He was neither here nor there

Pathan was an instant hit when he sent Gilchrist and Wagh back to pavilion during his first series against Australia.

But his fall was more due to his lack of interest in taking his game to next level instead wanted to thrive on past glories like his predecessors/seniors in the team.

He wanted to take his bowling light so that he could play as many One dayers and test matches as possible!

But you cant have cake and eat it too! What Kapil Dev did in his past 5 years, was started by Pathen in the second year of his career!

So much of distraction due to commercial success as well. Even if he returns (with the help of seniors and his commercial contracts) back I really doubt whether he would be a force to reckon with. He just did not prove himself beyond few matches.

srinath gives too much importance to what he feels
by h r on May 26, 2007 05:41 PM

Srinath...stop saying such negative things for the youngster. Pathan is capable of coming back, his bowling has gone down after injuries. With a fit pathan, a great allrounder isn't a dream for Ind team. One thing to be noted, most allrounders (flintoff, razzak, kallis) could not continue their allround form for long. Pathan should take some clues from this fact n concentrate on bowling and leave batting for a while

Its a shame that a good talent like Pathan has to die due to politics in cricket and protecting the powerful members of the team, the way he has disappeared in all this mess since last 1 to 2 years is a great loss to indian cricket.he is one of the best allrounders around .Give him a few more chances and then decide on his form.

India deserve to come out of World Cup - for the cheap politics by the Big Fat Selectors and Board Members. If things goes like this India very soon will become a dumb team.

Talent gone down the drain....
by adfasd asdasd on May 26, 2007 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

Do you have the stats for Kallis and Symonds in their first 3 years in international cricket...?

They were far worse than Irfan Pathan, but they were nurtured by their respective countrymen and cricket boards....

They were not worshipped as heroes when they hit a single hundred or took 5 wickets, neither were they buried in a grave when they failed in a series. I can stick my neck out and say this that "If Irfan Pathan would have been in Australia or South AFrica he would have been a force to reckon with in world cricket today!!!!"

Talent wise he is better than Kallis, Pollock or Symonds.

India basically does not value humans.....be they in any field. All that we indians value are only ourself and our emotions towards others. We never take an apolitical stand on anything.

Dont get too emotional! He wanted to play all forms of cricket with minimum effort on bowling which what the real problem is!

He wanted to continue in the team more as a batsman than as a bowler. He could not generate pace nor take early wickets which he was famous for.

Probably, he got distracted towards money and young girls like Yuvraj!

I fully agree with you..dear .
What U have said is absolutely true . It is due to dirty tricks of BCCI(& Chappel ) that he was not played in world cup

Insallah he would be back again> All my good wishes are with him

When a failed captain and player like Dravid (who failed in ...

Malaysia cup,

Champions trophy ,

failed in WI (ODI),

South Africa

and was pathetic in world cup both as Captain & batsman has retained his place as Captain.
How come such great injustice with Patan..

Too bad & shame with Indian cricket.
