Under this guy we lost the world cup. Chappell insisted on a younger team but all the oldies went. Vengsarkar told that he does not select a team based on individual wishes. Next he used his editorial columns in conflict of interest to air his views on team strategy trying to deflect critisism on his failures to the team management. Bad Bad. Next he continued to use this same approach to chastise Dravid in public. What a shame. Then we lost 4-2 to Australia. Again nobody points to selector%u2019s accountability here. Dravid was made the Ginny pig. Then he does not call Dhoni to selectors meeting when they picked the team. Just a mere phone call after the selection will not do. Then he does not inform Dravid of the decision based on Ego that Dravid did not inform him. Bad again. Dravid cannot inform you dude. You can write again something in the editorial column to deflect or make personal gains out of the situation. Vengsarkar should be impeached and stripped of the selection panel. We should have a message board if we should have Vengsarkar on the panel. We only talk about the poor players.

dropping works
by K K on Nov 07, 2007 05:18 PM

It seems like dropping the players that don't perform works to motivate them and makes them better. Zaheer, Irfan, Ganguly have been dropped in the past and they now perform better. Now Dravid has been dropped from the ODI team and that seems to motivate him.

I think it is a great strategy to drop players that don't perform...no matter how good they are. It is a good strategy to motivate them and bring the best out of them.

I also think the seniors should be rested for a few games alternatively so that the young players get a chance. We need to prepare now for the future.

Dravid the Boss
by manohar miandad on Nov 07, 2007 04:19 PM

Dravid answered the Critics as well as his supporters by playing very well in both innings. Though in the first innings he got only 40 the way he played on the first day morning is really superb. Hats off to Dravid for his mental toughness and concentration.

Actually, quite the opposite! Dravid's performance proved that the selectors were right. Dravid was not performing well in the recent past and by dropping him the selectors have motivated him to perform better. The same thing happened with Zaheer and Ganguly. After they were dropped they performed better.

Dravid The Great!
by Sanjeev Verma on Nov 07, 2007 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

From Cricinfo:

"I told my boys, idhar udhar nahi hone ka, uski batting close se dekho, [focus on how he is batting] ... you are not going to get a better education in pacing an innings than this," Amol Muzumdar, the Mumbai captain, later told Cricinfo. "He didn't let anything affect him. The match situation, the humid weather, the bowling ... it was a treat to watch him bat."

It was a two-paced innings. On the third day Dravid chose safety, focusing on taking Karnataka, 142 runs in arrears, into a position of strength on a slow track, before changing gears on the fourth. He scored 77 runs off 178 balls on Monday; today, 137 runs were whipped off 152 balls as Dravid ensured his state side emerged with a creditable draw.

The dropping of Dravid was a blessing in disguise . He got a chance to prove to himself as well as the selectors that he have more cricket to come.

Vengsarkar a Selector or a cartoon?
by SJD on Nov 07, 2007 07:48 AM  | Hide replies

I'm really surprised to see a cartoon like vengsarkar become a Indian cricket teams selector. Look at the timing of Indian ODI cricket team against Australia was announced? The T20 torunament was still going on and vengsarkar annouced the team prior to indian T20 victory. Look at the Indian ODI team against Pakistan for first 2 ODI'S announced. Before Indian domentstic final the indian team was announced. On what basis he has selected a failed player like shewag? By announcing the team earlier Vengsarkar made a great great mistake. kartik who should have included in the team. On what basis he has knocked out Dravid from the team. If he thinks he is out of form then dravid should have included either india blue or india red to prove this. By all these actions he is proved that he is brainless person and unfit to select the Indian cricket Team. He is just a jocker and become a cartoon in India. The great people of India should come togther ask him to relinquish his post with immediate effect.

Well Said.Vengsarkar can get away with a murder too given the backing he has got from the mumbai dominated BCCI. This guy was banned in his captaincy days by the same BCCI and then in his hay days went to Australia(1992) when he was not even half fit than what Dravid is today. He should have been the one who should have infact supported a guy like Dravid. Vengsarkar stinks. What a egoistic loser.

THE BIG THREE
by on Nov 07, 2007 07:46 AM  | Hide replies

often media critisises the form of sachin, dravid and ganguly. though their form is inconsistent their class is consistent. these three are in this position only becaus they were very consistent for a long time and contributed a lot to indian cricket. not performing for a series does not mean their ability to play has come down.

You can not compare Dravid with Budda Sachin and Budda Ganguly. They can't even run between the wickets, forget about in the fielding. Selfish sachin and Ganguly just denying the chances for the deserved players like rohit sharma, karthik, praveen kumar. They should get retired immediately.
