From my point of view its a very good decision, when things dont work out, you should always opt out. I think Ganguly, Sachin and other senior players must have heard this NEWS.

You must be out of your mind Dravid or VVS making way for a youngster in test. big boys did in 2020 but hey cant imagine a test without them atleast sachin dravid and vvs have to be there

Looks like ganguly has played his last ODI against Pakistan (check out Patil's comment in cricketnext.com). He doesn't seem to fit in the present scheme of things as far as ODI is concerned. He along with Dravid will be ignored for the future ODI's even though Dravid has a chance of a look in on the Australia tour. With so many young openers in the side, it was only a matter of time for Ganguly to be booted out.
In 2007, following are the highest run scorers in one day:
Hayden: 1555- 29 matches Tendulkar: 1425 - 33 matches Yuvraj: 1287 - 36 matches (1 x 100s, 9 x 50s) Ganguly: 1240 - 30 matches (12 x 50s) Dravid: 823: 31 matches (8 x 50s, 3 x 0s) Gambhir: 634 - 21 matches (1 x 100s, 3 x 50s, 3 x 0s) Utthappa: 509 - 22 matches (3 x 50s and 12 x 0s).
Why should Gambhir or Utthappa be preferred in place on Ganguly....why?????????
Ganguly also is a very useful 5th bowler who enables India to take an additional batsman...he also bowled 76 overs in 2007 for 7 wckets and gave away 344 runs (liitle less than 4.5 runs per over!!!)
How many teams would dare to make him sit out??? Even at the age of 36 he delivers and contributes a lot.

coz if he(utthapa)get to play equal number of matches as Ganguly, and also as top order batsmen and not in end overs, then they will surely reach a 1000 mark effortlessly.

The contribution of Robin Uthappas runs in the win is better than that of sourav.

Well, Saurav Ganguly is a coward facing Shoaib Akhtar. His footwork just disappears, and bengali tiger becomes bengali moshai.

Fast bowlers think Saurav Ganguly is a sweet rasgulla to be had, free of cost. Uthappa has guts, can charge and hit Brett Lee and Akhtar. Very powerful cricketer is Uthappa. Pride of Karnataka.
Atapattu thanks for entertaining us..You were one of the most gracious cricketer, world cricket will ever have.......along with Mark Waugh....We the true lover of Cricket thank you........Good Bye and Have a wonderfull Life......
Great player...Scored over 14,000 international runs with 27 Hundreds after the terrible start he had early in his career. But was never in the lime light!! Even in the end didn't get the credit he rightly deserved. Back problems kept him out when he was at his peak captaining Sri Lanka.
Stylish, Elegant and graceful are the words to describe his batting...the style of batting which has now been taken over by hard-hitting!! He was the real "Unsung Hero" not only for the Sri Lankan team but also for all the cricket lovers around the world
And yes like SRK has said "picture abhi baki hai mere dost", we will be seeing him in the ICL. I am sure his experience will help new budding cricketers in India....

Attapattu is one of the sound player for Srilanka team. He is a great asset for them. He should not retire at this point of time. Even Jayasurya is at his peak. Srilanka team will be in big trouble with Attapatu's retirement :-(
