Why look records
by Antoni D'souza on May 28, 2007 06:57 PM  | Hide replies

Unfortunately cricket has become game for the records.Somehow some fool comes up with some kind of record, - with that the charm of cricket has disappeared.

What is use of a record where the team ultimately loses!

Do you have certificates, and/or records of what you learn in school/university? Your marks, scores? Where is the connection of western here?

For everything we need to have records. Don't you think you keep records in your office and home?

Cheers,
Raj

Selectors really dont know what to do. Viru is perfect selection for test cricket, however he was droped from Test Series and taken for ODI where is not doing any best. Selectors really just enjoying with the money which they earn (both ways) from the crickets but dont bother to telecast match on TV.

Fastest Fifty
by Jomesh George on May 28, 2007 05:23 PM  | Hide replies

Balls taken to reach 50 from 0 is only considered for fastest fifty. But balls taken to reach 100 from 50 also should be taken. If so Adam Gilchrist who took only 17 balls between his fifty and hundred during the last ashes will be considered as the holder of the fastest fifty.

Your arguments seems logical. However if we extend that, it gets too tizzy - what about 1-51, 2-52, 3-53 etc?

that wont be a bad logic either . basic idea is to count numer of balls to get 50. sometimes during commentry of 2nd innings, they usually tell how much bals the chasing team took to make 50.

RE:Fastest Fifty
by Mrinal Bhadra on May 29, 2007 12:10 PM
actually the first 50 is considered because of the fact that the batsman is new at the crease and it is always difficult to score when one is new at the crease.once you got past the 50 runs mark you are well conversent with the pitch behaviour as well as bowlers line and length.again 50 in the bag gives confidence. It is like "why it is not added as 2/3 hundreds in the no of hundreds record book by any individual batsman when he scores 200/300 runs in an inning.
cheers.

It HAPPENS only against INDIA
by on May 28, 2007 02:45 PM

Look at the history, Indian team has always provided a lots of records to world cricket. All the great records are always made against indian team. Indian cricket team is having the honour to provided great platform to all the cricketars, who are not able to perform against rest of the teams.

It will be a better point of view if I put it this way that Aussies are far better than the rest because they improved their game.

Sachin is definitely the top. You guys are crazy and jealous. these comments - even when he has consective centuries - after 17 years of cricket? Most others, including great australians, who came much after him with lot more promise are history today. He is real living legend

Consecutive centuries against Bangladesh hardly count - its like scoring consecutive 20s against Aussies. "Promising" Aussies who came after him may not have been so great may not have scored successive centuries but they have definitely been a part of the team who created history. Unlike cuddling with their personal records like some, they rewrote the game history record books. In my opinion, Sachin is a legend but now he is past his "legendary" days.

Stop this nonsense
by Pushkar Purohit on May 28, 2007 02:28 PM  | Hide replies

Can rediff stop screwing around like this ...
What's the point in measureing time when we have balls faced as a criteria? Using time is illogical. See Kallis's fastest fifty - its not there in fastest fifties if we consider time. Time depends upon the duration wasted by the opposition time in making field changes, bowling changes, so on. WHat if we have a drinks break, lunch break, tea time in between. In such cases more time is wasted in setting the field even if the batsman is at crease.
So please stop with this nonsensical statistics !!
