Laxman's omission
by on May 18, 2007 11:03 AM  | Hide replies

It is very sad that Laxman is dropped for this match.By competence and recent record he is better than anyother player who made to this team.Obviously when India plays smaller teams,Laxman is not needed, any player who is worth his salt will make runs and the so called star players will slaughter them. But when we play teams like australia in thier own back-yard,we need him and we give him a chance and he delivers also.
If we make runs at the pace lets say dravid makes..we wont win matches,Remember the good old days when people used to make runs at their own pace inspite of being aware of the fact that they are slowing down the match.Thats what happens when we dont have players like Laxman.

The point i want to make here is that Indian Cricket has not changed a bit all thru these years. We wont give players their due who have played well in tough conditions against tougher oppositions. we are happy winning against mediocre teams with mediocre players.Good players are used and then shown the door.

most stupid selection
by srinivas on May 18, 2007 10:53 AM

How was suddenly Ganguly included in the final team ahead of Laxman?? Laxman is far better than karthik and ganguly... dropping laxman is nothing but double standards by selectors and team management.

Dravid should be dropped... he is useless.... if tendulkar is old Dravid is older.... why is he in...what did he do in SA what did he do in WC what was remarkable in Bangladesh ODI..... he played 10 slog overs and could connect only 1 boundary....he is misfit.....Useless as a player forget captain....

Hi Hitesh,

For your better understanding Dravid is the leading average holder and Match winner in test. Could you recall how many matches he won for India single handedly. For eg: Final test in West Indies last year. Both tendulkar and Dravid including Sourav are backbone of Indian cricket. How can you a man useless as he scored nearly 20,000 runs in international cricket. I am not a big fan of Dravid but what you have stated here could have been in good manner.

Laxman must be in!!
by bharat on May 18, 2007 07:16 AM  | Hide replies

VVS Laxman has been one of our most successful batsmen in the test matches in the recent times. It would be a shame if either of Tendulkar or Ganguly find a place in the team at the expense of Laxman! In fact, Laxman should be an automatic choice for the test matches. The question of whether or not he should be in the team should not arise!

Since you have raised the issue of performance in the SA series, Ganguly's performance was fair but certainly not extraordinary (2 fifties in the series) for a top order batsmen even if you argue that SA bowling was good. Yes, it was good but nothing to jump about!

2. If you compare their overall record against good quality bowling attack (say against Australia), Laxman is far far better than Ganguly!

2. Laxman's performance

Did u see the second match second innings. Did u notice how many lives he got?. It was most embarassing to see him struggling to connect ball and almost all the boundaries he scored were thick edges
