India's problem has always been batting in ODI and bowling in tests
by Hiren Bhavsar on May 23, 2007 09:20 PM  | Hide replies

Guys
look at the history of indian cricket..we have always had probs with batting in ODI's..even when Azhar was captain or when Ganguly was captain..all ODIs are won and lost by batsmen in most cases for india...
its reverse in tests...no matter how good sachin, laxman, dravid, ganguly,, even sehwag played..
we hv always relied on a Kumble/Harbhajan to take abt 15 wkts or more out of 20 or a one inning wonder (like Agarkar's 6 in Australia) to win test matches...
Since Srinath retired we havent found a good enough bowler to take his place..Zaheer Khan has been made a superstar by the media where he has never performed in tests..
We need genuine fast bowlers...at least 2 who can strike in the beginning and wrap up the tail...srinath also wasnt perfect against tailendars but at least he was a good at starts , a work horse and genuinely working hard..never acted like a star..
we need ppl like him n kumble and not like yuvraj's and zaheer's..

parthiv's shoddy wicket keeping cost us a rare test series victory in australia. had he not dropped gilchrist who scored more than a hundered and saved the aussies of the blushes -we'd have been walking away with a test series victory.

oh come on.. r u kidding me dude?
Parthiv is the worst wkt keeper i can remember in 20 yrs i hv followed cricket...he couldnt catch a ball...and good batsman?
How many back to back fifties did he score?
Look at Kartick's last test in SA then this one..and he has proved himself as a pure batsmen and is playing as opener..Parthiv only played for India bcoz he was ganguly's favorite and kept hoping he wud get better which never happened...
u hv writtne ball n bat in the end dude...he cant bowl..and he cant field also...lik kartick can when played as a batsman..

Parthiv is half wicket keeper and half batsman, he is not a specialist neither with bat nor with gloves

Why u people dont want to try new youngesters?

Friends , i don't know why we all are pulling legs of Indian Poor Players. check out bang innings, Mashraf Mortaza who made brilliant 79 of only 92 balls and don't forget the outstanding stand o S Hossain. Both of them have saved the expected followon ( from 148-8, they have given a great shape to bang inn ) . We should be proud of our significiant balling attack who failed to take 2 tailender wickets. Good performance.. isn't it ?

Whom are we blaming ? Sachin, Saurav, Dravid... ohh come on... whole team is in bad shape, complete mess. Remember, its complete team who is responsible to play , not a single player. When tailenders can bat in a team like bang against Indian Attack and we cannot break the bones of tailenders, what we are expecting from our players, i don't know. why we are blaming only our batsman.. Assume,if all top order batsman score 100 and we make score like 700, even though it is waste if we cannot take 20 wickets. Top Teams like Australia or SA, they are not because of only good batting line up, BUT they are equally strong in their excellent balling Attack as well as great Fielding efforts.

We Indians always live in dreams like one of the hero like sachin or saurav or dravid or sehwag will alone fight with his all skills and will gift us Victory, like an Indian Hindi Movie, hero will come in the last and will take heroien with him... Damnnnn...

exactly
couldnt agree more..Instead of blaming senior players people should see who of all people performed in the match..Sachin, Sourav with bat..nobody with the ball in absensce of senior and reliable Kumble..
I guess Harbhajan would have been useful against bangladesh on those slow pitches...however i think india should play him in tests more and less in ODI's as his ODI performance is the worry in last year or so..not form in test..remember his 5-5 wkts in the win in WI in last test last yr?

you are absolutely right!...our bowling sans kumble was totally frustating!...we cudn't take those 2 wickets in their first innings and that cost us the match (i mean the win!)...

some experts (???) on TIMES NOW were blaming karthik (22 off 43 balls) n sachin (31 off 50 balls) for their slow pace in the second innings!...when we were 2 wickets down was it wise to go after the bangladesh bowling attack?...

we need to be more victory focussed than hero focussed. thats our weak point. we take positives out of a lost match - like " at least sachin and ganguly scored a century". until that happens we wont be aggressive enough. and precisely that is perfect for the admen - they want thier heroes scoring all the time - nevermind the team.

