in the team, with ball and with bat. Laxman is a class player and should find permanent place in the team. Dinesh Karthick is a good fielder but he should be kept on the bench as back-up wicket keeper. Yuvraj Singh should be included in the team and so should Gautam Gambhir. Rotate Irfan Pathan, Zahir Khan, RP Singh, Sreesanth, and Parveen Kumar.

Drop Dravid..

Ganguly Sachin Laxman performed in the last two series against south africa and england....while dravid failed.

so if he doesnt perform in kolkota test we should drop DRAVID.

Experience counts a lot in tests
by India on Nov 26, 2007 05:20 PM  | Hide replies

Experience of Laxman and Ganguly helps them cement their places in tests. But Laxman did not try to score quick runs when he was running out of partners which a number 6 and 7 batsmen are supposed to do. Looks like Gautam Gambhir would be a better choice than Dinesh to open in tests. For some reason Dinesh seems to have lost his form completely.

Chance to Yuvaraj
by prasanna malagi on Nov 26, 2007 03:58 PM  | Hide replies

Laxman always has been the back bone of Indian test cricket. He has the ability to cope to the pressure, Has always performed well for the team india. I think it is not good to always talk on dropping Laxman to give chance to the younger players. Instead of this i suggest why dont we rest Sachin, Dravid,Laxman Or ganguly in rotations to give chance to the younger players like, yuvaraj, badrinath & so on in test cricket.
