If ravi shastri and Gavaskar can write columns even though part of BCCI panel, why Vengsarkar faces ban . This shows that BCCI has different rules for different persons ! what a shame !
Vengsarkar has a chat with BCCI president Sharad Pawar and would stop writing columns.the matter has been resolved . a typical BCCI way of resolving issues sans transparency. because this morning papers carry story about the Colonel having told the BCCI President of losing Rs 40.0 lacs annually not writing the column . a peanut ! well, colonel why not resign as Chief Selector and then write the same columns . let us see how many lacs you get for your columns then ?
Dropping dravid was a unaminous decision. How can you blame just Vengsarkar for that? Also I am pretty sure most think it was not a bad decision, given Dravids recent form in ODIs. (100 runs last 10 innings, no one including ganguly, sachin droped to this low ever) And may be Sachin, Ganguly would have been dropped..had Vengsarkar been at the helm them. Only he has the balls to do so...no one else.
How many here are really aware of the Vengsarkar's achievments as a batsmen?
If you have no clue about it just take it this way. He was arguably as good a batsman as Dravid in the current era. Both batted at number 3 and have pocketed wisden cricketer of the year awards and both sort of help(ed) hold the innings together. To his credit Vengsarkar perhaps faced more fierce bowling attacks, and played many match winning test innings (some single handedly). There has to be some reason why he commands such a tremendous respect from the cricketing fraternity(esp people who udnerstand cricket). Hey kids ...read soem stuff abt vengsarkar on crickinfo...wikipedia etc
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday announced that chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar has decided (forced) to stop writing (Bul* S*it) columns and the show cause notice served to him has been withheld (due to pressure from Sharad pawar and family).
This man should shut up and stop travelling. It is the duty of the coach and team manager to travel with the team. The selectors job is complete once the team selection is over. It would be appropriate for vengsarkar to just sit at home and watch Live telecast. He is wasting BCCI funds. Free travel, free stay, free food, Just stop it man!!!!!!!!!!!

He must be timid. He is getting paid for the job of a selcector and a substantial one at that. He was greedy and that was cut down. How can you select a team and comment on them too. You can't have the cake, the bakery, the baker and his wife too.

vengsarkar became selector for free travel, free stay at star hotel, free food and free... what not. If he is not paid then why should he take that role.

Jolly, wonder where you get your information from!!! The selectors in India are supposed to select the "national team" (actually only the BCCI team, as per their own submission to the Supreme Court) based on "pride" ... and not moolah. Their service is purely H-O-N-O-R-A-R-Y.
Considering the fact that Vengsarkar (and his fellow cricketers) would have been paid princely amounts of Rs 500~2000 for each Test they played, is it any wonder that he wants to write "columns" to earn his livelihood?
Commenting without adequate facts would be doing a great disservice, not only to Vengsarkar's case, but in all other posts. If facts are unknown, either one should try to find out, or not post and mislead others.

I am not sure whether you have been following news of late. Their jobs have been made paid ones about and it is to the extent of three fourths of Players fee. In any case, you cannot select a team and comment on it too...
He will stop writing under the name Vengsarkar. Hereafter he will write under some other name (say, venkat?). Both BCCI and Vengsarkar can be happy that way.