Best player need not be a good Captain - Dravid proved it
by anindita banerjee on May 23, 2007 02:01 PM  | Hide replies

In our subcontinent, we mix up between a good player and a good leader. A good player need not essentially be a good leader and may perform miserably both as a player and a captain. This is perhaps what is happening with Rahul Dravid.

We are hell bent upon entrusting the captainship to the best playing personnel at a particular given time. In the process a player not having traits of a good leader suceembs to the pressure of captainship as well a good player.

For God sake kindly evolve a system to acknowledge a leader in a team rather than best player being the leader.

sachin also proved it. only ganguly was good towards the begining of his career as a captain. towards the end he did bad too.

GLORY TO BANGLA
by kkeevviinn on May 23, 2007 12:33 PM  | Hide replies

This is as good as winning for Bangla. Look at the plus points.
1. Mortaza man of the match - India has all the stars in the team and two 100s from super stars. But a Bangla become man of the match.
2.Avoiding follow on after being 148 for 8. A strong tail.
3. Beating India in the Secon innings. 2nd innings India scored 100 for 6 and Bangla beat them in the second innings.

SO INDIA CAN SETTLE FOR LOOSE IN THIS TEST MATCH.

LOOSE????? the only thing that is loose is the screw in your head... look at the situation in which the scores occured. Bangla were dismissed in the first innings for a paltry score on a belter of a wkt. Are you watching cricket for the first time??? What do you mean by second innings victory?? Mortaza saved the game for Bangladesh, there could have been only 2 winners: the weather or India - eventually, the former beat the latter..not another team. pls check all results to find how many games have been won in 2 and half days. Some people just know how to crib and complain about everything.. ppl like you can never be happy and will probably end up as suicidal wife beaters just cus nothing can satisfy you

naah. need not read too much into the match. bagla knew they had time on thier side. we dint have time. at least we tried to make a match out of it. bangla had nothing to lose, if they had tried - theyd have given a serious scare - it was like a one day situation. they guys are chickens (i dont blame them - a draw is better than trying to win and end up losing)

Why blame Batsman
by Bhalchandra Vartak on May 23, 2007 12:16 PM  | Hide replies

Everyone here is upset as India had lost more wickets then Bangladesh... 100/6 in second innings.
In second innings we were pushing for a win ..field was defensive everyone on boundary line..wat do you people expect?
Mind you Bangladesh is a good bowling side.Mortaza is a better fast bowler then Zaheer and company..they had Rafique too..
I was surprised by Dravid's decision to go for a win..with Kumble out we were half the bowling side....VRV Singh could not take wickets in SA on bowler friendly pitches why was he in the team?Powar was making debut was Dravid expecting a match winning performance from him on this debut or from R.P Singh who.. I dont kno how many test matches he has played.
Please understand Test matches are won by bowlers.....I am eager to see Australia without Warne and McGrath.
even if India had scroed 500 does anyone here think Powar,RP and VRV along with Zaheer could have taken 20 Bang wickets?

Bal.. Australia is having more firing young guns than Mc Grath. they are professionals, They used the experience of Mc and shane, just after WC, hey will give chance to their Young ones and will shape them in another Mc Grath or Shane and will prepare them for next WC. They are not fools like us who will try their those players who cannot run till next WC...

Every cricketer of the test playing nation is a professional as aussies. Dont over estimate aussies and under estimate others. Its only mental strength that makes the difference. If u see the match bet. Eng and Au in WC, just recall the moments, how ur so called highly professional aussie captain reacted to KP when KP hit Mc Grath for more than 30 runs in his 1st three overs. Only thing the cricketers need to do is to belive in them selves.
